East Makira is a single-member constituency of the National Parliament of Solomon Islands. Located on the island of Makira, it was established in 1973 when the Governing Council was expanded from 17 to 24 seats.

The Solomons cockatoo, also known as the Ducorp's cockatoo, Solomons corella or broad-crested corella, is a species of cockatoo endemic to the Solomon Islands archipelago. This small white cockatoo is larger than the Tanimbar corella yet smaller than the umbrella cockatoo. The species is common across most of the Solomons, absent only from Makira in the south. It inhabits lowland rainforests, secondary forests, cleared areas and gardens.
Solomon Sunaone Mamaloni was the second Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands three times: 30 August 1981 – 19 November 1984; 28 March 1989 – 18 June 1993; and 7 November 1994 – 27 August 1997.
The family of Southeast Solomonic languages forms a branch of the Oceanic languages. It consists of some 26 languages covering the South East Solomon Islands, from the tip of Santa Isabel to Makira. The fact that there is little diversity amongst these languages, compared to groups of similar size in Melanesia, suggests that they dispersed in the relatively recent past. The Malaita tube-nosed fruit bat is a species of bat in the family Pteropodidae. It is endemic only to the islands of Malaita and Makira in the Solomon Islands. The species occurs in primary tropical moist forest.
Pio Island is an island in the Solomon Islands province of Makira-Ulawa. It is situated 4 km north-west of Ugi Island. It is 2.7 km long and 1.5 km wide. The estimated terrain elevation above sea level is some 227 metres. The island has no villages. Coral reef surrounds the island, which is largest in the west and south of the island.
