CircusTrix was an American developer, operator and franchisor of indoor trampoline and extreme recreation parks. [1] [2] The company operates over 319 parks [3] [4] in the United States, Europe, and Asia [5] making it the largest trampoline park operator in the world, [6] [7] the largest operator of extreme obstacle courses in the United States, [8] and the operator of the largest trampoline park in Germany. [9] [10]
The CircusTrix parks incorporate interconnected trampolines, soft foam pits, trapezes, slacklines, and American Ninja Warrior -inspired obstacle courses. [1] [11] [12] In 2016, American Ninja Warrior competitor, Kevin Bull, signed an endorsement deal with the company. [13] The company is based in Provo, Utah with additional offices in Los Angeles. [14] [15]
Brands that fell under the CircusTrix corporate umbrella include Sky Zone, Rockin’ Jump, Ryze, [11] HighHeaven, [16] Skywalk, [12] 2Infinity, [17] Gravitopia, and numerous others. [14]
CircusTrix was founded in October 2011 [5] by Case Lawrence, a former attorney and real estate developer from Fresno, California. Lawrence got the idea for the company after visiting a trampoline park in San Francisco with his children. The first CircusTrix park, SkyWalk, was opened near Fresno in 2011. The second park, dubbed Defy Gravity, was opened in Durham, North Carolina in mid-2012. [1] [18] [19] Over the next two years CircusTrix acquired, renovated and expanded other existing parks, increasing the number of locations to over 20 in 2014. [20]
The company's exponential growth continued as they expanded the brand internationally by opening large, diverse parks in Europe and Asia under the Ryze brand name. In January 2014, CircusTrix announced that they would be expanding to the Asian market with a new trampoline park in Hong Kong. The park was opened in July 2014. [11] [21] [22] The first European park was announced in September 2014 [23] and was opened in January 2015 in Edinburgh, Scotland. [24] By mid-2015, the company was operating 25 parks, most of which were in the United States. [2] By the end of 2015, that number had increased to 28. [7] Parks in South Korea, Hong Kong and Edinburgh opened between 2015 and 2016. [25] [26]
In 2016, new parks were opened or are planned to open in locations like Sacramento, California; [1] Clovis; [12] Seoul, South Korea; [11] Lakeland, Florida; [17] Visalia, California; and others. [19] Many parks began introducing American Ninja Warrior-inspired obstacle courses, as well. [12] In June 2016, CircusTrix announced that it had signed an endorsement deal with Kevin Bull, a frequent American Ninja Warrior competitor. As part of the deal, Bull trains in the company's parks and also appears in CircusTrix television and radio ads. [13] As of August 2016, the company operates over 30 parks in the United States, Europe, and Asia. [4] [12]
By the end of 2016, CircusTrix had 40 parks throughout the world; [12] by February 2019 the number had grown to 319 parks operating.
In January 2017, CircusTrix closed a round of private equity funding with Palladium Equity Partners for a fee estimated to be upwards of $200 million. [27] According to The Wall Street Journal, the investment "represents the first significant move by private equity in the nascent indoor recreation sector." [28] In March 2017, CircusTrix acquired trampoline park operator Rockin' Jump Holdings in a deal backed by Palladium Equity Partners. [29]
In February 2018, CircusTrix acquired the Sky Zone chain of indoor trampoline parks and family entertainment centers. [3] [30] After completing the Sky Zone acquisition, CircusTrix had a total of 287 facilities and nearly 16,000 employees worldwide, which made it the biggest trampoline park operator in the world. [31]
On August 22, 2018, CircusTrix celebrated the opening of their 300th park. [32] [33] The chain was recognized as Utah's second fastest-growing company in 2018 by Utah Business Magazine. CircusTrix was also ranked in the top 2,000 fastest-growing private companies on the Inc. 5000 list two years in a row.
On January 21, 2023, CircusTrix underwent a rebrand, sold off its European parks, and rebranded numerous parks to Sky Zone (parks located west of the Mississippi River) and DEFY (Parks located East of the Mississippi River).
At one point, CircusTrix operated over 319 indoor trampoline parks [4] in North America, Europe, and Asia. [5] Most parks consist of dozens of interconnected trampolines, American Ninja Warrior-style obstacle courses, soft foam pits, trapezes, and slacklines. [1] [11] [12] Parks also contain special dodgeball and basketball courts along with aerial skills and parkour sections. [16] [21] [22] Many parks also contain programs specifically for American Ninja Warrior training. [12]
Parks in the United States operated under a variety of brand names including 2Infinity, Cloud9, [14] Defy, Defy Gravity, [1] [18] Gravitopia, High Rise, HighHeaven, [2] JumpJam, Jumpology, Planet3, Rockin' Jump, Ryze, Sky Zone, Skywalk, [12] Superfly and others. High Rise Extreme Air Sports in Rogers, AR has been seen as a stand-out in the Greater Northwest Arkansas Region and a beacon of what CircusTrix aims to provide its guests. American Ninja Warrior is an American sports entertainment reality show based on the Japanese television reality show Sasuke, which also serves as a successor of American Ninja Challenge. It features a set of obstacle courses in various cities, which competitor attempt to conquer. The obstacle courses are divided into Qualifiers courses, Semifinals courses, and a four-part Finals course which is based at Las Vegas Strip. The competitor who finishes all the courses in the fastest time wins a cash prize of $1,000,000. Starting with season 10, if one remaining competitor fails on any of Finals course parts but has completed it more than the others in the fastest time, they win a consolatory $100,000 prize. The show is hosted by Matt Iseman and Akbar Gbaja-Biamila. To date, only three competitors have won the main cash prize: Isaac Caldiero, Drew Drechsel, and Vance Walker. Furthermore, Geoff Britten, Daniel Gil, and Caleb Bergstrom are the only three runners-up who have achieved Total Victory.
Obstacle course racing (OCR) is a sport in which a competitor, traveling on foot, must overcome various physical challenges in the form of obstacles. Races vary in length from courses with obstacles close together to events of several kilometers which incorporate elements of track, road and/or cross country/trail running. Courses may include climbing over walls or up ropes, monkey bars, carrying heavy objects, traversing bodies of water or mud, crawling under barbed wire, and jumping through fire. Since the beginning of modern OCR in 1987, the sport has grown in popularity such that more than 2500 events are held annually across the world and several run organizing companies are commercially successful.

Ninja Warrior UK is a British physical obstacle assault course game show, created for ITV. The show is based upon the format of the Japanese game show Sasuke, created by Ushio Higuchi, which is aired in the United Kingdom and other countries as Ninja Warrior.
The fifth season of American Ninja Warrior premiered on G4 on June 30, 2013, with subsequent shows airing on both G4 and NBC. Host Matt Iseman returned for his fifth season, while newcomers Akbar Gbaja-Biamila and Jenn Brown replaced skier Jonny Moseley and Angela Sun. Similar to previous seasons, the winner receives $500,000 and the coveted title, "American Ninja Warrior". This also marks the second season Mount Midoriyama was held on U.S. soil.
The fourth season of American Ninja Warrior began on May 20, 2012, and aired on NBC and G4. This was a landmark season for Ninja Warrior, as the entire format was overhauled. For the first time, the finals took place on U.S. soil. In addition, regional qualifying and finals were added, taking place in the series' flagship location, Venice Beach, CA, Dallas, TX, and Miami, FL. New co-host Jonny Moseley replaced Jimmy Smith, while Angela Sun replaced Alison Haislip. Again, the winner would have received $500,000 and the coveted American Ninja Warrior title. Brent Steffensen became the first competitor to complete the Ultimate Cliffhanger.
Rugged Maniac, also known as the Mud Run, was an annual obstacle course race, which was hosted in multiple cities across the United States and Canada in 2010-2023. Participants completed a 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) course with obstacles that included muddy water slides, crawling through tunnels, jumping over logs set on fire, and scaling large, curved walls. Billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban invested in Rugged Maniac, after meeting them on season 5 of the hit ABC reality show Shark Tank. As of 2024, according to their website, the company has gone out of business.

The ninth season of American Ninja Warrior premiered on June 12, 2017 on NBC. Hosts Matt Iseman and Akbar Gbaja-Biamila returned for their respective eighth and fifth seasons, alongside sideline reporter Kristine Leahy who returned for her third season. In addition prior to the ninth-season premiere, NBC aired a special ANW Celebrity, Red Nose Day edition featuring nine celebrities, each coached by nine elite ninjas on May 25 before airing USA vs. The World III on June 4.
Series Three of Ninja Warrior UK, a British physical obstacle assault course game show, was aired on ITV from 31 December 2016 to 18 February 2017. Of the 250 contestant who took part, this series' competition was won by Jonny Urszuly. During its broadcast, the series averaged around 3.81 million viewers.
