The Mountain West Conference (MW) is one of the collegiate athletic conferences affiliated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). The MW officially began operations on January 4, 1999. Geographically, the MW covers a broad expanse of the Western United States, with member schools located in California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming. Craig Thompson has served as Commissioner of the MW since October 15, 1998.
Falcon Stadium is an outdoor football stadium in the western United States, on the campus of the U.S. Air Force Academy near Colorado Springs, Colorado. It is the home field of the Air Force Falcons of the Mountain West Conference, and also holds the academy's graduation ceremonies each spring.

Navy is also one of approximately 300 members of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC).

The program was created in 1967. Air Force plays its home games at Falcon Stadium, which has a capacity of 46,692. The Falcons will play their first season in the ASUN Conference in spring 2022 after having played the previous six seasons in the Southern Conference, with previous conference membership in the Great Western Lacrosse League and the ECAC Lacrosse League. Through 2019, the team has an all–time record of 403–298.
