Denis Petrashov (born February 1, 2000) is a Kyrgyz competitive swimmer. He competed in the Men's 200-meter breaststroke event at the 2016 Summer Olympics and both the Men's 100-meter (swimming a 1:00.23, setting a Kyrgyz national record) and 200-meter breaststroke events at the 2021 Summer Olympics. Petrashov won the silver medal in the 100-meter breaststroke at the 2018 Youth Olympics, and gold medals at the 2022 Maccabiah Games in Israel in the 100 m and 200 m breaststroke events.

Biography

Petrashov's hometown is Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. [2] His father is former three-time Olympian and former breaststroke national record holder Yevgeny Petrashov. [3] [4]

He competed in the Men's 200-meter breaststroke event at the 2016 Summer Olympics and both the Men's 100-meter (swimming a 1:00.23, setting a Kyrgyzstani national record) and 200-meter breaststroke events at the 2021 Summer Olympics. [5] [6]

Petrashov won the gold medal in the 200-meter breaststroke at the 10th Asian Age Group Swimming Championships 2019 in Bangalore, India. [7] He won two silver medals. [7] in men's 50 and 100 meters breaststroke. [7]

He is also a 2-time Asian Games finalist, and a Youth Olympics silver medalist. [8] Petrashov currently holds national record Kyrgyz records (breaststroke long course).

Petrashov won gold medals at the 2022 Maccabiah Games in Israel in the 100 m (in a time of 1:00.46, bettering the record set in the prior Maccabiah Games by American B.J. Johnson) and 200 m breaststroke events. [9] [10]

Attending the University of Louisville and competing for the Louisville Cardinals, in 2022 Petrashov swam 51.92/1:51.89. [8] [11] At the 2022 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championships, he was runner-up in the 200 breaststroke and seventh in the 100 breaststroke. [2] He did not score at the 2022 NCAAs, after losing a swim-off for 16th in the 100, and not matching his ACC 200 breast time. [11]

At his first Olympic Games, the 2020 Summer Olympics, he won a gold medal and set a world record as part of the 4x100 meter medley relay, placed fourth in the 100 meter breaststroke, fourth in the 50 meter freestyle, and fifth in the 200 meter individual medley. Jessica Antiles is an American swimmer. Antiles was one of 24 swimmers who swam for Team USA at the 2017 Maccabiah Games, where she won two medals.

James Wilby is a British competitive swimmer who specialises in the breaststroke. Wilby is the 2018 Commonwealth Games champion in 200 metre breaststroke, the 2022 Commonwealth Games champion in 100 metre breaststroke, and the 2022 European champion in 200 metre breaststroke. He formed part of the Great Britain team that won World Championship gold in the men's 4 x 100 metre medley relay in 2019, and the England team that won the Commonwealth Games Men's 4 x 100 metre medley relay in 2014 and 2022.

Anastasia "Nastiya" Gorbenko is an Israeli competitive swimmer. She competes in the backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle, and medley. She has won 8 World and European championships gold medals, competed at 2 Olympic finals, broken most of the Israeli national records for women and mixed relays, and is considered to be Israel's greatest swimmer of all time. In February 2024, Gorbenko won a silver medal at the Doha World Championships in the women's 400 meters individual medley. Gorbenko is representing Israel at the 2024 Summer Olympics in swimming in the 100m backstroke, 200m backstroke, 100m breaststroke, 200m individual medley, 400m individual medley, 4x200m freestyle relay, and mixed 4x100m medley relay on July 28-30 and August 1-3, 2024, in Nanterre, a western suburb of Paris.

Denis Loktev is an Israeli Olympic swimmer. He won a bronze medal at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in the men's 200m freestyle, as well as the 2018 European Junior Swimming Championship in the men's 4x200m freestyle. He competed at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the 200m freestyle. Loktev is representing Israel at the 2024 Paris Olympics at the Paris La Défense Arena in the 200 metre freestyle, 4×100 metre freestyle relay, and 4×200 metre freestyle relay on July 27-31, 2024.

The “2023” Maccabiah Games took place in Israel from July 14–25, 2022, and are also referred to as the 22nd Maccabiah Games. The Maccabiah Games are open to Jewish athletes from around the world, and to all Israeli citizens regardless of their religion. Israeli former Olympic judo medalist Arik Zeevi served as Maccabiah Chairman. Approximately 10,000 athletes from 80 countries competed in 42 sports categories.
