Clone Drone in the Danger Zone is a beat 'em up video game developed and published by Doborog Games. Initially made available as an early access game on Steam in 2017, it was released for macOS, Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on July 27, 2021.
In the game, the player's mind has been transferred into a robot gladiator. [2] Playing as a robot, the player must fight against "floors" of enemies by using weapons or the environment around them. [3] The playable area is built like a Colosseum, with similar robot NPCs in the stands of the arena. After each level, the player can upgrade themselves or gain new abilities such as clones, new weapons, or lower cooldowns. The game has 4 modes: story mode, endless mode, challenges, and Twitch mode. A virtual reality sequel called Clone Drone in the Hyperdome was released on December 13, 2024. [4]
Robots are trying to conquer Earth and have enslaved large parts of humanity. Instead of forcing labor and work, the minds of people are transferred into robotic bodies. Using these robots, the emperor pits them against other fighting robots for their own entertainment, similar to a Colosseum fight. [5]
If the player makes it to level 10, they will be spoken to by a floating head, later revealed to be the first human to escape the colosseum, helps the player to escape via the garbage chute.
Chapter two takes place right after the first, with a new human. Similar to the last, if the player makes it to level 10 they will escape. This time via a garbage bot picking the player up and flying them to a hidden room within the fictional city. In the room is the robot the player previously escaped with in chapter one, waiting for them. It is also revealed in this chapter that the robots are going to invade Earth.
Once again, Chapter three takes place right after the last, Emilia, the floating head, talks to the players and informs them of their goal; to stop the robots from invading earth. To do this, however, the player must make their way through a tower that can transfer the player(s) to a ship making its way to earth. Once the player makes it to the top of the tower, they must beat a "fleet overseer" a spider-like boss with various different weapons. Once defeated the player may try to transfer to the ship but gets stopped by the emperor who proceeds to kill one of the allied robots and Emilia, however, the player still makes (with only one robot) it to a ship within the fleet.
As the player is transferred into a Mark 1 sword robot aboard one of the ships, they get whisked away into a "storage room", by the ship's commander. Once in said room the player gets killed by a spear bot and gains control of the spear robot with a "mind transfer virus" installed by Emilia before she died. Using this virus the player eventually makes their way through the ship and must take control of the ship. To do this the player must defeat the captain, who is the same as the fleet overseer from chapter three, and control bots, mind, infantry, logistics, and warfare, each with their own weapons and attack styles. Once all of said enemies are defeated, the player may take control of the ship.
At the beginning of this chapter, the player fights robot ships with a novel spaceship-battle mechanic. The player is then mind-transferred into the body of a Mark 1 sword robot in The Emperor's ship and is freed from its room by the allied robot killed in Chapter Three who is revealed to not have been actually killed. The player then fights their way through The Emperor's ship until reaching him, whereupon they engage in combat. The player has limited mind transfers to a few different weak robots as backup lives. After the emperor is defeated once, it is revealed to the player that he can in fact just summon backups of him, which would put the player in an infinite loop of combat. This causes a cutscene where the player is seen using a computer terminal to enter The Mindspace, where battle is done with Mindspace variants of existing enemies across a plain floating-island-like landscape made of reflective materials. The player eventually fights the prototype Spider-Tron 7000, and destroys The Emperor's mysterious cube, which removes his cloning capabilities. After this, the player exits The Mindspace and battles The Emperor again, who states that his objective is now the total extermination of humanity, and is in a powered-up form. If he is defeated, a victory cutscene plays where other robots, seemingly in executive roles, appear on a screen and decide to leave the Solar System and relinquish the ship to the human. Then, other human-robots are shown to have been freed, and the game ends.
The game started as an early access game released on Steam on March 16, 2017. [6] Doborog Games was founded by the game's creator, Erik Rydeman at the same time. In May 29, 2020, it was announced via the game's blog that it would be released worldwide in 2021.
On May 5, 2017, a level editor was released, and custom levels could be uploaded to the Steam Workshop.
On November 15, 2019, achievements, emotes, skins, and multiplayer were added.
On June 1, 2021, Doborog announced on Steam that the game would be released on all platforms on July 27, 2021. [7]
Beta versions of Clone Drone in the Danger Zone received favorable reviews. Critics praised its voxel style and simple gameplay, and often commented on the game's difficulty in the endless mode.
Steam gave Clone Drone in the Danger Zone a 10/10. [8]
Kotaku reviewer Heather Alexandra said that "Each victory feels satisfying. Each failure feels brutal.", also commenting that "Clone Drone In The Danger Zone is the video game version of Skittles. Bright and refreshing junk food that serious hits the spot when you need it." [3]
Robert Purchese of Eurogamer praised the game's comedy and simple gameplay, saying "It's all very Monty Python and it's absolutely supposed to be. Clone Drone in the Danger Zone is a comedy.", and "The combat here isn't as complex. It's been reduced to a few moves: left and right swipes, and an overhead strike." [2]
Descent is a first-person shooter (FPS) game developed by Parallax Software and released by Interplay Productions in 1995 for MS-DOS, and later for Macintosh, PlayStation, and RISC OS. It popularized a subgenre of FPS games employing six degrees of freedom and was the first FPS to feature entirely true-3D graphics. The player is cast as a mercenary hired to eliminate the threat of a mysterious extraterrestrial computer virus infecting off-world mining robots. In a series of mines throughout the Solar System, the protagonist pilots a spaceship and must locate and destroy the mine's power reactor and escape before being caught in the mine's self-destruction, defeating opposing robots along the way. Players can play online and compete in either deathmatches or cooperate to take on the robots.
Pokémon Colosseum is a role-playing video game developed by Genius Sonority and published by The Pokémon Company and Nintendo for the GameCube. A spin-off of the Pokémon series, it was released on November 21, 2003 in Japan, March 22, 2004 in North America and May 14, 2004 in Europe. Unlike previous titles' random encounters with Pokémon, Colosseum allows the player to steal ("snag") the Pokémon of other Pokémon Trainers. The game also features single-player and multiplayer battle modes.
Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine is a falling block puzzle game developed by Compile and published by Sega. It was released for the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive in North America and Europe in November 1993, and ported to the Game Gear in 1993 and Master System in 1994.
Descent II is a 1996 first-person shooter game developed by Parallax Software and first published for DOS by Interplay Productions. A version for the PlayStation was released under the title Descent Maximum. It is the second installment in the Descent video game series and the sequel to Descent. The player controls a spaceship from the pilot's perspective and must navigate extrasolar underground mines to locate and destroy their reactors and escape being caught in their self-destructions, while engaging and surviving infected robots, which will attempt to destroy the ship. Unlike other first-person shooters, its six-degrees-of-freedom scheme allows the player to move and rotate in any three-dimensional space and direction.
Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness is a role-playing video game in the Pokémon series developed by Genius Sonority and published by The Pokémon Company and Nintendo. Hybrid Heaven is a 1999 action role playing game developed by Konami Computer Entertainment Osaka and published by Konami for Nintendo 64. This game is most notable for its peculiar mix of genres: it has aspects of both role-playing video games and action-adventure games. Global Agenda is a class-based shooter online team-based game by Hi-Rez Studios developed using Unreal Engine 3. Global Agenda was started in 2005 as the studio's first project. The game went live on February 1, 2010. In April 2011, Global Agenda was re-released as a free-to-play game. The game's servers were shut down in 2018 and reopened in 2022.

Serious Sam: Next Encounter is a 2004 first-person shooter game developed by Climax Solent and published by Global Star Software. As a spin-off in the Serious Sam series, it follows Sam "Serious" Stone, who tracks an unidentified enemy through ancient Rome, feudal China and Atlantis, and eliminates the forces the enemy controls to eventually uncover their identity. The player controls Sam through enclosed levels, fighting waves of enemies with an assortment of weapons and, occasionally, vehicles. Defeating enemies is a prerequisite to advance in a level and killing twenty in rapid succession temporarily grants a strength, speed and score boost in a "Super Combo". Two players can complete the campaign cooperatively and up to eight can engage in versus modes.
Nancy Drew Dossier: Resorting to Danger is a hidden object game PC game, developed and published by Her Interactive. In the game, detective Nancy Drew is sent to the Redondo Centre for Rejuvenation to determine who has been setting a series of non-lethal but damage-causing bombs around the resort. The player must complete a series of mini-games, including hidden-object challenges, matching games, and puzzles, as well as performing tasks around the resort and interrogating guests. The game features six possible endings, depending on the player's answers to questions earlier in the game.
FortressCraft is a video game by British indie developer Projector Games, released on Xbox Live Indie Games on April 8, 2011. FortressCraft cites Minecraft, Infiniminer and Dwarf Fortress as direct inspirations for the design aspect of the game. The game utilizes textured voxels to simulate landscapes, traditionally reminiscent of other titles in the genre.
Space Engineers is a voxel-based sandbox game, developed and published by Czech independent developer Keen Software House. In 2013, the initial developmental release of the game joined the Steam early access program. During the following years of active development, Space Engineers sold over one million units. In total as of 2024 the game has sold over 5 million copies In May 2015, for approximately a year and a half, the game's source code was officially available and maintained by KSH to assist the modding community. On December 15, 2016, the game entered Beta and was later officially released on February 28, 2019.
Ark: Survival Evolved is a 2017 action-adventure survival video game developed by Studio Wildcard. In the game, players must survive being stranded on one of several maps filled with roaming dinosaurs, fictional fantasy monsters, and other prehistoric animals, natural hazards, and potentially hostile human players.

Scrap Mechanic is a sandbox video game developed for Windows by Swedish game studio and publisher Axolot Games, in which players can build machines, vehicles, and buildings, and share their creations online. The initial version of the game, released on January 20, 2016, was a creative mode with unlimited access to all available parts for building. On the day of its release, it was the top-selling game on Steam and is estimated to have 1–2 million sales. The survival mode update for the game, with new game mechanics including wildlife, scavenging, farming, and cooking, as well as an underwater biome, was released on May 7, 2020. It was the third-best-selling game on Steam the week after the update.
Teardown is a 2022 sandbox–puzzle video game developed and published by Tuxedo Labs. The game revolves around the owner of a financially stricken demolition company, who is caught undertaking a questionable job and becomes entangled between helping police investigations and taking on further dubious assignments. Teardown features levels made of destructible voxels, and the player follows the campaign through consecutive missions. In most missions, the player must collect or destroy objects connected to a security alarm that triggers a timer. The player has unlimited time to prepare and is given upgradable tools, vehicles, and explosives to create a path within the level that allows them to complete the objectives and reach a getaway vehicle before the timer runs out.
Red Matter is a 2018 sci-fi virtual reality game developed and published by Spanish studio Vertical Robot. The player plays as Agent Epsilon, who crash lands on one of Saturn's moons, Rhea, and goes to explore a nearby military base belonging to the fictional People's Republic of Volgravia. The game received positive reviews from critics, who praised the atmosphere of the environments, but criticized some of the puzzles as being confusing. Red Matter released on May 24, 2018 for Oculus Rift, with versions for the HTC Vive, Oculus Quest, and PlayStation VR launching in November 2018, December 2018, and August 2019, respectively. A sequel, Red Matter 2, was released for Steam VR and Meta Quest 2 on 18 August 2022 and for Playstation VR2 on 18 May 2023.
