"Dami Duro" is a song by Nigerian singer Davido. It was released as the second single from his debut studio album, Omo Baba Olowo (2012). [2] It peaked at number 1 on Gold Myne's list of the top 10 songs of 2012, surpassing Iyanya's "Kukere". [3] "Dami Duro" won Hottest Single of the Year at the 2012 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. [4] It was nominated for Best Pop Single and Song of the Year at The Headies 2012. [5] The music video for the song won Most Gifted Newcomer Video of the Year and was nominated for Most Gifted Dance Video of the Year at the 2012 Channel O Music Video Awards. [6] [7] The music video was also nominated for Best African Act Video at the 2012 4Syte TV Music Video Awards. Remix

The remix of "Dami Duro" features Senegalese American singer Akon. In a brief interview with Blue Revolution Entertainment in Miami, Davido said the remix of "Dami Duro" was recorded in May 2012. [10] [11] [12] A writer for Africa Public commended both artists for their work on the remix, saying, "I like the new verse, it gave a new vibe to the track, plus I couldn't easily tell which voice belonged to Davido and which one belonged to Akon. Apart from the fact that auto tune makes their voice sound more similar; Akon actually did well when it came to the Yoruba aspect." [13]

Music video, impact and live performances

The music video for "Dami Duro" was released on January 8, 2012. It was directed in Lagos by Clarence Peters and was released during the Occupy Nigeria protests. [14] [15]

The popularity of "Dami Duro" extended to the political world. Former Oyo State governor Abiola Ajimobi sang the song while giving a speech at the University of Ibadan. [16] In December 2013, Davido performed "Dami Duro" at a concert sponsored by a brewing company. The concert was held at the Kyadondo Rugby Club in Kampala and featured an additional performance by Jose Chameleon. During his performance, Davido paid tribute to the late Nelson Mandela. [17]

It helped popularize Azonto, a Ghanaian music genre and dance. It peaked at number 19 on the Afribiz Top 100 chart. Wizkid performed the song at Chris Brown's concert, which occurred at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos. Chris Brown also talked about the dance on 106 & Park and credited Wizkid for teaching him.

He rose to fame after winning the first season of Project Fame West Africa, and is best known for his hit single "Kukere". He released his debut studio album My Story in 2009; it was supported by the singles "No Time" and "Love Truly". Iyanya co-founded the record label Made Men Music Group with Ubi Franklin in 2011. His second studio album, titled Desire, was released in February 2013. It supported by the singles "Kukere", "Ur Waist", "Flavour", "Sexy Mama", and "Jombolo". Omo Baba Olowo is the debut studio album by Nigerian singer Davido. It was released by HKN Music on July 17, 2012, and is a mixture of Afrobeats and hip hop. The album was produced by Jay Sleek, Maleek Berry, GospelOnDeBeatz, Spellz, Dokta Frabz, Mr. Chidoo, Theory Soundz and Shizzi. Omo Baba Olowo features collaborations with Naeto C, Sina Rambo, B-Red, Kayswitch, Ice Prince, May D and 2 Face Idibia. It produced the singles "Back When", "Dami Duro", "Ekuro", "Overseas", "All of You", "Gbon Gbon", and "Feel Alright".

Patrick Nnaemeka Okorie, better known by his stage name Patoranking, is a Nigerian reggae-dancehall singer and songwriter. Born and raised in Ebute Metta community of Lagos, he grew up sharing one room with his parents and five siblings. Oluwatosin Oluwole Ajibade, better known by his stage name Mr Eazi, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record executive. He is the pioneer of Banku music, a fusion of sound he describes as a mixture of Ghanaian highlife and Nigerian chord progressions and patterns. Mr Eazi relocated to Kumasi in 2008 and enrolled at KNUST, where he began booking artists to perform at college parties. The discography of Davido, a Nigerian Afrobeats singer, consists of four studio albums, one EP, and thirty singles. Davido released his first album titled Omo Baba Olowo In 2011 at the age of 19, which contains 5 singles and hit song Dami Duro. The album won Album of the Year at The Headies 2013, he released the five-track EP Son of Mercy, his first and only EP till date which was supported by the singles "Gbagbe Oshi", "How Long", "Coolest Kid in Africa"; and includes guest appearances by Simi, Tinashe and Nasty C. His second studio album A Good Time was released in 2019; supported by hit singles "If", "Fall", "Assurance", "Blow My Mind" and "Risky". "Fall" was a viral hit, becoming one of the top-100-most-Shazam-searched singles in America in January 2019, and was a top-10 record on Shazam in New York. Afrobeats is an umbrella term to describe popular music from West Africa and the diaspora that initially developed in Nigeria, Ghana, and the UK in the 2000s and 2010s. Afrobeats is less of a style per se, and more of a descriptor for the fusion of sounds flowing majorly out of Nigeria. Genres such as hiplife, jùjú music, highlife and naija beats, among others, were amalgamated under the "Afrobeats" umbrella.
