The Cal State Northridge Matadors baseball team represents California State University, Northridge in the sport of baseball. The team competes in NCAA Division I in the Big West Conference. They are currently led by head coach Eddie Cornejo, who coached his first season in 2023.

History

The program was established in 1959, and competed at the Division II level until 1990. The Matadors were associate members of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) from 1993 through 1996, and joined the Big West in 2002 after five seasons as an independent.

While in Division II, Cal State Northridge claimed a pair of national championships (1970, 1974), two runner-ups (1972, 1990), and several other College World Series appearances. At the Division I level, the Matadors have appeared in five NCAA Tournaments. [2]

The Chico State Wildcats are the athletic teams that represent California State University, Chico, located in Chico, California, in NCAA Division II intercollegiate sports. The Wildcats compete as an associate member of the California Collegiate Athletic Association for all 13 varsity sports. Since 1998, Chico State’s athletic teams have won 99 NCAA Championship berths, 40 CCAA titles, 24 West Region titles and 15 National titles. The school finished third in the 2004–2005 NACDA Director's Cup.

The American West Conference (AWC) was a college athletic conference in the United States from 1993 to 1996. It consisted of schools in California and Utah. The charter members of the conference were California Polytechnic State University; California State University, Northridge; California State University, Sacramento; the University of California, Davis; and Southern Utah University.

Bill Kernen American baseball coach

William Craig Kernen is an American baseball coach and playwright. He was the head coach at Cal State Northridge from 1989 to 1995 and at Cal State Bakersfield from 2009 to 2015. Other coaching positions as an assistant included North Carolina State (2001–02), Cal State Fullerton, University of Illinois (1988) and Sacramento State (2019).

Long Beach State Beach

The Long Beach State Beach, previously known as the 49ers, are the athletic teams that represent California State University, Long Beach. Teams compete in 19 sports at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I level. Long Beach State is a founding member of the Big West Conference, and also competes in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and the Golden Coast Conference for sports not sponsored by the Big West.

Cal State Northridge Matadors Intercollegiate sports program

The Cal State Northridge Matadors are the athletic teams that represent California State University, Northridge in Northridge, Los Angeles, California. The Matadors field 17 teams in nineteen sports. The Matadors compete in NCAA Division I and are members of the Big West Conference. CSUN has been a member of the Big West Conference since the summer of 2001 for most sports. The men's and women's indoor track and field teams compete in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation instead. Men's volleyball also competed in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, but began to compete in the Big West beginning in 2018.

The Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners are the intercollegiate athletic teams representing the California State University, Bakersfield, located in Bakersfield, California. The Roadrunners compete at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I level as a member of the Big West Conference.

The Cal State Northridge Matadors football team represented California State University, Northridge in the sport of American football from the 1962 through 2001 seasons. Between 1962 through 1992, Cal State Northridge competed at the NCAA Division II level prior to moving to Division I-AA in 1993. The Matadors played their home games at multiple stadiums throughout their history with the most recent being North Campus Stadium in Northridge, California.

UC Riverside Highlanders baseball

The UC Riverside baseball team is the varsity intercollegiate baseball team of the University of California, Riverside, located in Riverside, California, United States. The program has been a member of the NCAA Division I Big West Conference since the start of the 2002 season. The program's home venue is the Riverside Sports Complex, located on the university's campus. Justin Johnson serves as the team's interim head coach starting with the 2021 season. The program has won two Division II national championships. It has appeared in four Division II College World Series and 12 NCAA Tournaments. It has won eight California Collegiate Athletic Association championships and one Big West Conference championship. As of the start of the 2013 Major League Baseball season, 16 former Highlanders have appeared in Major League Baseball.

Cal State Los Angeles Golden Eagles

The Cal State Los Angeles Golden Eagles are the athletic teams that represent California State University, Los Angeles in NCAA Division II intercollegiate sports. The Golden Eagles compete as members of the California Collegiate Athletic Association for all 10 varsity sports. Cal State LA previously competed in Division I and was a founding member of the Pacific Coast Athletic Association in 1969. It left the conference in 1974, but not before winning the conference's basketball title and becoming the last team no longer in Division I to participate in the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament.

The 1990 Cal State Northridge Matadors football team represented California State University, Northridge as a member of the Western Football Conference (WFC) during the 1990 NCAA Division II football season. Led by fifth-year head coach Bob Burt, Cal State Northridge compiled an overall record of 7–4 with a mark of 4–1 in conference play, sharing the WFC title Cal Poly. The Matadors advanced to the NCAA Division II Football Championship playoffs for the first time in program history, losing in the first round to Cal Poly in a rematch of the WFC co-champions. The team was outscored by its opponents 179 to 173 for the season. The Matadors played home games at North Campus Stadium in Northridge, California.

The 1992 Cal State Northridge Matadors football team represented California State University, Northridge as a member of the Western Football Conference (WFC) during the 1992 NCAA Division II football season. Led by seventh-year head coach Bob Burt, Cal State Northridge compiled an overall record of 5–5 with a mark of 3–2 in conference play, tying for second place in the WFC. The team was outscored by its opponents 224 to 161 for the season. The Matadors played home games at North Campus Stadium in Northridge, California.

The 1993 Cal State Northridge Matadors football team represented California State University, Northridge as a member of the American West Conference (AWC) during the 1993 NCAA Division I-AA football season. This was the first season that the Matadors competed at the NCAA Division I-AA level, as they had previously been at the NCAA Division II level. Led by eighth-year head coach Bob Burt, Cal State Northridge compiled an overall record of 4–6 with a mark of 1–3 in conference play, tying for fourth place in the AWC. The team outscored its opponents 229 to 222 for the season. The Matadors played home games at North Campus Stadium in Northridge, California.

The 2017 Big West Conference Women's Soccer Tournament was the postseason women's soccer tournament for the Big West Conference held on November 2 and 5, 2017. The three-match tournament took place at Matador Soccer Field in Northridge, California. The four-team single-elimination tournament consisted of two rounds based on seeding from regular season conference play. The defending champions were the Long Beach State 49ers, but they failed to qualify for the 2017 tournament. The Cal State Fullerton Titans won the title by virtue of winning the penalty shoot-out tiebreaking procedure following a tie with the Cal State Northridge Matadors in the final. This was the seventh Big West tournament title for the Cal State Fullerton program and the fifth for head coach Demian Brown.
