Chris Cohen is an American singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist best known for his solo albums as well as for having been a member of the band Deerhoof between 2002 and 2006.

Born in Los Angeles, California in 1975, he is the son of former music business executive Kip Cohen and former Broadway actress Lynn Cohen (known professionally as Lynn Carlisle). [3] In 1991, Cohen appeared in the Sonic Youth video "Cinderella's Big Score" by Dave Markey. [4] His sister is public radio reporter and host Alex Cohen.
His first instrument was drums, which he began playing at the age of 3, [5] later learning to make music by overdubbing himself on a cassette four-track. [6]
Cohen has released three records under his own name on the Captured Tracks label – Overgrown Path (2012), As If Apart (2016), and Chris Cohen (2019). Cohen performed and recorded his first two albums himself, [7] [8] describing them in an interview as "companion pieces." [9]
Overgrown Path was called "a perfectly conceived album" by Allmusic [10] and As If Apart a "powerful, exquisitely realized journey" by Pitchfork. [11] Captured Tracks' owner Mike Sniper stated via Twitter that "whenever I get depressed about running an indie rock label in 2016, I can take solace in knowing I put out 2 Chris Cohen LP's." [12] In 2012 Cohen was listed by Mac DeMarco in Pitchfork as one of his "favorite new artists." [13]
Before beginning to use his own name, Cohen wrote music for his band, The Curtains, as well as for Deerhoof, Natural Dreamers, and Cryptacize, which was a collaboration with Nedelle Torrisi and Michael Carreira. [1] After the dissolution of Cryptacize, Cohen played drums or guitar with Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti and White Magic. [14] He also toured and recorded with Cass McCombs [15] and has performed and recorded with Maher Shalal Hash Baz, Danielson and EZTV. [1]
In 2016, he co-produced and played drums on the album Front Row Seat to Earth by Weyes Blood. [16]
Cohen currently performs in his own band and in the duo Park Detail's Band with Yasi Perera. [17]
He has toured the US and Europe extensively with his band since 2012, performing at Primavera Sound, [18] Le Guess Who?, [19] and End of the Road Festivals, [20] performing alongside such artists as Eleanor Friedberger, [21] Tortoise, [22] DIIV, [23] Andy Shauf, [24] Mac DeMarco, [25] and Parquet Courts. Deerhoof is an American musical group formed in San Francisco in 1994. They consist of founding drummer Greg Saunier, bassist and singer Satomi Matsuzaki, and guitarists John Dieterich and Ed Rodriguez. Beginning as an improvised noise punk band, Deerhoof became widely renowned and influential in the 2000s through their self-produced albums.
The Fiery Furnaces are an American indie rock band, formed in 2000 in Brooklyn, New York. The band's primary members are Matthew and Eleanor Friedberger. The siblings are originally from Oak Park, Illinois, a near-western suburb of Chicago. They are known for their ambitious, highly conceptual releases, which have frequently divided critical opinion.
Apple O' is the fifth studio album by the indie rock band Deerhoof. It was released in 2003 on Kill Rock Stars and 5 Rue Christine, an offshoot of Kill Rock Stars. The album is the group's first with guitarist Chris Cohen.

Calamity is the fourth album by Californian pop band The Curtains, released in 2006 on Asthmatic Kitty. It was recorded directly after Deerhoof's "The Runners Four". The album is exclusively produced by Chris Cohen. It features guest performances by Nedelle Torrisi and Yasi Perera, as well as trombone by John Ringhofer.

Catacombs is the fourth full-length album by Cass McCombs released on June 1, 2009 in the UK, and on July 7 in North America via Domino Records. The first single, "Dreams Come True Girl", was released on May 25, 2009. The single also features Academy Award-nominee Karen Black as backing vocals. The album was voted one of the 50 greatest albums of 2009 by Pitchfork Media. Music videos have been released for the songs "Dreams-Come-True-Girl", "You Saved My Life", and "The Executioner's Song".
Samuel Benjamin Cohen is an American rock vocalist, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, artist, and producer based in Brooklyn, New York. A founding member of the psychedelic rock and pop band Apollo Sunshine, he released several albums with the group in the early 2000s. In 2009 he formed the solo project Yellowbirds, releasing the debut album The Color in 2011. This release was followed by Songs from the Vanished Frontier in 2013. The first Sam Cohen record, Cool It, was released on April 28, 2015, on Easy Sound Records, and primary featured Cohen playing all of the instruments. It was then re-released on Danger Mouse's imprint of Columbia Records, 30th Century Records, on June 3, 2016. Cohen is also known for his original collages on the Yellowbirds album covers, and his collage animation videos.
Wit's End is the fifth full-length album by Cass McCombs. It was released on Domino Records in April 2011, becoming the first of two albums released by McCombs that year. The first single from the album, "County Line", was accompanied by two different music videos.
Humor Risk is the sixth full-length album by Cass McCombs. It was released on November 8, 2011, just seven months after the release of McCombs' previous album, Wit's End. In an interview with the Pitchfork website, McCombs said the two albums were made simultaneously. He explained: "Wit's End was started years ago and it slowly made its way to the finish line. Humor Risk was just punched out. They're friends but they're different. Wit's End is like a stew; Humor Risk is the raw food diet."
