Doggy Bag is the second studio album by American rapper Lil' Bow Wow. It was released on December 18, 2001 through So So Def Recordings and Columbia Records. Recording sessions for the album took place from 2000 to 2001. The production on the album was primarily handled by Jermaine Dupri and Bryan-Michael Cox. The album also features guest appearances by Jagged Edge, Da Brat and Xscape among others.

Doggy Bag was supported by two singles: the first single "Thank You", which samples The Cars' "I'm Not the One", and the second single "Take Ya Home", which was also featured on the soundtrack to Lil' Bow Wow's 2002 film, Like Mike . The album received generally mixed reviews from music critics but was commercially successful, debuting at number eleven on the US Billboard 200 chart and selling 319,000 copies in its first week. [3]

Commercial performance

On January 23, 2002, the album was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for shipments of over a million copies. [4] As of December 2006, the album has sold 1.1 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen Soundscan. [5]

As Lil' Bow Wow, he released his debut studio album, Beware of Dog (2000) at age 13, and his second album, Doggy Bag (2001) the following year. Jermaine Dupri Mauldin is an American record producer, rapper, singer, songwriter, DJ, record executive. Raised in Atlanta as the son of Columbia Records executive Michael Mauldin, he began his career in music production at the age of nine. He discovered the teen hip hop duo Kris Kross in 1991. Dupri wrote and produced their breakout 1992 single "Jump," which peaked atop the Billboard Hot 100 and was named the 23rd most successful song of that decade. He established his own record label, So So Def Recordings in a joint venture with Columbia the following year.

It is Bow Wow's only album without assistance or production from his mentor Jermaine Dupri, and the first album where he dropped the 'Lil' from his stage name after his film debut in Like Mike (2002).

It was released on July 2, 2002 through So So Def Recordings and consisted of hip hop and contemporary R&B with production from the likes of Jermaine Dupri, The Neptunes and Alicia Keys. The soundtrack spawned two singles, the first being "Basketball", a cover of Kurtis Blow's 1984 song, performed by Lil' Bow Wow featuring Jermaine Dupri, Fabolous and Fundisha. The other is "Take Ya Home" by Lil' Bow Wow, taken from his second album Doggy Bag, which serves as the theme song for the film. It also features music from Amerie, Jagged Edge, Solange and more. The soundtrack is the final album with Lil' Bow Wow to feature the "Lil'" moniker in his name and is also Lil' Bow Wow's final album under So So Def.
