The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is a state-operated mass transit administration in Maryland, and is part of the Maryland Department of Transportation. The MTA operates a comprehensive transit system throughout the Washington-Baltimore metropolitan area. There are 80 bus lines serving the Baltimore Metropolitan Area, along with rail services that include the Light Rail, Metro Subway, and MARC Train. In 2022, the system had a ridership of 52,922,000, or about 219,300 per weekday as of the first quarter of 2023.
West Baltimore station is a regional rail station located in the western part of the City of Baltimore, Maryland along the Northeast Corridor. It is served by MARC Penn Line trains. The station is positioned on an elevated grade above and between the nearby parallel West Mulberry and West Franklin Streets at 400 North Smallwood Street. Three large surface lots are available for commuters. The station is not accessible, with two low-level side platforms next to the outer tracks, but MTA Maryland plans to later renovate the station with accessible platforms and entrances.
Quickbus 40 was a limited stop bus route operated by the Maryland Transit Administration in Baltimore and its suburbs. The line was discontinued in June 2017 as part of the BaltimoreLink system rebranding along with the other "Quickbus" limited-stop routes. In April 2022, the MTA announced a proposal to revive the route before the end of the same year as the QuickLink 40.
CityLink Orange is a bus route operated by the Maryland Transit Administration in Baltimore and its suburbs. The line currently runs from the Wal-Mart parking lot in Catonsville, Maryland east through downtown Baltimore to the Fox Ridge community in Essex, serving the corridors of Edmondson Avenue on the west side and Eastern Avenue on the east, and the communities of Edmondson Village, Allendale, Rosemont, Patterson Park, and Eastpoint, and is one of the most heavily used bus routes operated by the MTA.
CityLink Gold is a bus route operated by the Maryland Transit Administration in Baltimore. It replaced Route 13 in 2017. The line currently runs from Walbrook Junction in West Baltimore to Canton, mostly along North Avenue. The line has two main branches, both operating to Canton: one that operates via Fells Point and the other via Linwood and East Streets. Both these branches serve Johns Hopkins Hospital. Additionally, selected trips on weekdays and Saturdays operate to the block of Milton Avenue, Federal Street, and Patterson Park Avenue.
LocalLink Route 56 is a bus route operated by the Maryland Transit Administration in Baltimore and its suburbs. The line runs between the Park and Ride station in White Marsh and Charles Center in Downtown Baltimore. In June 2017, LocalLink 56 replaced the former local bus Route 35, which connected the city's downtown area with White Marsh, to the east of the city, and UMBC to the west. Route 35 was the successor to the No. 3 Wilkens Avenue and No, 6 Monument Street streetcar lines.
Mondawmin station is a Metro SubwayLink station in Baltimore, Maryland. It is located under the intersection of Reisterstown Road and Liberty Heights Avenue in the Mondawmin neighborhood, adjacent to the Mondawmin Mall. It is the northernmost underground station on the line, and a major transfer point to many bus routes.
The Maryland Transit Administration provides the primary public bus service for the Baltimore metropolitan area and commuter bus service in other parts of the state of Maryland. There are currently 76 bus routes, which include 45 LocalLink routes, 12 High Frequency CityLink Routes routes, 8 express bus routes, 19 commuter bus routes, and 5 Intercounty Connector or "ICC" routes. The local and commuter bus routes operate in conjunction with one subway line, three light rail lines, MARC train service, and various connections to other transit agencies.
LocalLink 30 is a bus route operated by the Maryland Transit Administration in Baltimore and its suburbs. It replaced route 44 following the 2017 BaltimoreLink overhaul of the bus network. The line currently runs from Rosedale Industrial Park near Pulaski Highway just outside the Baltimore city limits on the east side of the city across the northern portion of the city to Security Square Mall, with selected peak hour trips to the Social Security Administration. Some early morning trips before 7 AM lay over at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) headquarters. The line operates mostly along Frankford Avenue, Echodale Avenue, East Belvedere Avenue, Northern Parkway, Rogers Avenue, and Gwynn Oak Avenue, serving the communities of Gardenville, Hamilton, Belvedere Park, Homeland, Roland Park, Pimlico, and Arlington, and the western suburb of Woodlawn.
LocalLink 22 is a bus route operated by the Maryland Transit Administration in Baltimore. The line currently operates between the Mondawmin Metro Subway Station and Bayview Medical Center, serving Television Hill, the Woodberry Light Rail Stop, Hampden, The Rotunda, Homewood, Johns Hopkins University, Waverly, Belair-Edison, and Highlandtown.
The Yellow Line is a mass transit line proposed by the Baltimore Regional Rail Plan in March 2002 for the Baltimore, Maryland area. It would begin at Columbia Town Center in Columbia, Maryland, and end in Hunt Valley, Maryland at Shawan Road.
Beechfield is a neighborhood in the Southwest District of Baltimore, located between Yale Heights (east) and the Baltimore County line (west). Its population in 2008 was estimated at 3,789.
The Charles Street Trolley is a proposed trolley line running through northern portions of Baltimore, Maryland, United States. Kittelson & Associates, Inc., a consulting firm hired by trolley advocates, estimates that the line would be likely to carry 2.5 million riders per year.
Westgate is a neighborhood in the Southwest District of Baltimore, located between Baltimore County (west) and the city neighborhood of Ten Hills (east). Its boundaries are marked by Baltimore National Pike (north), Frederick Avenue (south), Rock Glen Avenue and Edmondson Avenue (east) and the city line (west).
Southern Maryland Rapid Transit, abbreviated as SMRT, is a proposed mass transit line along the Maryland Route 5 and U.S. Route 301 highway corridors in between Washington, D.C., and Waldorf, Maryland. The project would link the heavily populated suburbs of northwestern Southern Maryland with Washington via a direct transit connection to the Washington Metro at Branch Avenue station.
LocalLink 38 is a bus route operated by the Maryland Transit Administration in Baltimore between Westgate and Medfield. Primarily serving high school students traveling to the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and Western High School campuses, the route was suspended on April 6, 2020, as schools closed during the 2020 coronavirus pandemic. The Maryland Transit Administration announced that the route would remain suspended on September 30, 2020, along with the LocalLink 92, while all other LocalLink routes would continue service. In Fall 2021, as Baltimore City Schools re-opened for in-person instruction, the MTA restored the LocalLink 38 route as a limited service for school trips on weekdays only. The bus departs from North Bend Loop, near the corner of North Bend Road and Edmondson Avenue just outside the western edge of the city border, and terminates at Poly Western High, near the intersection of Cold Spring Lane and Falls Road in north Baltimore, for two morning trips scheduled 5 minutes apart. Two reverse trips also scheduled 5 minutes apart run after school.
LocalLink 26 is a bus route operated by the Maryland Transit Administration in Baltimore between Mondawmin and Brooklyn. On southbound trips, the route departs from Mondawmin Metro Bus Bay 2, near the intersection of Reisterstown Road and Liberty Heights Avenue north of Mondawmin Mall in West Baltimore, and terminates at the South Baltimore Park & Ride near the intersection of South Hanover Street and Baltic Avenue. Northbound trips run in the opposite direction between these terminal stops.
CityLink Brown is a bus route operated by the Maryland Transit Administration between Downtown Baltimore City, and Overlea, Baltimore County, or White Marsh, Baltimore County. Northbound trips on the route depart from University of Maryland Medical Center, at the intersection of South Greene Street and West Pratt Street in Downtown Baltimore, and terminate at either the intersection of Belair Road and East Overlea Avenue just outside the eastern Baltimore City boundary, or at the White Marsh Mall Park & Ride. The northern terminal stop alternates throughout the day, and late night service only runs to Overlea. Southbound trips run between the same terminal stops in reverse; likewise, they depart either from White Marsh or Overlea.
Rognel Heights is a neighborhood in the Southwest District of Baltimore, sandwiched between Hunting Ridge (west) and Edmondson Village (east) along Edmondson Avenue (south). Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park begins at the neighborhood's northern edge. Its boundaries are marked by Swann Avenue on the western edge, North Woodington Road on the east and Edmondson Avenue on the southern edge. The neighborhood of Uplands is located to the south of Rognel Heights, on the opposite side of Edmondson Avenue.
