Nathan Carter (born May 22, 2002) is an American football running back for the Michigan State Spartans. He previously played for the UConn Huskies.
Carter attended Bishop Kearney High School in Irondequoit, New York. He committed to the University of Connecticut to play college football. [1]
Carter played at UConn from 2020 to 2022. After redshirting his first year in 2020, he started four of 12 games, rushing for 578 yards on 125 carries with two touchdowns. [2] He played in five games in 2022 as the starter, rushing for 405 yards on 65 carries with one touchdown. [3]
Carter transferred to Michigan State University in 2023. [4] In his first game with Michigan State, he rushed for 113 yards on 18 carries with a touchdown. [5]
Carter is a Christian. He has said, “This platform isn’t for my glorification, it’s for Jesus, and I strive to use it each and every day to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ. And I play the game giving Glory to God in all that I do as an act of worship and thankfulness towards Him.” [6]
The Michigan–Michigan State football rivalry is an American college football rivalry between the University of Michigan Wolverines and the Michigan State University Spartans. The teams first played in 1898 and have met 116 times. The game has now been played uninterrupted, every year since 1945. In 1949 Michigan State was accepted into the Big Ten conference, though it was not until 1953 that the rivalry became a Big Ten conference game, due to protests from the University of Michigan administration. Prior to 1958 all but 6 matchups were played in Ann Arbor. The winner of each year's game receives the Paul Bunyan – Governor of Michigan Trophy, a four-foot wooden statue of a lumberjack that was first presented in 1953 to commemorate Michigan State's beginning football competition as a member of the Big Ten Conference.
Kenneth Leonard "Ki-Jana" Carter is an American former football running back who played in the National Football League (NFL) for eight seasons. He played college football for the Penn State Nittany Lions, where he earned consensus All-American honors and was MVP of the 1995 Rose Bowl. Carter was selected first overall in the 1995 NFL draft by the Cincinnati Bengals, but after suffering a knee tear during his first preseason game, he struggled with injuries for the remainder of his career. Missing most of his five seasons with the Bengals due to injury, Carter played his final three seasons in a limited role for the Washington Redskins and New Orleans Saints.

In their 12th season under head coach Bo Schembechler, the Wolverines compiled a 10–2 record, won the Big Ten Conference championship, defeated Washington in the 1981 Rose Bowl, and outscored all opponents by a total of 322 to 129. The Rose Bowl victory was Schembechler's first in a bowl game, following seven bowl games losses. Dylan McDuffie is an American football running back for the Kansas Jayhawks of the Big 12 Conference. In 2021, he was named to the All-MAC Second Team by Pro Football Network and All-MAC Third Team by the MAC Coaches and Pro Football Focus after rushing for over 1,000 yards and scoring 12 total touchdowns for the Bulls. In high school, he earned All-Western New York honors as both a running back (2016) and linebacker (2017), and was selected as a finalist for the 2016 Connolly Cup. In 2022, he entered his name into the transfer portal twice before deciding to transfer officially in April. He played the 2022–23 season for Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets football, starting the season in a committee situation before eventually falling out the rotation completely. After the season he decided to transfer to use his last year of eligibility as a grad transfer.
