The presence of Cubans in Italy dates back after 1990s and most of them were married to Italian citizens.
In 2014 in Italy there are 20,000 regular immigrants from Cuba. In 2006 there were 14,000. The three cities with most number of Cubans are: Rome, Milan and Turin. [1]

The Ogaden War, or the Ethio-Somali War, was a military conflict fought between Somalia and Ethiopia from July 1977 to March 1978 over the Ethiopian region of Ogaden. Cuba in the 1976 Summer Olympics won their first bronze medal. In FIVB competitions, the national team won one gold each at World Cup, World Grand Champions Cup, World League and Challenger Cup. Cuba also attained two silver and two bronze World Championship medals and have won the NORCECA Championship 15 times with a 6-peat record.
Taismary Agüero Leiva is a Cuban-born Italian volleyball player. She is the only player to represent two women's volleyball national team to win Major titles.
The Lega Pallavolo Serie A is structured in several levels of importance; the highest of them is SuperLega. Since the early 1980s, many among the best volleyball players in the world play in Superlega and the overall level of competition is considerably high. Nowadays, the SuperLega is widely considered the best league in the world.
Yoandy Leal Hidalgo is a volleyball player who plays as a wing-spiker for Italian club Gas Sales Piacenza. Born in Cuba, he is a former member of the Cuba men's national team (2007–2010) and currently represents Brazil after gained the Brazilian citizenship in June 2015.
Robertlandy Simón Aties is a Cuban volleyball player, a member of Cuba men's national volleyball team from 2005 to 2010 and from 2019 to present day and also Italian club Cucine Lube Civitanova, 2009 NORCECA Champion, silver medalist of the 2010 World Championship, double South Korean Champion.
Leonel Marshall Borges Jr. is a Cuban professional volleyball player. He is an outside hitter, and is well known for his outstanding vertical jump. He played for M. Roma Volley and Pallavolo Piacenza in Italy and currently plays for LPR Piacenza where he wears number 7. He was the youngest member of the Cuban men's indoor volleyball team at the 2000 Olympics, which placed seventh. He is son of retired Cuban volleyball player Leonel Marshall Sr. who competed in the 1976 Summer Olympics and in the 1980 Summer Olympics.
Due to historical associations and geographical location with the United States, Cubans participate in American popular sports. While the majority of Latin American nations embrace soccer as the national game and pastime, in Cuba things are different. The country is not known for its soccer programs internationally. Instead, baseball is the most popular team sport along with volleyball, wrestling, basketball, sailing, boxing, and trekking.
Osmany Juantorena Portuondo is a Cuban-born Italian professional volleyball player, a member of Cuba national volleyball team in 2003–2006 and current member of Italy national volleyball team and Turkish club Ziraat Bankasi. Juantorena was bronze medalist of the 2005 World League and silver medalist 2016 Summer Olympics. He is a multiple winner of the CEV Champions League and FIVB Club World Championship with the Italian club Trentino Volley. Juantorena is the record owner of the highest number of Most Valuable Player awards at FIVB Club World Championship, with 4 times.
Wilfredo León Venero is a Cuban–Polish professional volleyball player. He was a member of the Cuba national team from 2007 to 2012, and is a current member of the Poland national team and Sir Safety Perugia. A silver medallist at the 2010 World Championship, and a two–time NORCECA Champion.
The 2015 FIVB Volleyball World League was the 26th edition of the annual men's international volleyball tournament, played from 16 May to 19 July 2015. The tournament featured a record 32 participating countries from 5 confederations. The teams were divided into 3 groups and 8 pools. The Group 1 Final Round which served as the volleyball test event of the 2016 Summer Olympics was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Yoana Palacio Mahmudova born 6 October 1990) is a Cuban-born Azerbaijani female volleyball player. She was part of the Cuba women's national volleyball team at the 2010 FIVB World Championship in Japan. She won the silver medal in the 2011 Pan American Games being selected Best Spiker and Most Valuable Player and twice won the bronze medal in the NORCECA Continental Championship, in 2009 and 2011.
The FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship is an international volleyball competition contested by the senior women's national teams of the members of Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB), the sport's global governing body. The initial gap between championships was variable, but since 1970 they have been awarded every four years. The tournament will be held biannually starting in 2025.

The FIVB Volleyball Women's World Cup is an international volleyball competition contested by the senior women's national teams of the members of Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB), the sport's global governing body. Initially the tournament was played in the year following the Olympic Games, but since 1991 the World Cup has been awarded in the year preceding the Olympic Games. The current champion is China, which won its fifth title at the 2019 tournament.
