Chris Kraus (born February 22, 1983) is a Canadian basketball coach who is the current head coach of the Stonehill Skyhawks men's basketball team. [1]

Playing career

Kraus played for his father at Markham District High School before enrolling at Stonehill, where he was part of the Skyhawks' 2006 NCAA Division II Final Four team. [2] After graduation, Kraus would play one season of professional basketball in England for London United. [1]

Coaching career

Beginning his coaching career in Canada, Kraus joined the coaching staff at Brandon University in Manitoba for two seasons before moving on to Acadia University for a single season. He'd return to his alma mater and join the coaching staff of his former coach David McLaughlin in 2010. In 2013, when McLaughlin joined the coaching staff at Northeastern, Kraus was elevated to head coach of the Skyhawks. [2] [3]

In nine seasons at the helm at the Division II level, Kraus guided Stonehill to three NCAA tournament bids, including an Elite Eight appearance in 2016. [4] Kraus will guide the Skyhawks into NCAA Division I as the school becomes a member of the Northeast Conference for the 2022–23 season. [5]

Mike McLaughlin is the women's basketball coach for the University of Pennsylvania since 2009. For his basketball playing career, McLaughlin reached the first round of the 1989 NAIA men's basketball tournament while at Holy Family College. From 1989 to 1992, he continued to play basketball with the Washington Generals. After becoming the women's basketball coach for Holy Family in 1995, McLaughlin's team were in the Elite Eight of the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Championship four times from 1998 to 2002.

The team plays its home games at Skyhawk Field on the campus of Stonehill College. The Skyhawks are coached by Jim Reddish. In 2022, the Skyhawks began play in Division I, reclassified from Division II. Prior to 2022, Stonehill was a founding member of the Northeast-10 Conference in NCAA Division II.
