The Islamabad Capital Territory is the only federal territory of Pakistan containing Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan. Located on the northern edge of the Pothohar Plateau and at the foot of the Margalla Hills, The ICT shares borders with the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the west and with the province of Punjab in the remaining directions. It covers an area of 906.5 square kilometres and according to the 2023 national census, has a population of over 1 million in the city proper, while over 2 million in the whole territory. The territory is represented in the National Assembly by NA-52, NA-53, and NA-54 constituencies and by four seats in the Senate.
Islamabad is the capital city of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Tarbela Dam is an earth-filled dam along the Indus River in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. It is located mainly in the Swabi District Tehsil Topi of the province. It is about 20 km (10 mi) from the city of Swabi KPK, 105 km (65 mi) northwest of Islamabad, and 125 km (80 mi) east of Peshawar. It is the largest earth-filled dam in the world. The dam is 143 metres (470 ft) high above the riverbed and its reservoir, Tarbela Lake, has a surface area of approximately 250 square kilometres (97 sq mi).
Miraani Dam. Dasht River south of the Central Makran Range in Kech District in Balochistan province of Pakistan. Its 302,000 acre-feet (373,000,000 m3) reservoir is fed by the Kech River and the Nihing River. Mirani Dam was completed in July 2006 and began impounding the Dasht River in August 2006.
Haro is the name of a river that flows through Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and parts of Punjab. It is a left tributary of the Indus. Its main valley is in Abbottabad District in the Hazara Division of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, northern Pakistan. The famous Khanpur Dam has been built on this river at Khanpur in the Haripur District of Hazara Division to provide drinking water to the twin cities i.e. Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The decrease in inflows of Khanpur dam from Haro River results in water shortage in the twin cities during summer season.
Simly Dam is an 80 meters (260 ft) high earthen embankment dam on the Soan River, 30 kilometers (19 mi) east of Islamabad and Rawalpindi in Rawalpindi District, Punjab, Pakistan. It is the largest reservoir of drinking water to people living in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan. The water stored in this dam is fed by the melting snow & natural springs of Murree hills. It was developed by the Capital Development Authority. Planning for the dam began in 1962 and it was not completed when expected in 1972 due to project delays. It was completed in 1983.
The Soan River, also referred to as the Sawan, or Sohan, is a river in Punjab, Pakistan. It originates from the Murree Hills and joins River Indus near Makhad.
The Khanpur Dam is located on the Haro River in Khanpur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa about 50 km from Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan. It forms Khanpur Lake, a reservoir that supplies drinking water to Islamabad and Rawalpindi and irrigation water to many of the agricultural and industrial areas surrounding the cities.

The Akhori Dam project is a proposed multipurpose dam in Pakistan, about 60 km west of Islamabad. Developed by Pakistani Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) as part of its Water Vision 2025, it has been proposed by the former Pakistan Muslim League (Q)'s Government.
Mohmand Dam is an under construction multi-purpose concrete-faced rock-filled dam located on the Swat River approximately 37 km north of Peshawar and 5 km upstream of Munda Headworks in Mohmand District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.

Bunji Dam is proposed large hydro-power project on Indus River in Bunji, Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan. If built it would be Pakistan's second largest hydropower project.

It is approximately 245 km from the federal capital of Islamabad and 330 km from the provincial capital of Peshawar.

Rajgan Mosque is a historic mosque located in Khanpur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. It is located at the northern edge of the Khanpur Dam reservoir. It is locally known as ‘Rajon ki Masjid’, and is usually deserted except for Eid congregations. It is a 90-minute drive away from Islamabad.
Shyok Dam is located over the Shyok River in Ghanche District, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan.
Lieutenant General Muzammil Hussain (Retired) is a former senior officer in the Pakistan Army and former Chairman of the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) in Pakistan.
