Conus buxeus, common name the fig cone, is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Conidae, the cone snails and their allies. [1]
Like all species within the genus Conus, these snails are predatory and venomous. They are capable of stinging humans, therefore live ones should be handled carefully or not at all.
There is one subspecies : Conus buxeus loroisiiKiener, 1845 (synonyms : Conus agrestisMörch, 1850; Conus figulinus var. insignisDautzenberg, 1937; Conus huberorumda Motta, 1989; Dendroconus loroisii insignis (f) Dautzenberg, 1937)
The size of the shell varies between 30 mm and 135 mm.
