Exemplaria is a quarterly peer-reviewed academic journal covering the Middle Ages and the Early modern period. It was established in 1989 and is published by Taylor & Francis. The editors-in-chief are Carissa M. Harris (Temple University), Shirin A. Khanmohamadi (San Francisco State University), Charles Samuelson (University of Colorado Boulder), and Joseph Taylor (University of Alabama in Huntsville). The book review editor is Hall Bjørnstad (Indiana University, Bloomington).
The journal was developed in the late 1980s by Richard Allen Shoaf [1] of the University of Florida and Julian N. Wasserman of Loyola University, New Orleans, with the help of the publisher Mario Di Cesare of SUNY Binghamton, who founded Medieval and Renaissance Texts and Studies (MRTS). [2] As Shoaf has said, they "envisioned the journal as a venue in which pre-modern literature and newer theories, such as deconstruction, psychoanalysis, and feminism, could challenge each other in ongoing dialogue and arguments for the vitality and relevance of the pre-modern." [3]
The journal was published by MRTS twice a year from 1989 to 2006. In 2007, it became a quarterly published by Maney Publishing, with Shoaf as the principal editor. In 2009, it was handed over to a new team of five editors. In 2015, Maney Publishing was acquired by Taylor and Francis, which continues to publish Exemplaria.
In 2006 The Times Literary Supplement stated that Exemplaria "breaks into new territory, while never compromising on scholarly quality". [4] In 2011 Exemplaria received the Phoenix Award for Significant Editorial Achievement from the Council of Editors of Learned Journals (CELJ). [5]

Oxford German Studies is a quarterly peer-reviewed academic journal covering German studies. It was established in 1965 and was published by Maney Publishing, until its takeover by Taylor & Francis, where it is now published under their imprint Routledge. It was established, among others, by Peter Ganz. The editors-in-chief are Henrike Lähnemann and Karen Leeder.
The Harvard Theological Review is a quarterly peer-reviewed academic journal established in 1908 and published by Cambridge University Press on behalf of the Harvard Divinity School. The Explicator is a peer-reviewed, quarterly journal of literary criticism. It began publication in October 1942 and is now both printed and available in an electronic version. Routledge acquired the journal from Heldref Publications in 2009, and now it is owned by Taylor & Francis. Issues often include between 25 and 30 articles on works of literature, "ranging from ancient Greek and Roman times to our own, from throughout the world." According to a library guide, "As the title of the journal suggests, the focus is on explication, or close readings, of the works. As such, the articles tend to use less jargon and are easier to understand than some other articles in literature studies."
American Literature is a literary journal published by Duke University Press. It is sponsored by the American Literature Section of the Modern Language Association. The current editors are Priscilla Wald and Matthew A. Taylor. The first volume of this journal was published in March 1929. Founders include Fred Lewis Pattee, among others.
Angelaki: Journal of the Theoretical Humanities is a bimonthly peer-reviewed academic journal that was established in 1993. It covers "work in the disciplinary fields of literary criticism and theory, continental philosophy, and cultural studies." Since 1998, it has been published by Routledge. The editor-in-chief is Pelagia Goulimari, who was also the founding executive editor. In 1996, Angelaki was named "Best New Journal" in the annual awards of the Council of Editors of Learned Journals.
Durant Waite Robertson Jr. was a scholar of medieval English literature and especially Geoffrey Chaucer. He taught at Princeton University from 1946 until his retirement in 1980 as the Murray Professor of English, and was "widely regarded as this [the twentieth] century's most influential Chaucer scholar".
Dutch Crossing is an interdisciplinary peer-reviewed academic journal devoted to all aspects of Low Countries studies: history and art history, Dutch and Flemish literary and cultural studies, Dutch language, Dutch as a foreign language, and intercultural and transnational studies. Its stated purpose is to cover "all aspects of 'Global Dutch', not only the Netherlands and the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium but also other places where Dutch historically had or continues to have an impact, including parts of the Americas, Southern Africa, and South-East Asia." A special focus concerns exchanges between the Low Countries and the English-speaking world in all periods from the late Middle Ages to the present day. Dutch Crossing is the official journal of the Association for Low Countries Studies."
Modern Language Quarterly (MLQ), established in 1940, is a quarterly, literary history journal, produced (housed) at the University of Washington and published by Duke University Press. The current editor is Jeffrey Todd Knight. Marshall Brown was the editor from 1993 to 2021.
The Arizona Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies (ACMRS) was established in 1981, by the Arizona Board of Regents as a state-wide, tri-university research unit that bridges the intellectual communities at Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, and the University of Arizona. Located centrally on the campus of Arizona State University, ACMRS is charged with coordinating and stimulating interdisciplinary research about medieval and early modern literature and culture.
The Society for the Study of the Multi-Ethnic Literature of the United States (MELUS) is a scholarly society established in 1974. MELUS publishes a quarterly academic journal, MELUS. The aim of the Society is "to expand the definition of American literature through the study and teaching of Latino American, Native American, African-American, Asian and Pacific American, and ethnically specific Euro-American literary works, their authors, and their cultural contexts".

The Year's Work in Modern Language Studies (YWMLS) is an English-language evaluative bibliographical journal which appears annually, containing reports on new scholarship in the fields of European languages, linguistics, literature and film, except for English studies. The MLA Literary Research Guide says: "YWMLS is the single most comprehensive evaluative survey of scholarship on European and Latin American languages and literatures.
