Chen Yaling (born 24 April 1984) is a Chinese track and field athlete who competes in the long jump. She represented China at the World Championships in Athletics in 2007 and has appeared twice at the Asian Games (2006, 2010).

She was the runner-up at the 2009 Asian Athletics Championships and has won gold medals at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships, the Asian Indoor Games and the East Asian Games. A three-time Chinese national champion (2006, 2007 and 2009), she holds a personal best of 6.62 metres for the long jump.

Career

Hailing from Anhui Province, [1] she began long jumping at national level in 2002 and her first major competition was the 10th Chinese Games in 2005, where she ranked thirteenth. [2] She set a personal best of 6.62 metres to win the Chinese Championships in Shijiazhuang in 2006, [3] going on to place fourth behind Olga Rypakova at the 2006 Asian Games. [4]

At the 2007 Chinese World Trials, Chen won with a season's best of 6.59 m to gain qualification into the 2007 World Championships in Athletics. [5] On her global championship debut in Osaka, she finished ninth in the qualifying round. [6] She took wins at the Chinese Championships and the Shanghai Golden Grand Prix that year, [7] [8] A jump of 6.45 m in November was enough to win the long jump gold medal at the 2007 Asian Indoor Games. [9]

A few months later she added a second indoor title to her achievements, taking the long jump competition at the 2008 Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in Doha. [10] Chen was the bronze medallist at the Good Luck Beijing test event, but did not go on to compete at the main competition at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. [11] Her 2009 season began with an indoor personal best of 6.57 m on the Chinese circuit. [12] She secured another national title outdoors in May and was one of the favourites for the 11th Chinese National Games. [13] She ended up as the silver medallist at the Games, however, as 16-year-old Lu Minjia emerged with an Asian youth record mark to win the competition. [14] Her year's best jump came in Jinan in October, clearing 6.58 m, [6] but she did not manage to reach this form at the 2009 Asian Athletics Championships, where she had to settle for silver behind Filipino Marestella Torres. [15]

She attempted a title defence at the 2009 Asian Indoor Games, but again she did not produce a strong performance and her jump of 6.27 m left her out of the medals in fourth place. [16] Chen ended the year with a gold medal on the regional stage, defeating Japan's Saeko Okayama to win at the 2009 East Asian Games. [17] She also competed at collegiate level that year, coming sixth at the 2009 Summer Universiade. [2]

Chen failed to clear six metres at the 2010 Asian Indoor Athletics Championships, but this was still sufficient for a runner-up finish in a below-standard competition. [18] She was the runner-up at the Chinese Nationals that year and her season's best jump was 6.48 m, achieved in Chongqing. She was selected to represent China at the 2010 Asian Games, but managed only tenth place in the women's long jump competition. [2]

Li Jinzhe is a Chinese track and field athlete who specialises in the long jump. His personal best is 8.47 metres, set in 2014. This gives him the Chinese record long jump.

Wassana Winatho, also known as Amornrat Winatho and Vassanee Vinatho, is a Thai track and field athlete who specialises in the heptathlon and the 400 metres hurdles. She represented Thailand at the 2008 Summer Olympics and competed at five consecutive editions of the Asian Games.

Wachara Sondee is a Thai track and field athlete who competes in sprinting events. He primarily competes in the 100 metres and 60 metres and is the Thai national record holder for the shorter distance with his best of 6.65 seconds.

Yevgeniy Ektov is a Kazakhstani track and field athlete who competes in the triple jump. He represented his country at the 2012 Summer Olympics, and the World Championships in Athletics in 2009 and 2011. He was the triple jump gold medallist at the 2011 Asian Athletics Championships and was runner-up at the 2010 Asian Games. Ektov has also won medals at the Asian Indoor Games and Asian Indoor Athletics Championships. His personal best for the event was 17.07 metres, set in 2008, improved to 17.22, set in 2012. He is married to Irina Ektova.

Liu Chunhua is a Chinese javelin thrower. She is a two-time Asian Champion in the event and won gold medals at the National Games of China and East Asian Games in 2009. Her personal best is a throw of 60.65 metres.

Sun Yawei is a female Chinese track and field athlete who competes in the 100 meter hurdles. She is a two-time gold medallist in the event at the Asian Athletics Championships and won the bronze at the Asian Games in 2010. In China, she is referred to as the "female Liu Xiang", in respect of her more successful hurdling compatriot. Her personal best time is 12.94 seconds, set in July 2011.

Meng Qianqian is a Chinese track and field athlete who competes in the women's shot put. She is the reigning Asian champion in the event.

Su Xiongfeng is a Chinese track and field athlete who competes in the long jump. He became the Asian champion at the 2011 Asian Championships and was the silver medallist at the 2010 Asian Games. His personal best jump of 8.27 metres is the Asian indoor record.

Zhang Jun is a male Chinese track and field athlete who competes in the shot put. He has won medals at the Summer Universiade, Asian Games, Asian Athletics Championships and the East Asian Games. He represented China at the 2010 IAAF World Indoor Championships and the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Dong Bin is a Chinese track and field athlete who specialises in the triple jump. In 2016 he won the World Indoor Championship.

Jiang Fan is a Chinese track and field athlete who competes in the 110 metres hurdles. He is a two-time champion in the 60 metres hurdles at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships and was the silver medallist outdoors at the 2011 Summer Universiade. He represented China at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics and set a 110 m hurdles best of 13.47 seconds at the competition.

Zhao Qinggang is a Chinese track and field athlete who competes in the javelin throw. His 89.15 m personal best throw, set in 2014, is the Chinese record. It was also the Asian record until surpassed in 2017. He represented his country at the 2013 World Championships in Athletics. He is the 2014 Asian Games champion. At the East Asian Games he was the runner-up in 2009 and winner in 2013. He is a two-time Chinese champion and was the winner of the 2013 National Games of China.

Wu Shuijiao is a female Chinese track and field athlete who competes in hurdling. Her personal best for the 100 metres hurdles is 12.93 seconds, set in 2013. Wu was the Chinese champion in the event in 2012 and 2013.

Fu Haitao is a Chinese track and field athlete who competes in the triple jump. Fu was the gold medallist at the 2013 East Asian Games and the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in 2014. He also finished in the top two at the 2010 Youth Olympics and the 2012 Asian Junior Athletics Championships. His personal best is 16.56 m.

Wang Qingling is a Chinese track and field athlete who competes in the heptathlon and pentathlon. She holds personal bests of 5785 and 4246 points for the events, respectively. She was the gold medallist at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in 2014 and won both the Chinese Championships and National Games of China in 2013.

Lu Minjia is a Chinese female track and field athlete who competes in the long jump. She was the 2009 World Youth Champion and set an Asian youth record of 6.74 m that same year. After an Asian Junior title, she was runner-up at the 2011 Asian Athletics Championships. She won gold medals at the 2012 Asian Indoor Athletics Championships and the 2015 Asian Athletics Championships.

Zhang Wei is a Chinese male track and field athlete who competes in the pole vault. He has a personal best of 5.62 m, set indoors in 2013. He was a silver medallist at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in 2012 and won the regional title at the 2015 Asian Athletics Championships.
