Eunice Chebichii Chumba (born 23 May 1993) [2] is a Kenyan-born Bahraini female long-distance runner. She won silver medals in the 10,000 metres at the 2018 Asian Games and 2015 Asian Athletics Championships.
Eunice Chumba was born and raised in Kenya before moving to Bahrain in 2014. She settled in Bahrain and was motivated by her father to represent the country in athletics at international arena. [3] [4]
She claimed her first athletics senior gold medal in Manama at the 2016 Asian Cross Country Championships. [5] Chumba won the 2017 Copenhagen Half Marathon with a time of 1:06:11, establishing a new course record among women. [6] She also set a new Beirut Marathon record among women in 2017 with a finish of 2:28:43 to take the gold medal. [7] [8]
Chumba claimed her first Asian Games medal, silver in the women's 10,000 m event representing Bahrain at the 2018 Asian Games. [9] [10]
Maryam Yusuf Jamal is an Ethiopian-born Bahraini middle-distance runner. She is the first Bahraini athlete to win an Olympic medal, a gold in the 1,500m women's race, in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. This was also the first Olympic medal won by a woman representing a Gulf state. Born in Ethiopia, 2005 was her first full season. She gained the national record and ran the fastest 3000 m of the year, with a time of 8:28.87 at a race in Oslo. Jamal is a two-time world champion in the 1,500 m, having won at the 2007 and 2009 World Championships in Athletics.
Nadia Ejjafini is a Moroccan-born professional long-distance runner. She switched nationality from her birth country to Bahrain in 2003, and later became an Italian citizen by marriage in 2009.
Bahrain has competed in 10 Summer Olympic Games. They have never competed in the Winter Olympic Games.
Abel Kirui is a long-distance runner from Kenya who competes in marathons. He had back-to-back wins in the World Championship marathon in 2009 and 2011. Kirui won in 2009 with a time of 2:06:54, then defended his title with a winning margin of two minutes and 28 seconds – the largest ever margin at the World Championship event. He earned the silver medal in the 2012 London Olympic marathon.
Inês Alexandra das Neves Monteiro is a Portuguese athlete who competes in middle and long-distance track running, as well as road running and cross country. She started out as a cross country runner, winning a silver and a gold medal at the 1998 and 1999 European junior race. She has represented Portugal at the 2004 and 2008 Summer Olympics, and has competed twice at the World Championships in Athletics. She is a regular performer at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships, generally finishing around 30th place.

Having switched countries in 2013, she is the Bahraini record holder with 2:21:17 hours for the distance, set in 2017 at Nagoya Women's Marathon. She was the silver medallist in the marathon at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.

The 2017 IAAF Road Race Label Events was the tenth edition of the global series of road running competitions given Label status of Gold, Silver or Bronze by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). The series included 103 road races in total, 50 Gold, 20 Silver and 33 Bronze. In terms of distance, 68 races were marathons, 23 were half marathons, 9 were 10K runs, and three were held over other distances. The series included all six World Marathon Majors in the Gold category.
