David Hardy Lemieux (born November 8, 1970) is an audio and film archivist. He is a Grammy, Juno, and Gemini Award voting member. He is the audiovisual archivist and legacy manager for the Grateful Dead. [1]
Lemieux is originally from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and was educated at Carleton University in Ottawa (BA in history), Concordia University in Montreal (BFA in film studies) [2] and the University of East Anglia in Norwich, UK (MA in film archiving).
He has been working as the Grateful Dead's audiovisual archivist and CD/DVD producer since September 1999. He was put in charge of the Grateful Dead's vault after the August 1999 passing of original Grateful Dead tape archivist Dick Latvala. Lemieux has produced scores of Grateful Dead CD and DVD releases since 2000, including 46 of the Dead's record-setting 60 Billboard Top 40 albums. The Dave's Picks series is titled after Lemieux. [3] He has also produced several CD releases by Jerry Garcia.
Lemieux hosts a daily radio show on The Grateful Dead Channel on SiriusXM Satellite Radio (Channel 23)/Dish Network (Channel 6023), Today in Grateful Dead History, in which he selects a segment of music from that day in the Grateful Dead's history and explains its historical context and other information relating to the selection. He has hosted and produced more than 5,500 shows since its debut in September 2007.
When Lemieux turned 51 in 2021, he began running, which he had never done before in any capacity. In his first 18 months of competitive running from May 2022 to October 2023, Lemieux completed three marathons, 15 half marathons, and several 10K races. Lemieux is vegan.[ citation needed ]
Sunshine Daydream is a music documentary film, starring the rock band the Grateful Dead. It was shot at their August 27, 1972 concert at the Old Renaissance Faire Grounds in Veneta, Oregon. Unreleased for many years, the film was sometimes shown at small film festivals, and bootleg recordings of it circulated on VHS and DVD, and as digital downloads. A digitally remastered and reedited official version of the film was released on August 1, 2013, showing only one time in selected theaters as that year's edition of the Grateful Dead Meet-Up at the Movies. It was screened with Grateful Days, a new documentary short that includes interviews with some of the concert attendees. Sunshine Daydream was released on DVD and Blu-ray on September 17, 2013.
Richard Allan Latvala was an American tape archivist for the Grateful Dead. He started the CD series Dick's Picks, a series that selects live music from Grateful Dead concerts. The first volume of Dick's Picks was released in 1993. The series continued after Latvala's death in 1999 until 2005, with later volumes being selected by David Lemieux. In 2012, the series inspired a spin-off officially known as Dave's Picks.
View from the Vault, Volume Two is the second entry in the "View from the Vault" series by the Grateful Dead. It was released simultaneously as a three-disk CD and a one-disk DVD. This volume features the June 14, 1991 concert at Robert F. Kennedy Stadium in Washington, D.C., and bonus material from a show at the same venue on July 12, 1990. It is the only Grateful Dead video release featuring Vince Welnick and Bruce Hornsby.
Truckin' Up to Buffalo is a double CD soundtrack to the DVD video of the same name by the Grateful Dead. It was recorded at Rich Stadium in Orchard Park on July 4, 1989. There are no differences in the track listings of the CD and DVD versions. Two tracks had already been released: "All Along the Watchtower" was included in the compilation of Dylan songs, Postcards of the Hanging, and "Man Smart " was released on Weir Here – The Best of Bob Weir. The album title is taken from a line in the band's song "Truckin'", though it was not included in the setlist that night.
Dick's Picks Volume 35 is the 35th installment of the Dick's Pick's series of Grateful Dead concert recordings. It is a four-CD set that contains the complete shows recorded on August 7, 1971 at Golden Hall in San Diego, California, and on August 24, 1971 at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago, Illinois. It also includes bonus tracks from August 6, 1971, at the Hollywood Palladium in Hollywood, California.

He is also noted for his music loop work, often creating spontaneous compositions in performance. He is the co-author of the book Playing in the Band: An Oral and Visual Portrait of the Grateful Dead, and the host of the weekly syndicated radio show The Grateful Dead Hour. He currently co-hosts a radio show with Gary Lambert on Sirius XM's The Grateful Dead Channel called Tales from the Golden Road, a call-in show about the Grateful Dead.

Europe '72 Volume 2 is a live album by the rock band the Grateful Dead. It is a two-CD set which features 20 tracks from the band's Spring 1972 tour of Europe. As such, it represents a belated sequel to the band's original three-LP 1972 release, Europe '72. Around the time of the production of the massive Europe '72: The Complete Recordings box set in 2011, Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux was charged with the task of developing this follow-up compilation, nearly four decades later, without repeating any of the songs that appeared on Europe '72. As with the box set, all of the music for this CD was remastered from the original 16-track tapes and encoded with HDCD specifications. The artwork for the release is by Stanley Mouse, who, along with his late partner, Alton Kelley, created the recognizable images for the original release.
Dave's Picks Volume 1 is a three-CD live album by the band the Grateful Dead. It was recorded on May 25, 1977, at the Mosque in Richmond, Virginia, and contains the complete concert from that date. It was released on February 1, 2012.
All the Years Combine: The DVD Collection is a box set of videos by the rock band the Grateful Dead. It contains 14 DVDs, comprising 12 previously released titles plus bonus material. It also includes a 40-page booklet of liner notes, essays, and photos. It was released by Shout! Factory on April 17, 2012.
Pure Jerry: Merriweather Post Pavilion, September 1 & 2, 1989 is a four-CD live album by the Jerry Garcia Band. It contains two complete concerts, recorded on September 1 and 2, 1989, at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland. The fifth in the Pure Jerry series of archival concert albums, it was released on March 25, 2005.
Pure Jerry: Bay Area 1978 is a two-CD live album by the Jerry Garcia Band. It contains selections from four concerts performed in the San Francisco Bay Area in February and June 1978. The ninth and last entry in the Pure Jerry series of archival concert albums, it was released on August 31, 2009.
Family Dog at the Great Highway, San Francisco, CA 4/18/70 is a live album by the rock band the Grateful Dead. It was recorded at the Family Dog concert hall in San Francisco on April 18, 1970. It was released by Rhino Records on November 29, 2013. The album was produced as a single-disc CD, and also as a two-disc vinyl LP, the latter in a limited audiophile edition of 7,500 copies.
Dave's Picks Volume 11 is a three-CD live album by the rock band the Grateful Dead. It contains the complete concert recorded on November 17, 1972 at the Century II Convention Center in Wichita, Kansas. It was produced as a limited edition of 14,000 numbered copies, and was released by Rhino Records on August 1, 2014.
30 Trips Around the Sun: The Definitive Live Story 1965–1995 is a four-CD live album by the rock band the Grateful Dead. It contains 30 songs recorded in concert—one from each of the years 1966 through 1995—plus one song recorded in a 1965 studio session. All of the tracks are selected from the 80-CD box set 30 Trips Around the Sun, which contains 30 previously unreleased complete shows. The album was released on September 18, 2015. A chronological sampling format was also used for the 5-disc set So Many Roads (1965–1995).
May 1977: Get Shown the Light is a live album by the American rock band the Grateful Dead. It contains four consecutive complete concerts, recorded on May 5, 7, 8, and 9, 1977, on eleven CDs. It was released on May 5, 2017.

It contains the complete concert recorded at the PNE Garden Auditorium in Vancouver, British Columbia, on July 29, 1966. It also includes four songs recorded at the same venue on the following day. It was produced as a two-disc vinyl LP in a limited edition of 6,600 copies. It was released on April 22, 2017, in conjunction with Record Store Day.

It contains the complete concert recorded at the Philadelphia Civic Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on April 20, 1984. It also includes bonus tracks comprising most of the second set of the concert recorded at the same venue on the previous night. It was released on July 31, 2020, in a limited edition of 22,000 copies.
