Hundreds of beauty pageants are conducted yearly, but the Big Four are considered the most prestigious, [1] widely covered and broadcast by media. [2] The Wall Street Journal, [3] BBC News, [4] CNN, [5] Xinhua News Agency, [6] and global news agencies such as Reuters [7] and Agence France-Presse [8] [9] collectively refer to the four major pageants as "Big Four" namely: Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss International, and Miss Earth.
