Formerly the Warlocks is a live album by the rock band the Grateful Dead. It contains two complete concerts on six CDs. It was recorded on October 8 and 9, 1989, at the Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Virginia. It was released on September 7, 2010. [1] [2] [3]
For the 1989 Hampton Coliseum shows, the band wanted to maintain a low profile, so the venue was not included as part of the regular ticket sale for the East Coast fall tour. Instead, tickets went on sale at local outlets ten days before the concerts, with the band billed as "Formerly the Warlocks" instead of the Grateful Dead. When the band came to town, the marquee of the Coliseum read "The Warlocks", which had been the Grateful Dead's original name for a few months in 1965. [2] [4]
The two concerts featured several songs that the band had not played live for some time. They had not performed "Help on the Way" since 1985, "Dark Star" since 1984, and "Attics of My Life" since 1972. [4] [5] [6]
In a 1993 poll of Grateful Dead tape traders, the October 9, 1989 show was ranked number 4 on the list of all-time favorite Dead concert tapes, and the October 8 show also appeared on the list. [7]
The 1989 Hampton concerts were recorded on 24-track analog tapes. The album was created by digitally remixing the original tapes into HDCD format. This provides enhanced sound quality when played on CD players with HDCD technology, and is fully compatible with conventional CD players. [8]
Formerly the Warlocks is packaged in a wooden box reminiscent of a cigar box. In addition to the six CDs, it contains an accordion-fold booklet with liner notes and photos of the concerts. It also includes a photo of the Hampton Coliseum marquee listing the band as "The Warlocks", a Hampton Coliseum postcard with the set list of the second show, and a Grateful Dead Halloween themed button. Additionally, it contains reproductions of tickets to both concerts, a handout of information for concert attendees, and an article about the Grateful Dead from the October 22, 1989 edition of The Charlotte Observer .

Infrared Roses is a live compilation album by the Grateful Dead. It is a conglomeration of their famous improvisational segments "Drums" and "Space."
Without a Net is a recording of the Grateful Dead in concert. It compiles performances from October 1989 to April 1990, and was released in September 1990. The album simulates the progression of an actual Grateful Dead concert and was certified Gold by the RIAA in November 1990.
Dozin' at the Knick is a recording of the Grateful Dead performing live in concert at the Knickerbocker Arena in Albany, New York. It was recorded March 24–26, 1990, and was released in 1996. The album was certified Gold by the RIAA on March 28, 2000. Fans of the Dead frequently refer to the album as "Dosin" at the Knick.
Download Series Volume 5 is a live album by the rock band the Grateful Dead. It includes the complete concert recorded on March 27, 1988, at the Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Virginia. It was released as a digital download on September 6, 2005.
Download Series Volume 7 is a live album by the rock band the Grateful Dead. It was released as a digital download on November 1, 2005 and is a three disc compilation of the band performing in 1980 on September 3 at Springfield Civic Center in Springfield, Massachusetts and September 4 at Providence Civic Center in Providence, Rhode Island. Discs one and two come from September 3 and disc three comes from the second set on September 4.
Download Series Volume 9 is a live album by the rock band the Grateful Dead. It was released on January 3, 2006 as a digital download. It contains two complete concerts on four discs – April 2 and 3, 1989 at Pittsburgh's Civic Arena.
Nightfall of Diamonds is a double live album by the Grateful Dead released in 2001. It was recorded on October 16, 1989 at Meadowlands Arena in East Rutherford and includes the full concert. This was the final date of a five-day run at the venue.
Dick's Picks Volume 21 is the 21st live album in the Dick's Picks series of releases by the Grateful Dead. It contains a complete concert that was recorded on November 1, 1985, at Richmond Coliseum in Richmond, Virginia. It also includes several bonus tracks recorded on September 2, 1980, at the Community War Memorial in Rochester, New York. It was released on March 20, 2001.
Go to Nassau is a two-CD live album by the rock group the Grateful Dead. It was recorded on May 15 and 16, 1980, at Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York. The album, released in 2002, presents half of the songs played on the final two nights of a three-day run at the venue. It is sequenced to represent a prototypical single Dead concert, similarly to Without a Net. The shows were recorded for the King Biscuit Flower Hour and selections were originally broadcast on FM radio stations, on June 22, 1980. The album's title is a syllepsis, referring figuratively to the band's then-current album, Go to Heaven, and literally to the band going to Nassau County to perform.
View from the Vault, Volume Four is the fourth release in the "View from the Vault" series of rock concert recordings by the Grateful Dead. Like the other entries in the series, it was released simultaneously on CD and as a DVD concert video. However, unlike the previous 3-CD volumes, View from the Vault IV is a 4-CD set. This volume contains selections from two consecutive shows in California — July 24, 1987, at Oakland Stadium, and July 26, 1987 at Anaheim Stadium.
Downhill from Here is a concert performance video by the Grateful Dead. It was recorded at Alpine Valley Music Theatre, near East Troy, Wisconsin, in July, 1989. Produced by Len Dell'Amico and Grateful Dead Productions. It was released by Monterey Home Video, on VHS in 1997 and on DVD in 1999, with a running time of 2 hours 30 minutes, and by Pioneer Entertainment, on LaserDisc in 1997.
Road Trips Volume 3 Number 4 is a live album by the rock band the Grateful Dead. The 12th of the Road Trips series of archival releases, it was recorded on May 6, 1980, at Recreation Hall, Pennsylvania State University, State College, Pennsylvania, and on May 7, 1980, at Barton Hall, Cornell University, Ithaca, New York. It was released on September 7, 2010.

30 Trips Around the Sun is an 80-CD live album, packaged as a box set, by the rock band the Grateful Dead. Announced for the celebration of their 50th anniversary, it consists of 30 complete, previously unreleased concerts, with one show per year from 1966 through 1995. Comprising 73 hours of music, the box set is individually numbered and limited to 6,500 copies. It was released on October 7, 2015.

Giants Stadium 1987, 1989, 1991 is a live album by the rock band the Grateful Dead. It contains five complete concerts on 14 CDs. The shows were recorded at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on July 12, 1987, July 9 and 10, 1989, and June 16 and 17, 1991. The album also includes a video of the June 17, 1991 performance, on two DVDs or one Blu-ray disc. It was released on September 27, 2019, in a limited edition of 10,000 numbered copies.
