Diarmuid Dalton is an Irish musician and songwriter. He is best known as the bass guitarist of post-metal bands, Jesu and Iroha. Dalton frequently collaborates with Justin Broadrick, who is the founder of Godflesh and Jesu.

Biography

Irish born, Diarmuid Dalton grew up in Ireland and Birmingham. He was friends with G. C. Green and Paul Neville prior to their involvement with Fall of Because and Godflesh and met with Broadrick in 1984. [1] In between 1988 and 1997, Dalton was a member of the industrial rock group Cable Regime, which featured Neville and Steve Hough. [2] In 1996, he contributed to Broadrick's dark ambient project Final, performing on the albums, 2 (1996) and Solaris (1998). [3] He played Moog synthesizer and electronics on the last track of Godflesh's 2001 studio album, Hymns . [4]

In 2005, Dalton and Swans drummer Ted Parsons joined to Broadrick's post-Godflesh band Jesu, which took its name from the Godflesh track on which he performed. He was initially featured on the band's debut album, Jesu (2004). His further releases with Jesu included Silver EP (2005) [5] and Conqueror (2007), [6] In 2007, Dalton didn't perform at Jesu's North American tour due to being refused a work permit for the United States. For the tour, he was substituted by Dave Cochrane of Head of David and God. [7] [8] Dalton also didn't perform on Ascension (2011) and Everyday I Get Closer to the Light from Which I Came (2013), on which Broadrick played the all instruments. [9]

From the 2006 onwards, Dalton continued to contribute to Final, playing bass on releases such as Guitar & Bass Improvisations album series and Infinite Guitar 3 (2009). [3] [10] In 2008, he joined to English post-metal band Iroha. The band released two albums, Iroha (2011) and Shepherds & Angels (2012). [11] [12] In 2009, he became a member of Greymachine alongside Broadrick and Isis guitarist Aaron Turner. [13] Dalton also releases music under the name Council Estate Electronics with Broadrick. [14]

Jesu is the first full-length album by British experimental music band Jesu, released through Hydra Head Records on 8 December 2004. Unlike the Heart Ache EP, where Justin Broadrick executed all instrumentation himself, this release features Ted Parsons on drums, Diarmuid Dalton on bass, and a guest appearance by Paul Neville on guitar on the track "Man/Woman". The album was released in Japan by Daymare Recordings and contains two additional instrumental remixes on a bonus disc. In February 2005, a double vinyl picture disc set was released by Hydra Head, limited to 1000 copies.

Hymns had a troubled production and was intended to be distinct departure from Godflesh's intensely regimented industrial sound to something more traditionally hard rock. It was the band's second and final album to feature a live drummer rather than a drum machine.

The EP is the second release by Godflesh since Hymns (2001), following the 2013 single "F.O.D. ". It precedes the group's seventh studio album, A World Lit Only by Fire (2014), and the two were recorded in the same sessions.

JK Flesh is a moniker of English musician Justin Broadrick employed for his solo work within electronic music. Broadrick's usage of the title spans back to his work in the 1990s with Kevin Martin in Techno Animal, but he first released a solo studio album as JK Flesh in 2012. Unlike Broadrick's most well-known projects, Godflesh and Jesu, his work as JK Flesh is electronic and lacks metal riffs. Over the years, the project has shifted into a more minimal and dub sound while retaining its industrial influences.
