Gene Schulter (born November 14,1947) was alderman of the 47th ward of the City of Chicago. He was first elected in 1975 and served until his retirement in 2011.
Schulter is the youngest of five children,all raised in Chicago. He attended John Audubon School and later graduated from Lake View High School in 1965. Schulter earned his bachelor's degree from Loyola University. He was also awarded a Law Degree. Schulter also earned a post graduate degree from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.[ citation needed ]
In 1975,Schulter was recruited by 47th Ward Committeeman and Chicago Park District Superintendent Ed Kelly to run for City Council in the ward against John J. Hoellen Jr.,a foe of mayor Richard J. Daley who was also running against Daley in the coinciding mayoral election. [1] He won the election. He was only 26,making him one of the youngest aldermen to serve in the city council.
As alderman,Schulter worked for license reform. Schulter is responsible for legislation that guaranteed equitable citywide cable services and set asides for minorities;he led the drive for more community input on parks;and sponsored the city's Landscape Oridnance which requires the incorporation of landscape plans and planting of trees for every new residential,commercial,or industrial development.[ citation needed ]
Schulter highlighted the Sulzer Regional Library as a major ward achievement. Also,he worked to build a field house at Chase Park,fostered revitalization of Lincoln Square Mall,and supported the development of the Ravenswood Industrial Corridor.[ citation needed ]
During his tenure,Schulter was chairman of the Committee on License and Consumer Protection. He served on six other committees:Budget and Government Relations;Finance;Committees,Rules and Ethics;Traffic Control and Safety;Zoning;and Parks and Recreation.
In 2008,Schulter expended a portion of his aldermanic expense account as a salary for his daughter,Monica. [2] [3] [4] A city ordinance prohibits the spending of aldermanic expense funds for "the direct monetary benefit of any alderman or any of his or her relatives." [5]
In 2011,Schulter announced his retirement from the city council. The open seat was subsequently won by Ameya Pawar. Pawar gained under 51% of all votes cast,narrowly avoiding a runoff against Schulter ally Tom O'Donnell. [6]
Schulter is a paid director of North Community Bank,a bank in Chicago with locations in the 47th ward. [7] [8]
Schulter is married to Rosemary. They have two children together.
Richard Michael Daley is an American politician who served as the 54th Mayor of Chicago,Illinois,from 1989 to 2011. Daley was elected mayor in 1989 and was reelected five times until declining to run for a seventh term. At 22 years,his was the longest tenure in Chicago mayoral history,surpassing the 21-year stay of his father,Richard J. Daley.

Leslie Hairston is an American politician who is currently alderman of the 5th ward of the City of Chicago;she was elected in 1999. Hairston is a Hyde Park native. He was first elected in 1983 at age 28. His tenure ended in May 2019 after his loss to challenger Andre Vasquez in the 2019 Chicago aldermanic elections. O'Connor was an unsuccessful candidate in the Democratic Party primary election for Illinois's 5th congressional district special election,2009.

Latasha R. Thomas is an American politician and former alderman of the 17th Ward of the City of Chicago,Illinois,United States. Thomas was appointed to the position of alderman by Mayor Richard M. Daley in 2000,subsequently elected outright in a 2001 special election,and was re-elected in 2003,2007,and 2011. During her tenure as alderman,Thomas worked to get many of the schools within her ward renovated. In the fall of 2014 Thomas announced that she would not seek re-election in 2015 as alderman,following the announcement that a former employee would run in her place.
Ricardo Muñoz is a former member of the Chicago City Council,having served as alderman for the 22nd ward,which includes Little Village and Archer Heights. Muñoz was appointed to this position by Mayor Richard M. Daley in 1993 and served until 2019. He was the longest tenured Latino and fourth longest tenured member of the Chicago City Council.

Sandra Lee Jackson is an American politician. She was elected to the Chicago City Council as an alderman of the 7th ward of the City of Chicago in the 2007 municipal elections held on February 27,2007. She succeeded Darcel A. Beavers who had been appointed by Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley after the 2006 November elections to succeed her father William Beavers,Jackson's rival,as alderman of the 7th Ward. Jackson resigned from Chicago City Council,effective January 15,2013. On February 20,2013,Jackson pleaded guilty to one count of filing false tax returns,and on August 14,2013 was sentenced to one year in prison.
Toni Lynn Preckwinkle is an American politician and the current Cook County Board President in Cook County,Illinois,United States. She was first elected as President of the Cook County Board of Commissioners,the executive branch of Cook County government,in November 2010 and became the first woman elected to this position. She was previously a five-term alderman in the Chicago City Council,representing Chicago's 4th ward. Preckwinkle was a candidate for Mayor of Chicago in the 2019 election,and advanced to the runoff election,which she lost to Lori Lightfoot.

The 2019 Chicago elections took place in two rounds on February 26,2019,and April 2,2019. Elections were held for Mayor of Chicago,City Clerk of Chicago,City Treasurer of Chicago,and all 50 members of the Chicago City Council. The candidates who won in these elections were inaugurated on May 20,2019. Four ballot referenda were also voted on in certain precincts. The elections were administered by the Chicago Board of Elections.
Christopher Cohen was Alderman of the 46th Ward of Chicago from 1971 to 1977. He was first elected to the Chicago City Council on February 23,1971,with 60% of the vote. Because he receive an absolute majority,no contest was required on the April 6,1971 run-off election date. This was the same election that brought the newcomers Dick Simpson (politician),Edward Vrdolyak,Clifford P. Kelley,Marilou Hedlund and Anna Langford to the City Council. On February 25,1975,Cohen was reelected 1975 with 63% of the vote also requiring no contest in the subsequent April 1,1975 runoff.
