Carley Stenson (born 22 September 1982) is an English actress and singer. She is known for her roles as Steph Cunningham in the Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks and Harriet Shelton in the BBC soap opera Doctors . For her role as Steph, she received numerous nominations at the British Soap Awards.

Stenson left Hollyoaks in 2010 to focus on musical theatre acting and has since played roles such as Elle Woods in Legally Blonde: The Musical and Fantine in Les Misérables . In 2023, she competed in the fifteenth series of Dancing on Ice .

Early and personal life

Stenson was born on 22 September 1982 in Billinge Higher End, Wigan. [1] [2] As a child, she competed in talent competitions hosted by the St Helens Star . [3] Whilst starring in Legally Blonde: The Musical , she met actor Danny Mac. The pair began dating in 2011, and got married in 2017. [4] In March 2021, the pair announced that they were expecting their first child together. [5] She gave birth to a daughter in June 2021. [6] The pair welcomed their 2nd child in April 2024.

Career

Stenson auditioned for the Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks, for the role of a friend of the character Zara Morgan (Kelly Greenwood). [7] The audition was successful, but the casting team told her to audition for the role of Steph Cunningham instead, which she received. [8] Stenson joined the cast after leaving secondary school, aged 17. [9] In 2010, she announced that she would be leaving to pursue musical theatre. [10] She recorded versions of "If I Could Turn Back Time" and "About You Now", both of which were featured in separate episodes of Hollyoaks to coincide with the death of her character. [11]

Stenson's theatre work has included London West End theatre appearances as Princess Fiona in Shrek: The Musical ; Elle Woods in Legally Blonde: The Musical; and as The Lady of The Lake in Spamalot . [12] In 2015, she independently released a self-titled extended play. [13] Stenson then played Christine Colgate in the 2015 to 2016 UK tour of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels , [14] as well as Fantine in Les Misérables . [15] In April 2021, she joined the cast of the BBC soap opera Doctors as Harriet Shelton. [16] [17] She appeared until September 2021. [18] In 2022, it was announced that Stenson would be competing in the fifteenth series of Dancing on Ice . [19] Partnered with Mark Hanretty, the pair finished in sixth place. [20]

Ben Richards is a British stage and television actor and dancer. Richards studied dance from an early age and later took part in theatre. He gained supporting roles in London's West End and gradually filled the role of the lead. After small roles in two films, Richards began his television career with guest roles in various British serials. In 2004, he joined the regular cast of the ITV drama Footballers' Wives and after the series ended he resumed theatre work. Richards went on to secure roles in Holby City and The Bill. While working on the latter, Richards said that he would always pursue his career in theatre. After leaving the series he returned to theatre work. In 2015, he joined the cast of the soap opera Hollyoaks and finished filming the following year. He then returned to stage roles in the West End.

Gilly Roach is a fictional character from the British Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks, played by Anthony Quinlan. The character first appeared on-screen during the episode broadcast on 6 October 2005. Gilly was created in 2005 by executive producer David Hanson. Gilly has often been portrayed as a push-over and has a double act partnership with fellow character Rhys Ashworth. His main character traits have been his "nice attitude", with Quinlan branding Gilly in his first five years as a "push-over". Lee Hunter is a fictional character from the English soap opera Hollyoaks, played by Alex Carter. The character made his first on-screen appearance on 4 July 2001. Lee was introduced as part of the show's new family, the Hunters. He is the youngest son of Les and Sally Hunter. Lee is characterised as "wayward", a "cheeky chap" and a "wheeler dealer". Niall Rafferty is a fictional character from the British Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks, played by Barry Sloane. He first appeared during an episode broadcast on 3 December 2007. Former Brookside actor Sloane was cast as the "mysterious" hairdresser Niall and was introduced by the series' producer Bryan Kirkwood. During Sloane's portrayal of Niall on-screen, he was central to a storyline involving the already-established McQueen family and it was revealed Niall was the illegitimate son of Myra McQueen. The storyline featured Niall seek revenge on the McQueens, which concluded in highly advertised episodes featuring Niall kidnapping his siblings and causing the death of his half-sister Tina Reilly. Niall was portrayed by upcoming actor Devon Jackson, the older brother of Hollyoaks actor Kieron Richardson, in flashback scenes depicting Niall's childhood.

Rob Hollins is a fictional character from the BBC soap opera Doctors, portrayed by Chris Walker. Rob was introduced as a police sergeant at Letherbridge police station and made his first appearance during the episode broadcast on 24 July 2009. Rob is the husband of Karen Hollins, a receptionist at the fictional Mill Health Centre, as well as the father of Imogen and Jack Hollins. Prior to joining the soap, Stoddart appeared in numerous theatre productions, including Legally Blonde, Mack and Mabel, Follies and Songs for a New World.
