Chaves County is a county in New Mexico, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 65,157. Its county seat is Roswell. Chaves County was named for Colonel Jose Francisco Chaves, a military leader there during the Civil War and later in Navajo campaigns. The county was created by the New Mexico Territorial Legislature on February 25, 1889, out of land from Lincoln County.

It is located 70 kilometers east of the provincial capital of Ourense and 15 kilometers north of the Portuguese city of Chaves. The Tâmega River flows through the town. In the Middle Ages it was known as Santa María de Verín.

Originally settled on a granite knoll which was readily fortified, the town now extends to the southeast of its original site. Trujillo is both a centre for tourism, with over 25 hotels, and a regional market town.

Grupo Desportivo de Chaves, commonly known as Chaves, is a Portuguese professional football club from Chaves currently playing in the Primeira Liga. They were founded in 1949 and currently play at Estádio Municipal de Chaves. Their home kit is red-and-blue striped shirt with blue shorts and socks, and the away kit is all white. Their current president is Bruno Carvalho and their manager is Ricardo Soares. Chaves have been in the Portuguese First Division 13 times and had their best finish of fifth-place in the 1989–90 season. They went to Europe in the 1987–88 season, where they played in the UEFA Cup, beating Romanian side Universitatea Craiova in the first round and losing to Hungarian team Budapest Honvéd in the next round.

The 2010 Taça de Portugal Final was the final match of the 70th season of the Taça de Portugal, the main Portuguese football knockout competition. It was played at the Estádio Nacional, Oeiras, on the 16 May 2010. The final was contested between Chaves of the Liga de Honra and Porto of the Primeira Liga. Chaves were appearing in their first final, whilst Porto were appearing in their twenty-seventh final of which it was their third consecutive final. In Portugal, the final was televised live in HD on Sport TV and TVI.
