ENVI was a division of American automobile manufacturer Chrysler formed in 2007 to create electric-drive vehicles and related advanced-propulsion technologies. [1]
Chrysler announced the formation of ENVI in September 2007. It was headed by Lou Rhodes who had formerly been in charge of "Advance Vehicle Concepts and Innovation" at Chrysler Group LLC. [1] [2] The group was dedicated solely to creating production vehicles, and not basic engineering research. "ENVI" was derived from "ENvironment" and "New Vehicles." [3]
Chrysler's new owner Fiat SpA disbanded the division in November 2009, removed the three ENVI models from its 5-year plan for Chrysler, and Chrysler announced Lou Rhodes will become the group line executive in charge of electric car development for both Fiat and Chrysler. [4] The first electric vehicle planned from Fiat-Chrysler is an electrified Fiat Doblò light commercial van. [5]
In September 2008, ENVI revealed three "production intent" electric vehicles to the public and announced that Chrysler Group LLC would start bringing a portfolio of electric vehicles to showrooms in 2010. The vehicles were the electric-only Dodge EV sports car (based on the Lotus Europa S), the range-extended Chrysler EV minivan (two examples: one on static display, based on the Chrysler Town & Country, and a running development mule based on the Mercedes B-Class), and the range-extended Jeep EV (based on the Jeep Wrangler JK Unlimited, running rear-wheel-drive only). [3] All used advanced lithium-ion batteries, [6] and the two range-extended models had a small gasoline engine to power an electric generator, providing a claimed all-electric range of 40 miles (64 km) and an extended range of 400 miles (640 km). [3] At the time Chrysler said it was investigating in-wheel motors and dual battery chemistries. [7] In addition, a neighborhood electric vehicle named the PeaPod based on the existing GEM was announced. [8]
The ENVI group announced it was also creating a new hybrid vehicle from "the ground up", designed in the same manner as the Toyota Prius and Honda Insight.

Both cars, as well as Dodge Caliber shared the GS platform, differentiated by their styling and marketing, with the Patriot exclusively offering a four-wheel drive system, marketed as Freedom Drive II.

The Chrysler Pentastar engine family is a series of aluminium dual overhead cam 24-valve gasoline V6 engines introduced for model-year 2011 Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep vehicles. The engine was initially named "Phoenix," but the name was changed before the official launch due to a trademark conflict; the Pentastar name is derived from the trademark of the former Chrysler Corporation, which dates back to 1963. The Pentastar was introduced at the 2009 New York Auto Show. The engine design allows the use of E85 or 87 octane fuel and features dual variable valve timing. Direct injection, forced induction, and cylinder deactivation options were engineered into the engine design but haven't been implemented from the factory, remaining "on the shelf" as of 2016.
The Dodge Journey is a mid-size crossover SUV manufactured and marketed by FCA's Dodge brand for model years 2009-2020 over a single generation, with a facelift for the 2011 model year. The Journey was styled by Ryan Nagode, and was marketed globally in both left and right hand drive, including as the Fiat Freemont.
Louis Rhodes is an American engineer. He was born at the Detroit Osteopathic Hospital in Michigan. He was employed as the director of design engineering at Chrysler LLC, an American automobile manufacturer. He has been in charge of various projects as the ME Four-Twelve, and the Chrysler Group's Minivan Stow ’n Go seating. On September 13, 2007, he was appointed president of ENVI, a division of Chrysler formed to develop electric-drive vehicles.

The SCCS platform, also called Small Platform or 199 platform is an automobile platform originally developed by Fiat for subcompact, front-wheel drive, and all-wheel drive vehicles. The group was established in October 2014 through the merger of Chrysler Group and Fiat S.p.A. Its corporate headquarters were domiciled in Amsterdam and its financial headquarters were in London. The holding company was listed on the New York Stock Exchange and Milan's Borsa Italiana. Exor, an Italian investment group controlled by the Agnelli family, owned 29.19% of FCA and controlled 44.31% through a loyalty voting mechanism.
