Vice Admiral Augustus John Hervey,3rd Earl of Bristol,PC was a Royal Navy officer and politician. He commanded the sixth-rate HMS Phoenix at the Battle of Minorca in May 1756 as well as the third-rate HMS Dragon at the Capture of Belle Île in June 1761,the Invasion of Martinique in January 1762 and the Battle of Havana in June 1762 during the Seven Years' War. He went on to be Chief Secretary for Ireland and then First Naval Lord.
Hervey Bay is a city on the coast of the Fraser Coast Region of Queensland,Australia. The city is situated approximately 290 kilometres (180 mi) or 3½hours' highway drive north of the state capital,Brisbane. It is located on the bay of the same name open to the Coral Sea between the Queensland mainland and nearby K'gari. The local economy relies on tourism which is based primarily around whale watching in Platypus Bay to the north,ferry access to K'gari,accessible recreational fishing and boating and the natural north facing,calm beaches with wide undeveloped foreshore zones. In October 2019,Hervey Bay was named the First Whale Heritage Site in the world by the World Cetacean Alliance,for its commitment to and practices of sustainable whale and dolphin watching.
The Great Sandy Strait is a strait in the Australian state of Queensland of 70 kilometres (43 mi) length which separates mainland Queensland from K'gari. It is also a locality in the Fraser Coast Region local government area. To the north of the strait is Hervey Bay. In the 2021 census,Great Sandy Strait had "no people or a very low population".

The City of Hervey Bay was a local government area located in the Wide Bay–Burnett region of Queensland,Australia,containing the urban centre of Hervey Bay as well as the northern half of Fraser Island. The City covered an area of 2,356.3 square kilometres (909.8 sq mi),and existed as a local government entity in various forms from 1879 until 2008,when it was amalgamated with the City of Maryborough,Shire of Woocoo and the 1st and 2nd divisions of the Shire of Tiaro to form the Fraser Coast Region.

It was created in 2008 from a merger of the Cities of Maryborough and Hervey Bay and the Shires of Woocoo and most of Tiaro. Hervey Bay is a bay of the Coral Sea in the Bundaberg Region and Fraser Coast Region of Queensland,Australia. The bay covers 4,000 square kilometres (1,500 sq mi) with a main opening facing northwards. The northern end of the bay is about 80 km wide and its average depth is about 20 metres. In the south of the bay lies the Great Sandy Strait. The Mary River,Burrum River and Burnett River flow into the bay. Hervey Bay is partly protected from oceanic swells by the southern extension of the Great Barrier Reef. To the east of the bay is Fraser Island.
Adrian Tantari is an Australian politician,a member of the Labor Party,and was elected as the representative of Hervey Bay,Queensland,at the 2020 Queensland state election. The seat of Hervey Bay has had three Australian Labor Party,a One Nation Party and a National/Liberal National Party members since its inception. At the 2020 election,the seat was considered a "safe" seat for the Liberal National Party of Queensland,who had held the seat since 2009. He lost the seat at the 2024 Queensland State election.
