Dream Soldier is the fourth album by British soul singer-songwriter Des'ree. It was released on 31 March 2003 on the Sony Soho Square record label and features the UK top 75 single, "It's Okay". For sixteen years, it was the last studio album by Des'ree as she hadn't released any new material since the album's release before going on hiatus to focus on her interest in naturopathy. It wasn't until 2019 when she announced her fifth studio album, A Love Story, set to be released on October 11 through Stargazer Records. This is also her only studio album to be released in the 2000s as it was her last album before her hiatus.

Commercial reception

Dream Soldier reached No. 77 on the Swiss Hitparade singles chart. [1] Single "It's Okay" reached No. 19 on the UK R&B Singles Chart. [2] Following the commercial and critical failure of Dream Soldier, Des'ree was dropped by her label, Sony Music, and did not return to recording or releasing music until 2019.

Singles

Only one single was released from Dream Soldier due to the poor commercial performance of the album. "It's Okay", which featured a radio mix by Stargate, was released on 24 March 2003 [3] and reached number 69 in the UK Singles Chart. [4] The single didn't chart in the US.

The song was remixed by Bacon & Quarmby and released as the third single from Brown's debut solo album Unfinished Monkey Business. It was released in June 1998, and rose to number 21 on the UK Singles Chart. The song's lyrics refer to an incident when Brown saw His former Stone Roses band-mate John Squire in a village in Hale, Greater Manchester, not long after the split of the band. According to this story, Brown waved to Squire, but Squire hid behind a newspaper and would not acknowledge him.

"Kissing You" is a song by British singer Des'ree. It was written by the singer with Timothy Atack for Baz Luhrmann's 1996 film Romeo + Juliet. The song was included on the film's soundtrack album and Des'ree's third studio album, Supernatural (1998). A pop ballad set in the key of A minor, the record uses a simple instrumentation consisting only of piano and string instruments. "Kissing You" featured in Romeo + Juliet when the title characters meet at a ball. The song was well received by critics for its emotional melody and toned-down production. First released as a single in Australia on 24 February 1997, it appeared on the ARIA Singles Chart and the UK Singles Chart.
