Cashmere is the debut studio album by Swet Shop Boys. [1] It was released via Customs on October 14, 2016. [2] It peaked at number 45 on Billboard 's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. [3] Redinho handled the production, [4] while rappers Heems and Riz MC shared vocal duties. [5] Music videos were created for "T5", [6] "Zayn Malik", [7] and "Aaja". [8]

At Metacritic, which assigns a weighted average score out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album received an average score of 80, based on 8 reviews, indicating "generally favorable reviews". [9]

Chris Dart of Exclaim! wrote, "it's full of three-minute gems that get your head nodding and your brain working hard to parse multi-layered metaphors, and that stop when you're still wanting more." [14] Tanner Smith of PopMatters described it as "an undeniably complicated but fun album that reckons with South Asian representation in the global pop culture of 2016." [16]

It was placed at number 36 on NME 's "Albums of the Year 2016" list, [18] number 24 on Rolling Stone 's "40 Best Rap Albums of 2016" list, [19] and number 27 on Vice 's "100 Best Albums of 2016" list. [20]

In 2012, Suri released his first solo mixtape, Nehru Jackets, on his Greedhead imprint and in conjunction with SEVA NY, a community-based organization from Queens of which Suri is a board member. In August 2015, Heems announced that Fox had bought his story rights for a potential sitcom, and that he was working on the pilot. He is currently a member of Swet Shop Boys along with actor and rapper Riz MC and producer Redinho.

Nehru Jackets is the first solo mixtape by American rapper Himanshu. It was released on Himanshu's own Greedhead Music label on January 17, 2012.

Tom Calvert, better known by his stage name Redinho, is an English multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and producer from London. Calvert produced Swet Shop Boys' debut album Cashmere and Sufi LA, and performed with them on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in New York, and directed their live performance on BBC Radio 1. Calvert was also the member of Hudson Mohawke's live band on the Lantern album campaign, and produced Riz Ahmed's 2020 album The Long Goodbye.

Primarily an R&B and alternative R&B, the album blends elements from a number of genres, including pop, folk, dub, soul, funk, electronic, Qawwali, hip hop, reggae, classical and soft rock, among others. The album was preceded by the release of two singles: "Pillowtalk", and "Like I Would". "Wrong", featuring Kehlani, was also subsequently released as the third single. It was written by Zayn Malik, James Ho, Harold Lilly and Terrence "Scar" Smith, and produced by Malay. It was released as the third promotional single from the album on 17 March 2016 by RCA Records. "Befour" is a smooth R&B and synth-pop song, which incorporates musical elements of disco and soul music. It features four-on-the-floor beats, mellow synths, and a grinding guitar loop in its instrumentation. The song is also noted for Malik's high-reaching falsetto during the song's middle eight section.

"It's You" is a song recorded by English singer and songwriter Zayn from his debut solo studio album Mind of Mine (2016). It was written by Zayn, James Ho and Harold Lilly, whilst production was handled by Malay. Zayn debuted the track with a live performance during his appearance on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on 18 February 2016. It was later premiered on Beats 1 Radio on 25 February 2016, and ultimately was released as the first promotional single from the album on 26 February 2016 along with the album's pre-order on iTunes.
