Ernst Loosen is a German winemaker and owner of the wine producer Weingut Dr. Loosen, located just outside Bernkastel in the Mosel wine region. With over 130,000 annual bottle production, he is one of the larger producers in the Mosel region. He is particularly known for the quality of his Rieslings, having won "Riesling of the Year" in 1989 as awarded by the German wine trade magazine Feinschmecker. [1]

In 1996 Ernst took over the historic J.L. Wolf estate, in the Pfalz region of Germany. Now known as Villa Wolf, there he produces Riesling in the style of the Rhine Valley, as well as the several Pinot varieties that are traditional in that area.

In 2001, Gault-Millau named Ernst Loosen as the German winemaker of the year, and in 2005, he got selected as Decanter's "Man of the Year". [2] Weingut Dr. Loosen was awarded three stars in Eichelmann Deutschlands Weine 2009. [3]

Having always had a lifelong passion for Pinot Noir, Ernst met Oregon Winemaker Jay Somers who was making Pinot Noir under the J. Christopher Brand. Later in 2010 Ernst acquired a 40 acre property in the Chehalem Mountains AVA, in Oregon's Northern Willamette Valley where he would partner with J Christopher Wines and constructed the J Christopher Winery and the adjoining Appassionata Vineyard. Over the last decade, J. Christopher has earned international acclaim and was named a Wine & Spirits World Top 100 Winery in 2017. [4] In 2020 Dr. Loosen counted among the top 50 wine destinations worldwide. [5] [6]

The winery was founded by Edward O'Keefe Jr. and is notable for having the first large-scale planting of Vitis vinifera in Michigan. O'Keefe and Chateau Grand Traverse were also the driving force behind the establishment of an American Viticultural Area on the Old Mission Peninsula back in the 1980s when the estate was the only commercial winery on the peninsula. Weingut Schmitt's Kinder is one of the most traditional family wineries in Franconia. Viticulture in the family dates back to 1712, while the name ″Schmitt's Kinder″ dates back to the division of the estate in 1910. Located in Randersacker, Schmitt's Kinder is noted for their Silvaner (37%), Riesling (14%) and pinot noir (10%). Its 35-acre (140,000 m2) estate in the Maindreieck district is the middle portion of Franconia and comprising the sites Pfülben, Marsberg, Sonnenstuhl and Teufelskeller. Schloss Westerhaus is the largest estate in Rheinhessen. It is located on the hill Westerberg (Rheinhessen) near Großwinternheim borough of Ingelheim am Rhein. Today it is a well-known VDP winery and is run by the fourth generation. The vineyards consist of ancient shell limestone rocks and the winery's wine cellar is carved into the mountain, which is reminiscent of a stalactite cave in appearance, but is ideally suited as wine cellar. Weingut Schloss Westerhaus is a member of the Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter (VDP).

Weingut Battenfeld Spanier is a German wine grower and producer based in Hohen-Sülzen, in the Wonnegau district of the wine-growing region of Rheinhessen, Germany. Weingut Battenfeld Spanier is a member of the Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter (VDP) since 1998.
