Puerto Rican rapper Daddy Yankee has released 98 music videos (as a lead or a featured act) and one film. His first music videos were directed for various underground mixtapes during the 1990s decade, in which he appeared as a guest artist. [1] No videos were filmed for his debut studio album No Mercy (1995). Three clips were filmed for his second studio album El Cangri.com (2002), including "Latigazo", directed by Puerto Rican rapper and producer Eddie Dee, which introduced his music in New York City and Miami in the United States. [2] In 2002, he made a brief appearance in the documentary Big Pun: Still Not a Player.
Four music videos were filmed for Daddy Yankee's third studio album Barrio Fino (2004). Puerto Rican directors Carlos Pérez and Kacho López-Mari directed videos for "Gasolina", "King Daddy" and "No Me Dejes Solo". Perez also directed videos "Lo Que Pasó, Pasó", "Salud y Vida", and "Corazones". That same year, Daddy Yankee made his acting debut playing Bimbo in the film Vampiros. [3] Carlos Pérez and Dominican filmmaker Jessy Terrero directed music videos for "Rompe" and "Gangsta Zone", as well as singles for Daddy Yankee's live album Barrio Fino en Directo (2005). "Rompe" garnered a nomination for an MTV Video Music Award for Best Hip-Hop Video at the 23rd MTV Video Music Awards. [4] Carlos Pérez directed the music videos for "Mensaje de Estado" and "Ella Me Levanto" from the rapper's fourth studio album El Cartel: The Big Boss (2007), while two versions of the single "Impacto" were directed by American filmmakers The Saline Project.
In 2008, Daddy Yankee played the protagonist Edgar "Dinero" in the film Talento de Barrio , in which he also served as executive producer. [5] Four music videos were filmed for the film's soundtrack, including "Pose" and "Somos de Calle", directed by Jessy Terrero and George Rivera, respectively. Between 2009 and 2010, five music videos were shot for his fifth studio album Mundial . Carlos Pérez directed three clips, including "Grito Mundial" and "Descontrol", while George Rivera directed "El Ritmo No Perdona (Prende)" with Louanson Alers and "La Despedida" with Juan Esteban Suárez.
Daddy Yankee's sixth studio album Prestige (2012) spawned eight music videos. Puerto Rican director Carlos Martin shot three of them, including "Lovumba", and Puerto Rican director José "Javy" Ferrer filmed "El Amante". Carlos Pérez directed the clips for "Ven Conmigo" and "Pasarela", while Jessy Terrero handled direction for "Limbo" and "La Noche de Los Dos". Ferrer directed the clip for "La Rompe Carros" and Puerto Rican filmmaker Christian Suau directed "La Nueva y La Ex" from Daddy Yankee's mixtape King Daddy (2013).
In 2017, Daddy Yankee starred in the video for his and Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi's collaboration, "Despacito", which was directed by Carlos Pérez and was shot in San Juan, Puerto Rico. [6] The clip is the most-viewed YouTube video since August 2017 and has received more than five billion views on the site. [7] It also became the first YouTube video to receive three, four, and five billion views [8] [9] [10] and the fastest video to reach two billion views in 154 days. [11] The clip garnered a Latin Grammy Award for Best Short Form Music Video at the 18th Latin Grammy Awards and a Billboard Music Award for Top Streaming Song (Video) at the 25th Billboard Music Awards. Reggaeton, is a modern style of popular music that originated in Puerto Rico during the late 1990s. It rose to prominence in the late 1990s and early 2000s through a plethora of Puerto Rican musicians. Reggaeton has been influenced by Panama's Spanish reggae, and which rose to prominence in the late 1990s and early 2000s through a plethora of Puerto Rican musicians. It has been popularized and dominated by artists from Puerto Rico since the early 1990s.
Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez, known professionally as Daddy Yankee, is a Puerto Rican rapper and singer who rose to worldwide prominence in 2004 with the song "Gasolina". Dubbed the "King of Reggaeton", he is often cited as an influence by other Hispanic urban performers. He retired on December 3, 2023, after completing his final stage performance on his "La Meta" tour in Puerto Rico.
Luis Alfonso Rodríguez López-Cepero, known by his stage name Luis Fonsi, is a Puerto Rican singer. He is known for his soulful and dance oriented songs, most notably 2017's "Despacito".
Nick Rivera Caminero, known by his stage name Nicky Jam, is an American-Colombian singer, songwriter and record producer. He is best known for hits such as "X", "Travesuras", "En la Cama", "Te Busco", "El Perdón", "Hasta el Amanecer", and "El Amante"; the later three are from his 2017 album Fénix. He has frequently collaborated with other Latin artists such as Daddy Yankee, J Balvin, Ozuna, Plan B and Anuel AA. While his early music exemplified traditional fast-paced reggaeton, his newer compositions place more emphasis on sung vocals and romantic lyrics.
King Daddy, also known as Imperio Nazza: King Daddy Edition, is a mixtape by Puerto Rican rapper Daddy Yankee, released independently on October 29, 2013 by his label El Cartel Records, a year after his seventh studio album, Prestige. King Daddy is a "hardcore reggaeton" record made for the genre's "lovers" and features collaborations with Arcángel, Divino, Farruko, J Álvarez, and Yandel. Daddy Yankee co-wrote and co-produced all 11 tracks with Benny Benni and Los de la Nazza, respectively; it is his last album produced by the latter, who left El Cartel Records in 2014.
El Disco Duro is an unreleased and later cancelled studio album by Puerto Rican rapper Daddy Yankee. It was originally scheduled to be released during early 2017 under its original title King Daddy II: Elemento DY, a sequel to his previous album King Daddy, produced by Los de la Nazza, a production duo that worked with Daddy Yankee from 2007 to 2014. The album was to include "Sígueme y Te Sigo", "Dura", "Vaivén" and "Shaky Shaky" as singles, which were released between March 2015 and April 2016.
"Despacito" is a song by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi featuring Puerto Rican rapper and singer Daddy Yankee as the lead single from Fonsi's 2019 studio album Vida. Released on January 13, 2017, the song was written by Fonsi, Erika Ender and Daddy Yankee, and produced by Mauricio Rengifo and Andrés Torres. "Yo Contra Ti" is a song by Puerto Rican rapper Daddy Yankee featuring the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra. It was composed for a breast cancer campaign in partnership with foundations Susan G. Komen Puerto Rico and J. Walter Thompson. The song was released on September 1, 2017 accompanied by a music video directed by Kacho López and filmed at a Comprehensive Cancer Center in Puerto Rico. The clip shows a woman with breast cancer being injected during a chemotherapy process which gives her strength, proceeding to stand up and lip-sync the lyrics while Daddy Yankee performs the track. The song was written by Daddy Yankee and was produced by Echo, with additional production by Beatboy and Daddy Yankee.
Carlos Enrique Ortiz Rivera, known professionally as Chris Jedi or Chris Jeday, is a Puerto Rican record producer. He is a 7-time nominee and two time Latin Grammy Award winner for his music videos “Ojos Color Sol” and “Loco de Amor” (Juanes). His second collaboration with Juanes titled Mis Planes son Amarte, got López Mari his 6th Latin Grammy nomination and his 4th for Best Music Video, Long Form. His music video/documentary "El Apagón - Aquí vive gente" for Bad Bunny was nominated at The Shots Awards of the Americas 2023 in the video of the year category and was shortlisted at Cannes Lions 70 in Cannes, France in 2023. The song was released as a single on January 24, 2019, by El Cartel Records alongside a music video directed by Marlon Peña and filmed in Los Angeles and Toronto, which features a Memoji (Animoji) of Daddy Yankee dancing with a crew. The song is a reimagination of Snow's "Informer". The song was written by Daddy Yankee, Snow, Michael Grier, Edmond Leary, MC Shan, Terri Moltke, and Play-N-Skillz, and was produced by American production duo Play-N-Skillz and co-produced by David "Scott Summers" Macias. Legendaddy is the eighth studio album by Puerto Rican rapper Daddy Yankee, released on March 24, 2022 by El Cartel Records, Universal Music Group and Republic Records. Published 10 years after his previous studio album, Legendaddy is Daddy Yankee's last record, as he announced that he would retire from music after the end of his farewell concert tour, La Última Vuelta, in 2023. He decided to retire while working on the album, as he felt accomplished and wanted to enjoy everything he had achieved with his career. It is his first and only album released directly under Universal, rather than its Latin division, after signing a multimillionaire global distribution deal in 2020.
La Última Vuelta World Tour was the eighth and farewell concert tour by Puerto Rican rapper and singer Daddy Yankee, in support of his seventh and final studio album Legendaddy (2022). Comprising 89 shows, the tour began on July 16, 2022, in Torremolinos, Spain and concluded on December 22, 2022, in Miami, Florida. It visited North America twice while making a one-month-lasting stop in South America, as well as a single European show in Spain as part of a music festival.
