Christopher David Sherrington (born 21 October 1983 in Ormskirk, England) is a British judoka. [1] He competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the +100 kg event. [2] He is a black belt. [3]

Judo career

Sherrington born in Ormskirk, England came to prominence when he became champion of Great Britain, winning the heavyweight division at the British Judo Championships in 2005. He repeated the success three years later in 2008. [4]

In 2011 Sherrington won a Samoa World Cup. [5]

In 2012, he was selected to represent Great Britain at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Competing in the men's +100 kg category he lost his second round match to eventual silver medallist Alexander Mikhaylin. [1] The following year Sherrington secured his third British heavyweight title. In 2014, he won the gold medal for Scotland at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in heavyweight division. He defeated South African Ruan Snyman in the final.

In 2019, Sherrington won a fourth British Championship title. [4]

Personal life

Sherrington is a Royal Marines Commando. [6]

Beka Gviniashvili is a Georgian judoka who became European Junior Champion in 2013, 2014, and 2015 and won the World Junior Championships in 2013 in Ljubljana and in 2015 in Abu Dhabi and EYOF in 2011. He also became the U23 European Championship in 2016 in Tel Aviv. With the Georgian Juniors, he won the World and European titles. He is a promising rising judoka. He placed 5th at the 2015 World Judo Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan after losing in the bronze medal final against one of his colleagues Varlam Liparteliani. Guusje Steenhuis is a Dutch judoka. She won the bronze medal in the 78 kg event at the 2015 European Games in Baku. She is the four-time silver medalist of European Judo Championships in the 78 kg division. She competed in the women's 78 kg event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

Christopher Bowles is a British judoka. He competed in the men's half-middleweight event at the 1980 Summer Olympics.
