The New York Liberty is an American professional basketball team based in Brooklyn, New York City, which plays in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) as part of the Eastern Conference. The team was founded in 1997 and is one of the eight original franchises of the league. The team is owned by Joe Tsai, the majority owner of the Brooklyn Nets. The team's home games are played at Barclays Center.

Vickie Johnson is a former basketball player and head coach of the Dallas Wings. Johnson is the former head coach of the San Antonio Stars. Upon the sale and relocation of the Stars, Johnson was hired by head coach Bill Laimbeer as an assistant coach of the Las Vegas Aces, the Stars' decedent team.

Tanae Davis-Cain is an American professional basketball player. She played high school basketball for Terrell County in Dawson, Georgia, where she averaged 16.2 points during her senior season and was named the All-Area player of the year by the Albany Herald. Following her graduation, she played college basketball for Florida State from 2005 to 2009. She was the schools 22nd player to score at least 1,000 points during her career and left the school as its all time leader in three point shots made. Davis-Cain was drafted by the Detroit Shock in the third round of the 2009 WNBA draft and later appeared in one game for the team during the 2009 season.

Kiah Irene Stokes is an American-Turkish basketball player for the Las Vegas Aces of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) and Fenerbahçe of the Turkish Super League (KBSL). She was chosen by the New York Liberty with the No.11 pick in the first round of the 2015 WNBA Draft at Mohegan Sun Arena. She played four years at the University of Connecticut where she was part of four consecutive Final Four teams and won three straight national championships, from 2013 to 2015. Prior to enrolling at UConn she played for Linn-Mar High School in Marion, Iowa. She played on the USA Basketball U16 National Team, where she helped the team win the FIBA Americas U16 Championship Gold Medal. She is the daughter of former NBA player Greg Stokes.
Wanisha Marie Smith is an American basketball coach and former player. Smith attended Fairfield High School in Fairfield, Ohio before moving to Riverdale Baptist School in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Following her high school career, she played college basketball at Duke University and played briefly in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) for the Detroit Shock.
Samantha Logic is an American basketball player. She also played for the San Antonio Stars of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). She played college basketball at the University of Iowa. A 5'9" point guard from Racine, Wisconsin, Logic played for the Hawkeyes from 2011 to 2015, earning All-American honors in her senior season. Logic was named a third-team All-American by the Associated Press and a first-team All-American by the United States Basketball Writers Association after averaging 13.4 points, 7.0 rebounds and 8.1 assists per game. Logic also received the Senior CLASS Award for the 2014–15 season.
The 1969–70 Iowa Hawkeyes men's basketball team represented the University of Iowa in intercollegiate basketball during the 1969–70 season. The team was led by Ralph Miller and played their home games at the Iowa Field House. The Hawkeyes finished the season 20–5 and won the Big Ten title with a 14–0 conference record. To date, this is the last outright regular season conference title for the Iowa men's basketball team.

Following her college stay, she played professionally in Germany for four seasons. She became the first Serbian player to play in the WNBA when she appeared in Charlotte Sting's opener of the 1997 WNBA season on 22 June where she scored 3 points in 14 minutes. That ended being her only WNBA game as a back injury that she suffered in the game ended her season. In 1999, she was set to join the Los Angeles Sparks but the deal fell through due to visa problems.
