Casselia is a small genus of flowering plants in the verbena family (Verbenaceae) first named in 1823. [1] [2] Plants in the genus Casselia are native to South America. [1]
As of 2020 [update] , Kew's Plants of the World Online accepts seven species in the genus Casselia: [1]
The Verbenaceae are a family — the verbena family or vervain family — of mainly tropical flowering plants. It contains trees, shrubs, and herbs notable for heads, spikes, or clusters of small flowers, many of which have an aromatic smell.
Calamus is a genus of flowering plants in the palm family Arecaceae that are among several genera known as rattan palms. There are an estimated 400 species in this genus, all native to tropical and subtropical Asia, Africa, and Australia. They are dioecious, mostly leaf-climbing lianas with slender, reedy stems. To aid scrambling some species have evolved hooks on the underside of the midrib, or more commonly by modified "pinnae" or tendrils in the form of stout, backward-pointing spines. These stems may grow to lengths of 200 metres.
Lippia is a genus of flowering plants in the verbena family, Verbenaceae. It was named after Augustus Lippi, (1678-1705), a French naturalist and botanist. He was killed in Abyssinia. The genus contains roughly 200 species of tropical shrubs that are found around the world. Plants are fragrant due to their essential oils, which vary between species but may include estragole, carvacrol, linalool, or limonene. The leaves of certain species, such as L. graveolens, can be used as a culinary herb similar to oregano.
Clerodendrum is a genus of flowering plants formerly placed in the family Verbenaceae, but now considered to belong to the Lamiaceae (mint) family. Its common names include glorybower, bagflower and bleeding-heart. It is currently classified in the subfamily Ajugoideae, being one of several genera transferred from Verbenaceae to Lamiaceae in the 1990s, based on phylogenetic analysis of morphological and molecular data.
Stachytarpheta is a plant genus in the verbena family (Verbenaceae). The flowers are rich in nectar and popular with many butterflies, such as the South Asian crimson rose, Malabar banded swallowtail, and grass yellow Hummingbirds, especially small species like Lophornis coquettes, Chlorostilbon emeralds, and Discosura thorntails, are especially attracted for nectar. Several species in this genus are known as porterweeds.
Amasonia is a genus of plants in the family Lamiaceae, native to South America and to the island of Trinidad.
Leiothrix is a genus of plants in the Eriocaulaceae. It is endemic to tropical South America.
Reynoutria ciliinervis is a species of flowering plant in the family Polygonaceae, native to Korea and China – north-central China, south-central China, northeast China (Manchuria) and Qinghai. It was first described by Takenoshin Nakai in 1914 and transferred to Reynoutria by Harold Norman Moldenke in 1941. It has also been placed in Fallopia and Polygonum.
Schwenckia is a genus of flowering plants in the family Solanaceae, native to Central America and South America, and with one species, S. americana, a widespread weed in Africa. In the title of the generic description Linnaeus wrote "Schwenkia" but gave the binomial of the type species as Schwenckia americana, while quoting Dav. van Royen as the author.
Melothria is a genus of flowering plants in the family Cucurbitaceae, native to the Americas from the United States to Argentina, and with some introductions in Africa and elsewhere. A number of Old World species formerly in Melothria were reassigned to Cucumis.
Ungulipetalum is a genus of flowering plants belonging to the family Menispermaceae.
Telitoxicum is a genus of flowering plants belonging to the family Menispermaceae.
