Deven Thompkins (born December 23, 1999) is an American football wide receiver for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Utah State.

He graduated from Dunbar High School. [1]

College career

Thompkins was a member of the Utah State Aggies for four seasons. As a sophomore, he caught 40 passes. for 536 yards and four touchdowns. [2] Thompkins played in four games during Utah State's COVID-19-shortened 2020 season and had 20 receptions for 214 yards and one touchdown. Following the end of the season, he entered the NCAA transfer portal. [3] Thompkins ultimately decided to return to Utah State for the 2021 season. [4] As a senior, Thompkins caught 102 passes for 1,704 yards with 10 touchdowns and was named first-team All-Mountain West Conference and a third-team All-American by the Associated Press. [5]

Thompkins signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent on May 1, 2022. [7] He was waived on August 30, 2022, and signed to the practice squad the next day. [8] [9] He was promoted to the active roster on December 23. [10] He played in six games during the season, catching five passes while also returning six punts for 61 yards and 12 kickoffs for 263. [11] In the Buccaneers' Wild Card Round loss to the Dallas Cowboys, he returned three kickoffs for 58 yards and three punts for 34. [12]

The 2020 season was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' 45th in the National Football League (NFL) and their second under head coach Bruce Arians. The club acquired long-time New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady in free agency, and traded for Brady's former Patriots teammate, tight end Rob Gronkowski during the offseason. They improved on their 7–9 record from the previous season by finishing 11–5 to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 2007 – though 10 of their 11 wins were against non-playoff teams. They advanced through the playoffs to reach and win Super Bowl LV. They were the first team only having one Pro Bowler to do so since the 2007 Giants, and the first team to play in and win the Super Bowl in their home stadium, Raymond James Stadium. The 2021 season was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' 46th season in the National Football League (NFL) and their third and final season under head coach Bruce Arians. They entered the season as defending Super Bowl champions and were attempting to become the first club to win consecutive Super Bowls since the team's quarterback Tom Brady did so with New England in XXXVIII and XXXIX. They entered the season riding a franchise record eight consecutive wins, which they extended to ten wins until they lost against the Rams. After their Week 16 win over Carolina, the Buccaneers clinched the NFC South division for the first time since 2007. Tampa Bay won a franchise record 13 games in the regular season. On October 3, 2021, during week 4 of the 2021 NFL season, the defending Super Bowl LV champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the hosting New England Patriots by a score of 19–17 on NBC Sunday Night Football. The game was highly anticipated as Tampa Bay quarterback Tom Brady played his first game at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts against his former team, his long-time former coach Bill Belichick, and Patriots owner Robert Kraft. Brady had previously spent 20 seasons with the Patriots between 2000 and 2019, leading New England to a league-tying record of six championships. NBC Sports marketed the game with the tagline "The Return" in promotional material.
