Programs
The Eastern Michigan University College of Technology (COT) is broken down into five departments & schools. These departments and schools are the School of Engineering Technology, School of Information Security and Applied Computing, School of Technology and Professional Services Management, School of Visual and Build Environments, Military Science & Leadership Department and Centers & Institutes.
Aviation
The EMU Aviation program offers bachelor of science degrees in Aviation Flight Technology and in Aviation Management. Founded in 2001, EMU Aviation has 200+students at any given time, making it the largest collegiate flight school in the southeastern Michigan and northwestern Ohio area. It is also the fastest-growing aviation program in the Great Lakes region. EMU Aviation, with its flight partner Crosswinds Aviation, offers 4 locations to fly from: Howell, Flint, Pontiac and Willow Run just 10 minutes from campus.
Paralegal Studies
The Paralegal Studies Program offers both a bachelor's and second bachelor's degree in paralegal studies. [3] In addition, the program operates the Washtenaw County/EMU Legal Resource Center for members of the public, the only legal resource center in Michigan staffed by students. [4] The program is one of fourteen in Michigan approved by the American Bar Association. [5]
Polymers and coatings
In the fall of 2009, the Eastern Michigan University College of Technology established the Polymers and coating program. [6] In 2009, the Polymers and Coating program was the third program established in the United States. Today the program is of four Polymers and coating programs in the United States. [7] American engineer, John Texter is a professor for the program.
US Army ROTC
The Army ROTC program at Eastern Michigan University started on the campus in 1952. The Army ROTC program is part of the Military Science department in the COT. At the start of the program EMU was known as the Michigan State Normal School and had 213 freshmen enrolled in Army ROTC classes. Prior to the 1968-69 school year, Army ROTC was mandatory for all first-semester freshman males for their first two years of college and were taught in Welch Hall. [8]
EMUs Army ROTC program became fully elective in 1968 following the Vietnam War. The program has been housed in Roosevelt Hall since July 1973. The facility included a firing range and has since been converted into a world class physical fitness and leadership center. The highest enrollment into the program was in 1966 with a total of 1,856 cadets. EMUs Army ROTC program is one of the top US Army officer producing programs in the state of Michigan and has been recognized as Michigan's top Army officer producing program for the Michigan Army National Guard . Western Michigan University (WMU) is a public research university in Kalamazoo, Michigan. It was established in 1903 by Dwight B. Waldo. Its enrollment, as of the Fall 2019 semester, was 21,470. It is classified among "R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity".
Eastern Michigan University, is a public research university in Ypsilanti, Michigan, United States. The university was founded in 1849 as Michigan State Normal School. Today, the university is governed by an eight-member board of regents whose members are appointed by the governor of Michigan for eight-year terms. The school belongs to the Mid-American Conference and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Since 1991 EMU athletes have been known as "Eagles" and the school mascot, Swoop, was officially adopted by the university three years later. It is classified among "R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity".
The Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) is a group of college- and university-based officer training programs for training commissioned officers of the United States Armed Forces.
Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) is a private university focused on aviation and aerospace programs with its main campuses in Daytona Beach, Florida, and Prescott, Arizona, United States. It is the largest accredited university system specializing in aviation and aerospace. It has numerous online programs and academic programs offered at satellite locations.
The Eastern Mediterranean University is a public university in Northern Cyprus. It was established in 1979 under the leadership of Onay Fadıl Demirciler as a higher-education institution of technology for Turkish Cypriots. In 1986, it was converted to a state university. The campus is located within the city of Famagusta.
Andrews University is a private Seventh-day Adventist university in Berrien Springs, Michigan. Founded in 1874 as Battle Creek College, it was the first higher education facility started by Seventh-day Adventists and is the flagship university of the Seventh-day Adventist school system, the world's second largest Christian school system.
A student center is a type of building found on university and some high school campuses. In the United States, such a building may also be called a student union, student commons, or union. The term "student union" refers most often in the United States to a building, while in other nations a "students' union" is the student government. Nevertheless, the Association of College Unions International has several hundred campus organizational members in the US; there is no sharp dichotomy in interpretation of union in this context. The US usage in reference to a location is simply a shortened form of student union building.
The Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts is one of the six academic units at the Georgia Institute of Technology. The College conducts research and provides higher education for undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degrees in liberal arts disciplines. The College strives to bridge the traditional separation between science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) disciplines and the humanities and social sciences.
John Texter is an American engineer, chemist, and educator, and is professor of polymer and coating technology at Eastern Michigan University (EMU) in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He is best known for his work in applied dispersion technology and small particle science, for his international conference organization activities, including Particles 2001, Particles 2002, etc., and the Gordon Research Conferences, Chemistry at Interfaces and Chemistry of Supramolecules and Assemblies, and for his editing of the Primers page for nanoparticles.org.
Susan Work Martin is an American academic administrator who was most recently the interim president of San José State University. Previously, Martin served as president of Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan from 2008 to 2015. She was the first female president in the university’s 160-year history. She held a simultaneous appointment as Professor of Accounting in the College of Business during her tenure at Eastern.
Far Eastern University, also known simply as FEU, is a private research university in Manila, Philippines. Created by the merger of Far Eastern College and the Institute of Accounts, Business, and Finance, FEU became a university in 1934 under the guidance of its first president, Nicanor Reyes Sr. It has been noted as the leading proprietary university in the Philippines.
Eastern Michigan University College of Business is one of the colleges at Eastern Michigan University. EMU's College of Business is housed in the Gary M. Owen building in downtown Ypsilanti, which has been its site since 1991. Students are able to take a shuttle to the College of Business, which runs in a 20-minute loop around campus.
Eastern Michigan University was founded in 1849 by the state of Michigan, and opened in 1853 as Michigan State Normal School. Michigan State Normal School was the first in Michigan and the first normal school created outside the original 13 colonies.
The Eastern Michigan University College of Education was established in 1959. Eastern Michigan University has had a long history of developing educators since its founding in 1849 as Michigan State Normal School. Eastern Michigan is the largest producer of educational personnel in the country since 1991. The College of Education is divided into 3 departments and offers over 85 majors and minors and over 30 graduate degrees. The college has one of the oldest special education programs in the United States.
The Eastern Michigan University College of Health and Human Services is one of several colleges at Eastern Michigan University. The college was established the College of Human Services in 1975. The college is housed in the Marshall Building, next to the College of Education. The College of Health and Human Services includes majors such as Social Work, Dietetics, Clinical Laboratory Science, Health Administration and Nursing.
The Bruce T. Halle Library, often simply referred to as Halle Library, is the sole library on the Eastern Michigan University campus. It includes computer labs, study spaces, the Holman Learning Center, a distance-learning classroom, the Faculty Development Center, the IT Help Desk, a multi-media area, a theater, an auditorium, the University archives, the carillon tower, and a Cafe. It houses one of the largest collections of children's literature in the United States. The building has full wireless connectivity, as well as Automated Retrieval Collection (ARC) system, capable of housing 1 million items. While the most-used books are still on shelves, the majority of the school's books are stored within this system, which runs several stories underneath the library itself. The library is named for EMU graduate Bruce Halle, founder of Discount Tire and major benefactor.
The Eastern Michigan University Student Center is Eastern Michigan University's student union. Since its opening in 2006 the EMU Student Center replaced McKenny Union as the student hub of campus life. The building is simply referred to as "The Student Center" by students faculty and staff. In 2017 the Student Center was named the number one student union in the country by the College Rank. The building is located in University Park near the Rec/IM and Library. It is also the location of the EMU Bookstore, a 24/7 computer lab, two art galleries, various offices and Admissions. The Student Center also includes the Kiva Room.
Eastern Michigan University Historic District is an area of land on the very south end of the Eastern Michigan University campus. Eastern Michigan University is a comprehensive, co-educational public university located in Ypsilanti, Michigan in Washtenaw County. The university was founded in 1849 as Michigan State Normal School. Several buildings since its founding have achieved historical significance and eventually establishing it on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. The district was established in 1984.
