Ozark County is a county in the southern portion of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 8,553. The largest city and county seat is Gainesville. The county was organized as Ozark County, named after the Ozark Mountains, on January 29, 1841. It was renamed Decatur County, after Commodore Stephen Decatur, from 1843 to 1845, after which the name Ozark County was restored.

The district is a member of the Western Arkansas Educational Service Cooperative, which includes districts in western Arkansas. As of 2004, the student population of the district was about 1,600. The above figure was tallied before the Altus-Denning School District merged with this district the same year, making future tallies notably higher. The district, most notably the high school, is most famous for its mascot, the Hillbilly. Patrons claim that Ozark is the only district in the Union with the Hillbilly as its mascot, though both the nickname and comparable likenesses are used by other schools. However, Ozark is the only district to use the nickname and likeness together.
Arkansas State University–Mountain Home (ASUMH) is a public community college in Mountain Home, Arkansas. It is part of the Arkansas State University System and primarily serves students of north central Arkansas. Among other tracks, the college prepares nurses who may then go on to serve at the health complex and supporting facilities that surround the Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home. ASUMH serves approximately 1,500 students each year.
