Diane Brooks Dixon is an American politician serving in the California State Assembly. A Republican,she represents the 72nd State Assembly District,which includes Huntington Beach,Newport Beach,Seal Beach,Laguna Hills,Laguna Woods,Lake Forest,Aliso Viejo,and Laguna Beach. [1] She was a former mayor and city councilwoman of Newport Beach,California. [2]
In 2020,Dixon ran for the California State Assembly against first-term Democrat Cottie Petrie-Norris. Dixon lost the general election by a very narrow margin.
In 2022,redistricting lead Petrie-Norris to run in a neighboring district. Dixon won the election. [3]

In the fall of 2005,a special election was held in California's 48th congressional district to choose a United States representative to replace Republican Christopher Cox,who resigned effective August 2,2005,to become Chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. A Special primary election was held on October 4. Because no candidate received more than 50% of the vote,a runoff general election took place on December 6,2005. The top vote getter from each party moved to the runoff contest,which only required a candidate to receive a plurality of the vote. Republican candidate John Campbell ultimately won the runoff with only 44% of the vote,as there were three major candidates,rather than the usual two.
Diane Lynn Harkey is an American politician who served as a member of the California State Board of Equalization,representing its fourth district from 2015 to 2019. A member of the Republican Party,she was previously elected to the Dana Point City Council (2004–2008),including a stint as Mayor of Dana Point (2007–2008),as well as the California State Assembly (2008–2014).
