The Solid South or the Southern bloc was the electoral voting bloc of the states of the Southern United States for issues that were regarded as particularly important to the interests of Democrats in those states. The Southern bloc existed especially between the end of Reconstruction in 1877 and the passage of the Civil Rights Act in 1964. During this period,the Democratic Party overwhelmingly controlled southern state legislatures,and most local,state and federal officeholders in the South were Democrats. During the late 1800s and early 1900s,Southern Democrats disenfranchised blacks in all Southern states,along with a few non-Southern states doing the same as well. This resulted essentially in a one-party system,in which a candidate's victory in Democratic primary elections was tantamount to election to the office itself. White primaries were another means that the Democrats used to consolidate their political power,excluding blacks from voting in primaries.

David Wallace was the sixth governor of the US state of Indiana. The Panic of 1837 occurred just before his election and the previous administration,which he had been part of,had taken on a large public debt. During his term the state entered a severe financial crisis that crippled the state's internal improvement projects. He advocated several measures to delay the inevitable insolvency of the state. The temporary president of the State Senate retains both majority leadership and a seat in the State Senate while acting as lieutenant governor or governor.

John Timothy Griffin is an American lawyer and politician serving as the 57th attorney general of Arkansas. He previously served as the 20th lieutenant governor of Arkansas,from 2015 to 2023. A member of the Republican Party,he previously was the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas between 2006 and 2007 and U.S. Representative for Arkansas's 2nd congressional district from 2011 to 2015. Griffin defeated Democrat John Burkhalter for lieutenant governor in 2014 and served under Governor Asa Hutchinson. In summer 2020,Griffin announced his candidacy for the 2022 Arkansas gubernatorial election,but withdrew from the race in February 2021 to run for Arkansas Attorney General instead.

Arkansas's 2010 general elections were held November 2,2010. Primaries were held May 18,2010 and runoffs,if necessary,were held November 23,2010. Arkansas elected seven constitutional officers,17 of 35 state senate seats,all 100 house seats and 28 district prosecuting attorneys,and voted on one constitutional amendment and one referred question. Non-partisan judicial elections were held the same day as the party primaries for four Supreme Court justices,four appeals circuit court judges,and eight district court judges.

Mark Johnson is an American politician currently serving in the Arkansas Senate from the 15th district. He won the seat unanimously after no other candidate ran against him. He won his primary and will face Democrat David Barber in the general election in his bid for a second term.
Blake Johnson is an American farmer and politician currently serving in the Arkansas Senate from the 20th district. He won the seat after defeating Democrat incumbent Robert F. Thompson 53.8% to 46.2%,thus flipping the district from Democratic to Republican. He and fellow state senator Dan Sullivan swapped districts before their 2022 elections,so Johnson will run in the 21st district for a third term.
