He had a long involvement with the Australian Labor Party,which included a position as National Secretary of Young Labor in 1995. In the 2006 Queensland state election,he was elected to the safe Labor seat of Stafford,which he represented until being defeated in the 2012 Queensland state election. Hinchliffe previously served as a cabinet minister in the Bligh Ministry

The United Australia Party (UAP),formerly known as Clive Palmer's United Australia Party and the Palmer United Party (PUP),is a currently deregistered Australian political party formed by mining magnate Clive Palmer in April 2013. The party was deregistered by the Australian Electoral Commission in 2017,revived and re-registered in 2018,and voluntarily deregistered in 2022. The party fielded candidates in all 150 House of Representatives seats at the 2013 federal election. Palmer,the party's leader,was elected to the Division of Fairfax and it reached a peak of three senators following the rerun of the Western Australian senate election in 2014. A by-election was conducted for the Queensland Legislative Assembly seat of Stafford on 19 July 2014 following 23 May resignation of LNP MP Chris Davis. The LNP won Stafford from Labor at the 2012 election with 57.1 percent of the two-party vote from a 14.4-point two-party swing. The 2014 Redcliffe by-election saw a 17.2-point two-party swing to Labor. Analysts predicted a Labor win with a 10–12-point two-party swing. Labor candidate Anthony Lynham won the by-election with a 62 percent two-party vote from a 19.1-point two-party swing.

He was the Queensland Minister for Natural Resources,Mines and Energy. Lynham was an oral and maxillofacial surgeon.

Robert John Pyne is an Australian politician,currently serving as a Cairns Region councillor as a member of the Socialist Alliance. He was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from January 2015 until November 2017,representing the electorate of Cairns. Pyne was elected for the Australian Labor Party,but resigned to sit as an independent in March 2016;he then lost his seat to a Labor candidate at the 2017 election. The 2020 Queensland state election was held on 31 October to elect all 93 members to the Legislative Assembly of Queensland. The Labor Party was returned to government for a third-term,led by incumbent premier Annastacia Palaszczuk. With 47 seats needed to form a majority government,Labor won 52 seats,including all but five in Brisbane,while the Liberal National Party won 34 seats and formed opposition. On the crossbench,Katter's Australian Party retained its 3 seats,the Queensland Greens picked up South Brisbane for a total of 2,Pauline Hanson's One Nation retained Mirani and independent Sandy Bolton retained her seat of Noosa.
