Carolene Mays is the executive director of the White River State Park (WRSP) Development Commission. She was appointed by Governor Eric Holcomb having first been appointed in 2016 by Governor Mike Pence (later vice president). She is also co-host of Community Link on WISH-TV.
In 2010,Mays was appointed by Governor Mitch Daniels as a commissioner for the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) which regulates the utility industry. She was reappointed and named vice-chair in 2014 by Governor Mike Pence.
While at the IURC,she served on the board of directors for the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC);as president of Mid-America Regulatory Conference;and as chairperson of the Critical Infrastructure Committee. She also served on the Water and Washington Action Committees. She was named a 2013 Smart Grid Today Top 50 Smart Grid Pioneer for her leadership in cyber and physical security.
Mays was a finalist for an appointment by President Barack Obama as the Midwest Regional Director of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). She withdrew from consideration upon receiving the IURC appointment;later finding out she had been selected by the president.
Prior,she was president of the Indianapolis Recorder newspaper and Indiana Minority Business Magazine . Under her leadership,the Recorder emerged as one of nation's largest,most award winning newspapers in the National Newspaper Publishers Association. She purchased Indiana Minority Business Magazine and it became profitable under her management in the first year of ownership.
Mays was the producer and co-host of "Recorder On Air Report Television Show" on a cable network,and co-host of a television news segment,"Community Link",on Central Indiana's CBS affiliate. She left the position in 2008,but in 2018,she again began hosting Community Link,on WISH-TV.
Previously,at Mays Chemical Co. she was Manager of Marketing,Customer Service and National Accounts. She began her career at Occidental Chemical Co.,Inc. where she held positions in sales and corporate account management,throughout the U.S.
Mays was elected to the Indiana Legislature in 2002;serving as State Representative for three terms. Nationally she served on the National Black Caucus of State Legislators,National Conference of State Legislators,and Women in Government. Mays had to retire from the State Legislature,November 2008 after making an unsuccessful bid for Congress.
Mays is a proud servant leader and is active in the community,currently serving on the Boards of:One America Financial Services,Heartland Church of Indianapolis,Cyber Leadership Alliance,Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Citizens Academy,St. Vincent Hospital Foundation,IU Lilly School of Philanthropy Mays Institute as Vice-Chair,National Institute of Fitness and Sport,2021 NBA All-Star Basketball Game,Leadership Indianapolis Stanley K. Lacy Executive Leadership Series,and 2022 College Football Playoffs,where she will also co-chair the event execution and game operations. She is a Lifetime board member of the Indiana Sports Corporation. She is also the President of the Indianapolis Chapter of the Links,Inc.
One of her recent business and community accomplishments was to moderate the 2017-2018 Stanley K. Lacy Executive Leadership Series,developing future leaders. She is the first and only African-American female leader to hold this position in its 43 year history.
Highlights of some previous boards include:Julian Center for Domestic Violence,Indianapolis Neighborhood Housing Partnership,Capitol Improvement Board,University of Indianapolis,and Peyton Manning's Peyback Foundation. Among her many past volunteer roles,she was Chairperson of three NCAA Women's Final Fours - in 2016,2011 and 2005. She was the 2012 NFL Super Bowl Indianapolis Division Chairperson of Administration which included Office Operations and Human Resources,where she led the hiring of all personnel for the Super Bowl.
Among her many awards,Mays recently was named by the Center for Leadership Development as the Madam CJ Walker Outstanding Woman of the Year. She received a 2017 Community Leader and Servant Award from Martin University and the 2017 Girl Scouts Award of Courage. She was also honored with a Sagamore of the Wabash by former Governor Mike Pence.
She has been featured in Indianapolis Monthly magazine as one of "Indy's Most Powerful" and twice honored by the Indianapolis Business Journal as one of "Indiana's Most Influential Women",including in 2019. Her accomplishments were highlighted twice as the feature cover story of the Indianapolis Woman Magazine ,as well as in Indiana Minority Business Magazine. She is honored in Ben Davis High School's Hall of Fame and as an Indiana State University Distinguished Alumni.
On the political front,Mays received many legislator of the year awards and was listed by Roll Call ,a Washington D.C. publication,as a Rising Star in Indiana Politics. In bipartisan fashion,she is a Democrat,who has been appointed by three Republican governors.
Mays has a B.S. in business management from Indiana State University and is a currently a candidate for a Master of Jurisprudence from Indiana University McKinney School of Law. She is a 2017 graduate of the FBI Citizen's Academy. She is an active member and overseer of Heartland Church,Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority,Indianapolis chapter of The Links,and Northeasterners. She is married to Fred Medley and has a daughter,Jada and three step-sons,Frederick II,Niles and Chase.
Michael Richard Pence is an American politician who served as the 48th vice president of the United States from 2017 to 2021 under Donald Trump. A member of the Republican Party,he previously served as the 50th governor of Indiana from 2013 to 2017,and a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 2001 to 2013.
Suzanne Crouch is an American politician who has served as the 52nd lieutenant governor of Indiana since 2017. She previously served as the 56th state auditor of Indiana from 2014 to 2017. She is running for governor of Indiana in 2024.
Rebecca S. Skillman is an American politician who served as the 49th Lieutenant Governor of Indiana,from 2005 to 2013. She is a member of the Republican Party.
Mike Davis is an American politician who served in the California State Assembly. Davis was declared the fourth most loyal Democratic voter in the California State Legislature in the Sacramento Bee 2011–2012 listing. He voted against the Democratic Party only 2% of the time given over 3,500 of votes taken. Davis serves as president pro tem of the City of Los Angeles Board of Public Works.
Karen Rae Tallian is an American politician and attorney who served as a member of the Indiana Senate for the 4th district from December 2005 through October 2021. She was re-elected in 2006,2010 and 2014. While serving in the Senate,Tallian,a progressive,has supported medicinal prescription and the decriminalization of marijuana,and has authored bills in its favor. In 2015,she announced her candidacy for governor of Indiana but dropped out that same year,well before the primary season. Tallian was also a candidate for the Democratic Party nomination for Indiana Attorney General in 2020,but lost the nomination to Jonathan Weinzapfel.
Ronald A. Brisé is a Democratic politician from Florida. He served in the Florida House of Representatives representing the 108th district,and as a commissioner for the Florida Public Service Commission. He is Haitian-American.
Cherrish Pryor is an American politician from Indianapolis,Indiana. She is a Democratic member of the Indiana House of Representatives,representing the 94th District since 2008. She has served as the Democratic Floor Leader since 2018. The first African American to hold the leadership position. She is also Treasurer for the National Black Caucus of State Legislators. A role she has held since 2021 and was recently re-elected to serve another two year term which will end in 2025.
Jeremy H. Oden is an American politician and is a member of the Republican Party. Oden is the current Place 1 Commissioner on the Alabama Public Service Commission. Prior to joining the PSC,Oden was a member of the Alabama House of Representatives. He was first elected to the State House in 1998 and resigned effective December 3,2012. He had previously run unsuccessfully for the state house in 1994.

Bush. She is also the former President of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC).
Susan Lynn Brooks is an American prosecutor and politician. She is a Republican and the former U.S. Representative for Indiana's 5th congressional district. She was elected in 2012. The district includes the northern fifth of Indianapolis,as well as many of the city's affluent northern and eastern suburbs. Brooks served as the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana from 2001 to 2007.
Sue Ellspermann is an American academic administrator and politician who served as the 50th lieutenant governor of Indiana,from 2013 to 2016. A member of the Republican Party,from 2010 to 2012 Ellspermann served in the Indiana House of Representatives from the 74th District,representing Warrick,Spencer,and parts of Dubois,and Perry County,Indiana. She resigned as lieutenant governor on March 2,2016,to become the president of Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana,a position she has held since July 1,2016.

Harriette Bailey Conn was an American lawyer and politician. A civil rights activist who became known for her efforts to assist minorities,women,and defendants in Indiana's criminal justice system,Conn became the first woman and the first African American to serve as Indiana's state public defender in 1970. She also served as Indianapolis' assistant city attorney from 1968 to 1970,and twice won election to the Indiana House of Representatives as a Republican until she resigned her legislative seat to become the state public defender.
Arcada Stark Balz was an American educator,clubwoman,and politician in the state of Indiana who became the first woman elected to the Indiana Senate,serving two consecutive four-year terms from 1943 to 1950 and representing Johnson and Marion Counties. Prior to entering politics,Balz was a teacher in the Indianapolis public schools and a leader in the woman's club movement in the state. Balz was the president of the Indiana Federation of Women's Clubs from 1935 to 1937. In addition,she served as president of the New Harmony Memorial Commission from 1939 to 1947.
Edith Jerry Patterson is a Democratic member of the Maryland House of Delegates who represents district 28,which is based in Charles County. She previously served as a county commissioner from 2002 to 2010 and a member of the Board of Education for Charles County from 1983 to 1995.
Daisy Riley Lloyd was the first female African American to serve in the Indiana legislature. She was one of fifteen Democrats who represented Marion County (Indianapolis) in the Indiana House of Representatives during the 94th Indiana General Assembly. She later became a realtor and family counselor and continued active in her community.
