Disintegration Effect is the third studio album by American hard rock band Lo-Pro. It was released on May 14, 2013. The album was a departure from the prior two Lo-Pro albums, while half of the album retained the band's usual melodic hard rock sound, half contained more screamed vocals more reminiscent of members Pete Murray and Neil Godfrey's prior band, Ultraspank.
After releasing two nu metal albums as members of Ultraspank, vocalist Pete Murray and guitarist Neil Godfrey formed a new band, Lo-Pro, in 2002. [1] The band released their debut album, which featured a more mainstream, hard rock sound, Lo-Pro , on Geffen Records, [2] but were dropped from their contract due to poor album sales. [3] The band would spend seven years writing, recording, and re-recording a follow-up, The Beautiful Sounds of Revenge , which reflected upon the negative side of the music industry and the experience of losing their record deal, in 2010, [3] and focused on a more raw sound, with Murray feeling the original release was overproduced due to record label pressure. [4] After its release, the band changed directions and decided to release an acoustic album, [5] although, as recording progressed, the music took more of an electronic sound as well, resulting in a sound so different from past albums that the band opted to release it under a pseudonym, Life On Planet 9, on their album Bittersweet in 2011. [6] [7] By 2012, Murray announced that the band would be returning to work under the "Lo-Pro" name again on a third studio album. [8] However, unlike prior albums, where many songs were premiered months and even years before the album's release, Murray stated that the new album would be another shift in directions, and as such, they would not be releasing music much beforehand". [8]
Writing sessions first began upon the band being asked if they would hypothetically be open to the prospect of writing a soundtrack for a "post apocalyptic cyborg type movie". [9] The band, unfamiliar with working under the confine of a soundtrack or concept album mentality, decided to write a few songs and see how they felt about it. [9] While the band would ultimately not do the soundtrack, the band would continue to use tracks from the session, "Soulless", "Wasteland", "Obedience", and "We Are The Ones" for Disintegration Effect, and similar themes throughout the rest of the album's recording process. [9]
The band continued to record throughout 2012, although Murray later admitted that progress was slowed due to band members working on other projects, including concurrently working on a second Life On Planet 9 album, and contributing a few tracks to the Battlefield of the Mind soundtrack, the latter being a collaborative music project featuring band members of Staind, Megadeth, and Evanescence. [10] [11] While initially aiming for an early 2013 release, the album would be pushed back as Murray wrapped up contributing vocals to a few tracks for the Battlefield of the Mind soundtrack, including the tracks "No Words", "Tear It Down", and "Not Like You". [12] Additionally, Murray and Godfrey would help perform some of the soundtrack live on April 24, 2013. [12]
The album was entirely self-produced, with Murray even handling the album's production and mixing. [9]
Spurring from the initial writing sessions where the band was contemplating the idea of providing a soundtrack for a post apocalyptic film, much of the album's lyrical content centers around the dependence of technology in the modern world. Murray had been influenced by his surroundings, stated he felt "...fascinated and horrified by our addiction to technology...Next time you're in a restaurant, look around at how many husband and wives, boyfriends/girlfriends or friends are on their phones looking at Facebook instead of enjoying each other's company. That's just the tip of the iceberg." [9] The sentiment lead to more negative overtones, with fears that current trends could actually lead to that fictional "apocalyptic" scenario. Murray stated that the album could be epitomized by the lyrics "Freedom is dead" from the track "Obedience", which he stated"...is about defeat. The humans have lost the war and are now slaves to the machines." [9]
Sonically, Murray stated that the band hadn't especially intended on making "their heaviest album yet", but that it just happened naturally with the subject matter. [9] The album featured heavy, downtuned distorted guitars, electronic noises, and screamed vocals, more reminiscent of Ultraspank's sound, especially Progress , than past Lo-Pro releases. [9] [13] Murray eventually felt that longtime fans of his and Godfrey would enjoy the prospect of a throwback to their Ultraspank days. [9]
Just before the concert Murray announced that the album's title would be Disintegration Effect, and that it would be released on May 14, 2013. [14] [15] The announcement was coupled with a brief, 20-second preview of the album, containing clips from the tracks "Give Me Life" and "Obedience". [13] The opening track, "Give Me Life", was made available on the Battlefield of the Mind soundtrack a month prior to the release of Disintegration Effect. [16] The band streamed the track "Soulless" a day prior to the album's release. [17]

AmpKicker gave the album a 9.5 of 10 album, praising the album's concept and sound, stating "It comes with a message and the power to open your eyes to how our society is destroying itself. Murray is at his peak and screams the hell out of this album. The thickness of Godfrey's guitar surrounds you and makes those speakers shake, and the drums are like a stampede through your eardrums. [9] Belgium print magazine Rock Tribune gave the album a positive review as well, awarding it an 8.5 out of 10 rating. [19]
Murray stated that the album charted to no. 94 on the iTunes charts on its release day, [20] and that the band had already sold out of physical copies on the album's first day alone. [9]
Evanescence is an American rock band founded in 1994 by singer and keyboardist Amy Lee and guitarist Ben Moody in Little Rock, Arkansas. After releasing independent EPs as a duo in the late 90s and a demo CD, Evanescence released their debut studio album, Fallen, on Wind-up Records in 2003. Propelled by the success of hit singles like "Bring Me to Life" and "My Immortal", Fallen sold more than four million copies in the US by January 2004, garnering Evanescence two Grammy Awards out of six nominations. The band released their first live album and concert DVD, Anywhere but Home, in 2004, which sold over one million copies worldwide.
Seether are a South African rock band founded in 1999 in Pretoria, Gauteng. The band originally performed under the name Saron Gas until 2002, when they moved to the United States and changed it to Seether to avoid confusion with the deadly chemical known as sarin gas. Lead vocalist and guitarist Shaun Morgan is the band's longest serving member, bassist Dale Stewart joined shortly after formation while drummer John Humphrey joined them for the band's second album. Since 2018, the band has been employing second guitarist Corey Lowery. Several notable guitarists like Corey's brother Clint and Troy McLawhorn have toured or recorded with the band, however, Shaun has recorded most guitar parts for the band's records.
Lo-Pro is an American rock band formed in 2002 by Pete Murray and Neil Godfrey after the disbandment of their previous band, Ultraspank, in 2001. After attracting the attention of Aaron Lewis of Staind, the band signed to a major record label, Geffen Records, and released their debut album, Lo-Pro in 2003. After a year of touring in support of the album, they would be dropped from their label. The band stayed together, but it would be almost six years until any further music releases, with the band opting to record and re-record several album's worth of material, participate in side-projects, and perform live shows prior to finalizing new material for release.
Lo-Pro is the debut studio album of Lo-Pro, released on September 30, 2003. It had one single in "Sunday" which garnered considerable radio play upon release. Letting Go is the EP of Lo-Pro, initially available only during concerts in July and August during the "Stimulate This" Tour with Staind, Shinedown, Chevelle and Halestorm. It was reported to be released digitally in September 2009, but was eventually pushed back to October 21, 2009. This is their first formal release of music in six years, since their self-titled album in 2003. In the past, Lo-Pro has claimed to be working on "over 26 songs" for a future release. Despite this, five of the six tracks on it were later put on their full-length album The Beautiful Sounds of Revenge, to be released on June 8, 2010.
The Beautiful Sounds of Revenge is the second full-album by Lo-Pro, originally scheduled to be released was May 25, 2010, but was delayed to June 8, 2010, in order to add more songs to it. It is their third formal release of music, after their self-titled release in 2003 and the Letting Go EP in 2009. The album is described by leader singer and songwriter Pete Murray as "a diary of the Lo-Pro experience" over the course of the seven years it took to make the album. The album's only single was "Alive".
Chokt is an American industrial rock band featuring Pete Murray of Lo-Pro and Ultraspank, Walter Flakus of Stabbing Westward, and John Stevens of Ghost Machine and The Clay People. The trio recorded an album's worth of material together, releasing songs one by one over the course of 2006 to 2009. It served as an outlet for Murray for songs that didn't quite fit the hard rock sound of Lo-Pro, during the six year gap in between Lo-Pro releases.
"My Heart Is Broken" is a song by American rock band Evanescence. It was released on October 31, 2011, as the second single for their eponymous third studio album (2011). An alternative version appears on the band's fourth studio album Synthesis (2017). The track was written by Amy Lee, Terry Balsamo, Tim McCord, Will Hunt and Zach Williams, while production was handled by Nick Raskulinecz. Musically, "My Heart Is Broken" is an uptempo rock ballad, whose instrumentation consists of piano, guitars and drums. Lee revealed that the song was written after seeing victims of sex trafficking. The recording received favorable reviews from music critics, who praised the combination between Lee's vocals and piano playing, as well as its fellow instrumentation; several of them chose it as a highlight on the album. On music charts, "My Heart Is Broken" reached number 36 on the Austrian Singles Chart, number 92 on the German Singles Chart and number 34 on the US Adult Top 40.
Bittersweet is the first studio album by Life On Planet 9, the pseudonym used by American hard rock band Lo-Pro when releasing music of a more experimental nature. The album was released on August 20, 2011. The album's origins trace back as far as 2007, when Lo-Pro participated in an acoustic tour with Staind frontman Aaron Lewis. Tracks started as acoustic rock material, but as they developed, they gained further ambient and electronic elements. The sound strayed so far from their original hard rock sound that they decided to release it under another name.
Cryoshell is the self-titled debut studio album by Danish rock band Cryoshell, released June 7, 2010 by Voices Music & Entertainment. Produced by Jacob Hansen, the album was recorded between late 2008 and April 2010 at Hansen Studios in Ribe, Denmark.
White Noise Owl is a rock supergroup composed of lead vocalist Pete Murray of Lo-Pro and Ultraspank, bassist John Fahnestock of Lo-Pro, Snot, and Amen, drummer Will Hunt of Evanescence and Dark New Day, and guitarist Chris Shy of Aurora Sky. Their debut EP, produced by Ben Grosse, Until We Meet Again, was released on March 11, 2014. After a series of delays, their debut full-length album, Condition Critical, is scheduled for release on November 1, 2019. The first single, "Something", was released on August 1, 2017.
Until We Meet Again is the debut extended play (EP) by rock supergroup White Noise Owl. It was released on March 11, 2014. A promotional single, "Feed", was released a week prior on March 5, 2014, while "End Over End" was later released as the EPs first and only official single.
The Theory of Everything is the second studio album by Life On Planet 9, the pseudonym used by American hard rock band Lo-Pro when releasing music of a more experimental sound. The first album under the moniker, Bittersweet, had been more of an outlet for Lo-Pro's acoustic songs that had taken on too many electronic rock elements to be billed an acoustic album. The Theory of Everything largely disavows the acoustic elements in favor of electronic elements coupled with melodic guitar-work. It was released on August 26, 2014.

Condition Critical is the debut full-length studio album by American rock band White Noise Owl. Initially due shortly after their debut EP Until We Meet Again, the release saw multiple delays before receiving its final release date, November 1, 2019. The album's first single, "Something, was released over two years prior to the album release, on August 1, 2017. The second single, "Maybe It's Time", was released in October 2019.
