"DM" [note 1] [1] is a song recorded by South Korean girl group Fromis 9 for their fourth extended play Midnight Guest . It was released as the lead single on January 17, 2022, by Pledis Entertainment.
On December 15, 2021, Pledis Entertainment announced that Fromis 9 would be releasing a new extended play in January 2022. [2] On December 30, it was announced the extended play, titled Midnight Guest, would be released on January 17, 2022. A concept trailer was also released in the same day. [3] On January 10, the track listing was released with "DM" announced as the lead single. [4] On January 11, the highlight medley video for Midnight Guest was released. [5] On January 13, the sound source and portion of the choreography was released on TikTok. [6] On January 15 and 16, the teaser music video was released. "DM" was written by Cho Su-jin and Gu Tae-woo, composed by Lee Woo-min "collapsedone", Justin Reinstein, Louise Frick Sveen, and Caroline Gustavsson, and arranged by Lee and Reinstein. [9] Musically, the song is described as a pop song with "faint chord progression and funky bassline" with lyrics about "the excitement of the moment when Fromis 9, who succeeded in escaping at dawn, approaches the person [they] likes and boldly confesses [their] love". [10] "DM" was composed in the key of B minor, with a tempo of 122 beats per minute. [11]
"DM" debuted at position 57 on South Korea's Gaon Digital Chart in the chart issue dated January 16–22, 2022. [12] The song also debuted at position 3, position 175, and position 1 on Gaon Download Chart, Gaon Streaming Chart, and Gaon BGM Chart, respectively, in the chart issue dated January 16–22, 2022. Prior to the extended play's release, on January 17, 2022, Fromis 9 held a live event online and offline to introduce the extended play and communicate with their fans. [16] Following the release of the extended play, the group performed "DM" on four music programs on the first week: MBC M's Show Champion on January 19, Mnet's M Countdown on January 20, KBS2's Music Bank on January 21, and SBS's Inkigayo on January 23. [17] On the second week of the song's release, the group performed on SBS MTV's The Show on January 25, and MBC M's Show Champion on January 26, where they won first place in both appearances. Hwang Min-hyun, known mononymously as Minhyun, is a South Korean singer, songwriter, and actor. He began his career, debuting as a member of the South Korean boy band NU'EST in March 2012. In 2017, he participated in second season of Produce 101 and finished ninth place, becoming a member of Wanna One. Following Wanna One's disbandment, Hwang returned to NU'EST, remaining until the group's disbandment in 2022. He is a solo artist and actor signed under Pledis Entertainment.
Fromis 9 is a South Korean girl group formed by CJ E&M through the 2017 reality show Idol School. The group is composed of eight members: Roh Ji-sun, Song Ha-young, Lee Sae-rom, Lee Chae-young, Lee Na-gyung, Park Ji-won, Lee Seo-yeon, and Baek Ji-heon. Originally a nine-piece group, Jang Gyu-ri departed the group on July 31, 2022.
Jang Gyu-ri is a South Korean actress and former singer. She finished ninth in Mnet's girl group survival show Idol School, becoming a member of the resulting girl group Fromis 9. She gained more recognition after starring in the television series It's Okay to Not Be Okay (2020). Jang left Fromis 9 and Pledis Entertainment after her contract with the company expired.
Kim Jae-hwan, known mononymously as Jaehwan (재환), is a South Korean singer-songwriter, known for finishing fourth in Produce 101. He is a former member of the South Korean boy group Wanna One. As the group promoted for a year and a half, it achieved both critical and commercial success with all four of its albums topping South Korea's Gaon Album Chart and all five of its lead singles ranking in the top three of South Korea's Gaon Digital Chart.
