The 1996 United States Senate election in Arkansas was held on November 5, 1996. Incumbent Democratic U.S. Senator David Pryor decided to retire. Republican Tim Hutchinson won the open seat, becoming the first Republican to win a U.S. Senate seat in Arkansas since Reconstruction in 1872 and the first to ever be popularly elected in the state. He was the first to win this seat since 1870. Hutchinson lost re-election in 2002 to David Pryor's son Mark Pryor.

Stephen Allen Womack is an American politician serving as the U.S. representative for Arkansas's 3rd congressional district since 2011. The district, which was once represented by former Senator J. William Fulbright, covers much of northwestern Arkansas, including Fort Smith, Fayetteville, Springdale, and Womack's hometown of Rogers. A member of the Republican Party, Womack was mayor of Rogers before his election to Congress.

Clark Hall is a Democratic politician who served in the Arkansas House of Representatives from 2007 until 2013, representing the 13th District. Hall made an unsuccessful run for the U.S. House of Representatives in 2012. Hall served on the staff of Governor Mike Beebe from 2013 to 2014, Hall served as the mayor of Marvell, Arkansas from 2015 to 2018. Hall became Phillips County Judge in 2017.

Henry "Hank" Wilkins IV is an American politician and a Democratic former member of the Arkansas House of Representatives. He represented District 17 from January 2011 to 2015. Wilkins was consecutively a member of the Arkansas House from January 1999 until January 2001 and the Arkansas Senate from January 2001 until January 2011. He held the District 5 and 8 seats. He was convicted and sentenced for crimes related to bribery.

Larry R. Teague is a former American politician and was a Democratic member of the Arkansas Senate representing District 10, which includes Howard, Montgomery, Pike, and Polk counties and parts of Clark, Hempstead, Nevada, and Sevier counties. He also served as Senate Minority Whip. He was ineligible to seek re-election in 2022 due to term limits. Teague served consecutively in the Arkansas General Assembly from January 2009 until January 2013 in the Senate District 20 seat and from January 1997 through January 2002 in the Arkansas House of Representatives District 19 seat.
