Parapan American Games appearances (overview)

Canada is scheduled to compete in the 2023 Parapan American Games in Santiago, Chile from 17 November to 26 November 2023. The country was represented by 136 competitors in 13 sports at the 2023 games. [1] [2]

Contents

Wheelchair tennis player Rob Shaw and paralympic cyclist Shelley Gautier were the country's flagbearers during the opening ceremony. [1]

Athletics

Canada competed at the 2018 Winter Paralympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, from 9 to 18 March 2018. Canada sent a team of 55 athletes to compete in all six sports. The chef de mission was retired sledge hockey player Todd Nicholson, appointed in January 2017.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Shelley Gautier</span> Canadian Paralympic cyclist

Shelley Gautier is a Canadian multi-medalist in para-cycling. At the UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships from 2010 to 2022, Gautier has won 16 golds as part of her 19 medals. At the Parapan American Games, Gautier won a silver at the mixed road time trial event held at the 2011 Parapan American Games and 2015 Parapan American Games. As a Paralympic competitor, Gautier won a bronze at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in the women's time trial event. Apart from para-cycling, Gautier competed in disabled sailing. Gautier was inducted into the Niagara Falls Sports Wall of Fame in 2003 and nominated for the Laureus World Sports Award for Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability in 2015.

Ness Ashby Murby is a Canadian Paralympian (PLY) who competes in Para-Athletics discus throw and javelin throw.

Robert Shaw is a Canadian wheelchair tennis player who competes in international level events, he plays in the quads' division. He is a Parapan American Games champion in the quads' singles at the 2019 Parapan American Games in Lima. He was partially paralysed from the neck down after a freak diving accident aged 21.

Mel Pemble is a Canadian para alpine skier, and para cyclist. She won gold medals in omnium C3 and scratch race C3 at the 2022 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships. She won two medals in para-cycling at the 2023 Parapan American Games.
