Celebrating Christmas
(2005)

Christmas is the first Christmas worship album of Christian Contemporary music composed of Christmas songs by the Hillsong Church. [1] It was released, in Australia, for Christmas in 2001 and appeared in international markets by September 2001. [2]

Christmas holiday originating in Christianity, usually celebrated on December 25 (in the Gregorian or Julian calendars)

Christmas is an annual festival, commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ, observed primarily on December 25 as a religious and cultural celebration among billions of people around the world. A feast central to the Christian liturgical year, it is preceded by the season of Advent or the Nativity Fast and initiates the season of Christmastide, which historically in the West lasts twelve days and culminates on Twelfth Night; in some traditions, Christmastide includes an octave. Christmas Day is a public holiday in many of the world's nations, is celebrated religiously by a majority of Christians, as well as culturally by many non-Christians, and forms an integral part of the holiday season centered around it.

Hillsong Church Church in Australia

The church was founded in 1983, originally called Hills Christian Life Centre, in Baulkham Hills, New South Wales, by Brian Houston and his wife, Bobbie. The church is also known for its worship music, with groups such as Hillsong Worship, Hillsong United and Hillsong Young & Free. Formerly a member of the Australian Christian Churches, it separated from ACC in 2018.

Album details

The songs on Christmas are renditions of popular Christmas carols and several of Hillsong Music's own songs led by Darlene Zschech & the Hillsong Team. This album has three more tracks than the earlier version of this album entitled Jesus, Christmas Worship Down Under, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Away in a Manger and The First Noel.

Darlene Zschech Australian singer and pastor

Darlene Joyce Zschech is an Australian Pentecostal Christian worship leader and singer-songwriter who primarily writes praise and worship songs. Described as a "pioneer of the modern worship movement", she is the former worship pastor of Hillsong Church and is currently a member of Compassionart, a charity founded by Martin Smith.

Reception

In September 2001 Mike Rimmer of Cross Rhythms rated the album as 8 out of 10 and described it as "their releases are always top quality ... with just less than 50% traditional carols. All the classics are here". [2] BREATHEcast's Timothy Yap reviewed the disc in November 2013 after it was issued as part of a two-disc compilation, It's Christmas, and found the earlier material on Christmas to be superior as it has a "more cohesive feel as Darlene Zschech is featured on most of the tracks here" than the material on Celebrating Christmas (2005). [3] In November 2001 CCM Magazine rated it as 7 out of 10 and felt "they come up with some wonderful new praise and worship songs, and breath new life into older ones". [4]

Cross Rhythms (magazine)

Cross Rhythms was the eponymously titled music magazine produced by the Christian media organisation of the same name. It was founded under the name Cross Rhythms Magazine by editor Tony Cummings and printer Mark Golding in April 1989, with the first issue being made available in May 1990. Two years later, publication of the magazine was taken over by Cornerstone House, a publishing company owned by Chris Cole. After partnering with Christian radio station United Christian Broadcasters (UCB) in 1995, the magazine was given more financial stability. Around this time, Cross Rhythms had a circulation of approximately 15,000. Around 2000 Cross Rhythms's official website was launched, which continued online after the paper magazine ceased publication in the summer of 2005 with its 85th issue. As of August 2009, the website is the sixth most viewed Christian website in the UK.
