The Embassy of Israel to Nepal is the diplomatic mission of Israel in Nepal. The Embassy was established in March 1961 after diplomatic relations were established between the two countries in June 1960, under the leadership of David Ben-Gurion, the first Prime Minister of Israel and B.P. Koirala, the first elected Prime Minister of Nepal.

Israel opened its Embassy in Kathmandu in March 1961. Nepal opened a Consulate General in Israel in November 1993 and then the Embassy of Nepal in Israel on 17 August 2007.

Cooperation

Israel has inked cooperation with Nepal in the following sectors:

A Protocol of Cooperation between the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Federation of Israeli Chambers of Commerce was signed on 25 June 1993 in Tel-Aviv during a visit to Israel by prime minister Girija Prasad Koirala of Nepal.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the governments of Nepal and Israel relating to a scholarship program, 16 February 1995 was signed by the Joint Secretary, Ministry of Finance of Nepal and the Ambassador of Israel.

A Framework Agreement on Cooperation in the field of Agriculture was signed in March 2010 between the governments of Israel and Nepal.

Mashav in Nepal

Activities of Israel's Agency for International Development Cooperation ( Mashav ) in Nepal started in the 1960s. Since then more than 1500 Nepalese professionals have participated in Mashav training courses in Israel and in Nepal.

Mashav and Agricultural Development Bank Limited (ADBL) signed a MoU to enhance institutional efficiency and human resource development of ADBL. The cooperation is targeted to render banking services to rural small and medium-scale entrepreneurs to reduce the incidence of poverty, provide rural and modern banking services and ensure the financial viability and sustainability of ADBL.

MASHAV and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) in the field of Water Management (Irrigation and Drinking Water System) on 26 February 2010. It is intended to encourage the open exchange of information and ideas that enhance capacity building program objectives and strengthen institutional capabilities; promote an exchange of relevant technical resources and assist to enhance impact and sustainability through capacity building and training activities; and dispatch experts to identify areas of collaboration.

MASHAV, the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and Save the Children (SC) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) in the field of Early Childhood Education and Development (ECED) on 10 December 2010. It aims to encourage exchange of information and of relevant technical resources and assistance.

In the first half of 2012 more than 50 professionals from Nepal participated in MASHAV courses in Israel.

The governments of Israel and Nepal on 17 March 2010 signed an Agreement on cooperation on agricultural development, exchange of technical and scientific knowledge on agriculture, the exchange of data and experience on agricultural policies and their implementation and cooperation between the associations, organizations and private sector of both countries.

Visits

A number of official visits to Israel have been made over the years by Nepalese dignitaries, starting with King Mahendra in September 1963. President Zalman Shazar of Israel made a state visit to Nepal in March 1966.

Though the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) is the government agency responsible for the conduct of foreign relations of Nepal, historically, it is the Office of Prime Minister (PMO) that has exercised the authority to formulate and conduct policies related to Nepal's foreign affairs. Mahendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev was the King of Nepal from 13 March 1955 until his death in 1972. Following the 1960 coup d'état, he established the partyless Panchayat system which governed the country for 28 years until the introduction of multiparty democracy in 1990. During his reign, Nepal experienced a period of industrial, political and economic change that opened it to the rest of the world for the first time after the 104-year-long reign of the Rana rulers, who had kept the country under an isolationist policy, came to an end in 1951.

Nepal Rashtrabadi Gorkha Parishad, a pro-monarchy political party in Nepal. The party was founded in 1951 by members of the erstwhile Rana dynasty. The party was led by Bharat Shamsher JBR and MG Mrigendra Shamsher JBR.

Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala, better known as B. P. Koirala, was a Nepali revolutionary, political leader and writer. He was the Prime Minister of Nepal from 1959 to 1960. He led the Nepali Congress, a social democratic political party.

Yadav Kant Silwal is a Nepalese diplomat and former Foreign Secretary, who also served as the Secretary General of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation from January 1, 1994 to December 31, 1995. A 1960 batch member of Nepalese Foreign Service, he has served as Nepal's Ambassador to Russia before becoming Foreign Secretary in 1993. His earlier assignments were in Rome, Beijing and New York.

<i>The Kathmandu Post</i> English-language newspaper in Nepal

The Kathmandu Post is a major daily newspaper published in Nepal. Founded in February 1993 by Shyam Goenka, it is one of the largest English-language newspapers in the country. The newspaper is independently owned and published by Kantipur Publications, the owners of Nepal's largest selling newspaper, the Nepali-language Kantipur. Post is a member of the Asia News Network, an alliance of nineteen Asian newspapers. The Kathmandu Post is Nepal's first privately owned English broadsheet daily, and is Nepal's largest selling English language newspaper, with a daily circulation of 95,000 copies.

General Rookmangud Katawal is a former Nepalese Army general, who served as the Chief of Army Staff of the Nepal Army from 2006 to 2009. General Katawal has come across controversy after the then Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal unilaterally decided to sack Katawal on May 3, 2009.

Bahun or Khas Brahmin is a caste (Varna) among Khas people of Nepal. Their origins are from the Indo-Aryan Khasa tribe of Nepal and South Asia. According to the 2011 Nepal census, Bahun is the second most populous group after Chhetri, another Varna within the hill Hindus in Nepal.

Mashav is the Hebrew acronym for the Agency for International Development Cooperation in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel. Mashav is responsible for the design, coordination and implementation of the State of Israel's worldwide development and cooperation programs in developing countries. MASHAV believes that its greatest possible contribution to developing countries can be made in fields where Israel has relevant expertise accumulated during its own development experience as a young country facing similar challenges. MASHAV's development programs are conducted through workshops and training in the fields of agriculture, education and medicine and are funded jointly with multinational organizations such as the OAS, the Inter-American Development Bank, the UN development plan, UNESCO and the Food and Agriculture Organization. According to the OECD, 2020 official development assistance from Israel decreased by 1.9% to US$287.6 million.

The Embassy of the State of Israel in the Philippines is at the 11th Floor of Avecshares Center, 1132 University Parkway North, Bonifacio Global City in Taguig. The permanent mission of Israel in the Philippines has been representing the country since the year 1962.

The revolution of 1951 in Nepal, also referred to as Sat Salko Kranti, was a political movement against the direct rule by the Rana dynasty of Nepal which had lasted for 104 years. It marks the beginning of the political awakening and democratic movements in Nepal, and resulted in immediate abolition of the institutionalized hereditary Prime Minister system in Nepal.

The Embassy of India in Kathmandu is the diplomatic mission of the Republic of India to Nepal.
