Dragon Rocks is a 322 km2 nature reserve in the south-east of the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, some 310 km east-south-east of Perth. It is surrounded by farmland. It is listed on Australia's Register of the National Estate as an area significant for rare species of plants and animals. [3]

Flora and fauna

The reserve contains 28 different vegetation associations, including heaths, woodlands, low forests, mallee and kwongan. A large number of plant communitiess form a complex mosaic characteristic of wheatbelt vegetation, including vegetation communities occurring on laterite. Sixteen 16 plants, including 13 eucalypts, are endemic to the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia. The rare Lake Varley grevillea is found in the reserve. [3]

Frog species in the reserve include Günther's toadlet and the spotted-thighed frog. Reptiles present include at least three legless lizards and three geckos. The honey possum, Gilbert's dunnart, and the red-tailed phascogale are present. [3]

The reserve has been identified as an Important Bird Area because it supports populations of the endangered Carnaby's black-cockatoo, malleefowl, western rosella, blue-breasted fairy-wren, purple-gaped honeyeater, and western yellow robin. [4]

Badjaling Nature Reserve is a nature reserve managed by the Department of Parks and Wildlife, located at Badjaling in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia. Located east of Quairading, it is a reserve of native bushland, surrounded by land long since cleared for agriculture.

Burma Road Nature Reserve is a conservation area in the City of Greater Geraldton local government area of Western Australia. It lies 52 kilometres (32 mi) south of Geraldton and 20 kilometres (12 mi) east of Walkaway. It is a C-class reserve and covers an area of 6,889.5 hectares It is predominantly kwongan scrub-heath, typical of the Tathra Vegetation system of Beard and Burns. Almost all the native vegetation within a 20 km (12 mi) radius of the reserve has been cleared. There is only 11% of native vegetation remaining in the area, of which most is within the reserve.

Clackline Nature Reserve is the largest nature reserve in the Shire of Northam. It is located approximately one kilometre (0.62 mi) north of Clackline, in Western Australia's Wheatbelt region. The reserve is extends east to Clackline–Toodyay Road, south to one kilometre (0.62 mi) before Great Eastern Highway, and west to an unnamed road that runs north-west from Refractory Road. Abutilon Island is located approximately 120 kilometres (75 mi) off the coast from Onslow in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

The lake is situated within the Lake Cronin Nature Reserve.

Queen Victoria Spring Nature Reserve is a protected area managed by the Department of Parks and Wildlife and is located approximately 200 km (124 mi) east of Kalgoorlie in the Great Victoria Desert in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia.
