Ezhilan Naganathan (born 27 June 1979) is an Indian medical practitioner,social activist and politician from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). Since May 2021,he has been serving as a member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from Thousand Lights constituency. [1] [2] [3] [4]
Ezhilan was born to parents with strong Dravidian ideologies,Professor Dr. M. Naganathan and Professor Dr. Santhi Naganathan. Professor M. Naganathan was a close associate of Ex-Chief Minister of Tamil Nad u M Karunanidhi for over 40 years and served as the Vice-Chairman of Tamil Nadu State Planning Commission from 2006-2011. [5] Dr. Ezhilan was entrusted with the responsibility of complete medical care of Kalaignar for nearly a decade.
Ezhilan graduated from Don Bosco Matriculation Higher Secondary School,Chennai. [6] He was a serious student and talented young dancer. Ezhilan completed his under-graduate and post-graduate studies in Medicine from Madras Medical College (MMC).
During his time at MMC,he was decorated with the B Bruan Medical Award and Edward Norraday Award for academic excellence in the field of medicine. He was a gold medalist in his class for medicine in the year 2007. Ezhilan was force behind protests that fought for an increase in the minimum pay of post-graduate students. Ezhilan was instrumental in establishing an exclusive poison control centre in MMC,that contributes to saving thousands of lives of farmers from snakes,scorpions,rats and pesticides across Tamil Nadu.[ citation needed ]
Ezhilan has run a private clinic in Teynampet,Chennai since the 2000s to provide free medical assistance for the poor,served at CSI Kalyani Mission Hospital,Chennai for 10 years. He was a consulting physician at Aswenee Hospital at Poes Garden,Chennai. He also consults at Kauvery Hospital,Alwarpet Chennai.
He has mentored 40 post-graduate students who became practising professionals across India.
He is the founder of NGO MAX Medical Foundation. [7] It is committed to educating Tamil Nadu youth in imparting the value of scientific temperament and eradicating superstitions. His organization is in the forefront of aiding the poor. He conducts statewide health camps and first aid centres. He is a Rotarian and won two district awards as the Director of Public Health for his work among AIDS-affected children and transgender communities. He is a founder of Illaignar Iyamkkam youth organization - a NGO that works for education and empowerment of the youth of Tamil Nadu about science,social justice and equality.
Ezhilan and family are Periarists. They believe in Dravidan ideologies and follow the path of Arignar Anna and Thandhai Periyar on secularism and social justice.
Ezhilan joined Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party to run for Tamil Nadu State Assembly Elections 2021 from Thousand Lights Constituency,Chennai. [8]
Ezhilan advocates for the importance of social justice,scientific temperament,secularism and state autonomy across Tamil Nadu.
He opposed exclusionary policies such as NEET, [9] NEP,NRC,CAA through statewide protest,public gatherings,meetings and TV shows. He opposed all the majoritarian policies of the central and state government during 2016-2021. He has been a guest speaker and participated in many debates and interviews in Regional and National television in India,on topics surrounding social justice,state government’s policies on inclusion and education. DMK was responsible for bringing NEET to Tamil Nadu. [10]

His causes include the Sri Lankan Tamil Independence movement and the Kudankulam nuclear power plant protests.[ citation needed ]

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam is an Indian political party based in the state of Tamil Nadu, where it is currently the ruling party, and the union territory of Puducherry, where it is currently the main opposition.
Maruthur Gopalan Ramachandran , popularly known by his initials M.G.R., was an Indian actor, politician and philanthropist who served as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu from 1977 until his death in 1987. He was the founder and first general secretary of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. On 19 March 1988, Ramachandran was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour. Ramachandran is regarded as one of the most influential politicians of post-independence India. Apart from politics, as a film personality he won the National Film Award, two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards and two Filmfare Award South.
The Indian Christian Front (ICF) is a Christian political party in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The president of the party is M.L. Sundaram. ICF, together with the Christian Democratic Front, contested the local elections in 2001. The party supported the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), forming an alliance in the 2001 Tamil Nadu state assembly election.

The Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam is an Indian regional political party in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is a Dravidian party founded by the former leader of the opposition in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Vijayakant (Captain) at Madurai on 14 September 2005. The party was led by its founder until 14 December 2023 from its date of founding. From 14 December 2023, the DMDK is led by Vijayakant's wife Premallatha Vijayakant as general secretary of the party. The party served as the main opposition party in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from 27 May 2011 to 21 February 2016. The headquarters of the party is called Captain Aalayam, which is located at Jawaharlal Nehru Salai, Koyambedu, Chennai.
The thirteenth legislative assembly election, of Tamil Nadu was held on 8 May 2006. It was held for all 234 constituencies to elect the government in the state for the following five years. The votes were counted three days later on 11 May 2006 and all the results were out by the end of the day. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led (DMK) front won the elections, with the DMK emerging as the single-largest party with 96 seats, and its leader, M Karunanidhi was sworn in as Chief Minister for a fifth and final term. This election marked the first time the state saw a hung assembly with no party gaining a majority of its own. As a result, DMK formed a minority government with its allies, which is the first in the state since the 1952 election. 13th Assembly was instituted due to this election.
V. R. Nedunchezhiyan was an Indian politician and writer. He served thrice as the Chief Minister of the state of Tamil Nadu, India. He served as a senior cabinet minister under the governments of C. N. Annadurai, M. Karunanidhi, M. G. Ramachandran and J. Jayalalithaa. For his literary contributions, he was also known as "Navalar" or the eloquent.

Dravidian parties include an array of regional political parties in the state of Tamil Nadu, India, which trace their origins and ideologies either directly or indirectly to the Justice Party and the Dravidian movement of C. Natesanar and Periyar E. V. Ramasamy. The Dravidian movement was based on the linguistic divide in India, where most of the Northern Indian, Eastern Indian and Western Indian languages are classified as Indo-Aryan, whereas the South Indian languages are classified as Dravidian. Dravidian politics has developed by associating itself to the Dravidian community. The original goal of Dravidian politics was to achieve social equality, but it later championed the cause of ending the domination of North India over the politics and economy of the South Indian province known as Madras Presidency.
Erode Venkatappa Krishnasamy Sampath, usually referred to as E. V. K. Sampath was a prominent politician from Tamil Nadu, India. He was an advocate of the Dravidian Movement of Periyar E. V. Ramasamy and was considered by some as his political heir. He later split from Periyar's Dravidar Kazhagam to form Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) along with C. N. Annadurai. In spite of being one of the founders of DMK he later left and formed his own party, by the name, Tamil National Party. Nevertheless, he later merged his party with the Indian National Congress. He is a former Member of Parliament from the constituency of Namakkal.

K. P. P. Samy was an Indian politician who served as Minister for Fisheries in Tamil Nadu state of India and as a member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from the Thiruvottiyur. He was a Member of Tamil Nadu State Legislative Assembly as a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam DMK candidate from fishermen-dominated Thiruvottiyur in 2016 election. He was also elected as MLA of Tiruvottiyur in 2006 election. He served as Minister for Fisheries including Fisheries Development and Fisheries Corporation at Thirteenth Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly under the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M. Karunanidhi in the Tamil Nadu state of India. He was Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam state Fisheries wing Secretary. He was born in Chennai on 1 July 1962. He died due to illness on 27 February 2020 at the age of 57.
S. Jagathrakshakan is an Indian Tamil businessman and politician. He did his matriculation at Valudavur. He is a member of Lok Sabha of India from Arakkonam constituency of Tamil Nadu and has been elected from this constituency thrice since 1999. He was the minister of state for commerce and industry from November 2012 to March 2013. He is also the chairman of Shree Balaji Medical College and Hospital. He is the owner of Dr. Rela Hospital and Institute. He has authored 30 books, one of which was released by Mother Teresa.
A. V. P. Asaithambi was a Tamil Nadu politician, belonging to DMK party. He was elected to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly in 1957 from Thousand Lights constituency as a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party candidate and 1967 from Egmore constituency as a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate. He was also elected to Lok Sabha in 1977 from Chennai North constituency as a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate. Collectrate office building in Virudhunagar is named after him. He was a dialogue writer for a film Sarvadhikari made in 1951. He died on 7 April 1979.
K. Krishnasamy is an Indian physician, social worker and politician who was a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu. He founded the Puthiya Tamilagam party in 1999 and was elected to the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly from Ottapidaram constituency in 1996 election and as Puthiya Tamilagam candidate in 2011 Alliance with All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party.
Sathyavani Muthu was an Indian politician and influential leader from Chennai, Tamil Nadu. She was a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu, Rajya Sabha member and Union Minister. She began her political career as a member of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, began her own party, Thazhthapattor Munnetra Kazhagam and later joined the Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. In late 1990s, she again joined in DMK.
R. M. Veerappan, also referred to as RMV or Rama Veerappan, was an Indian film producer, screenwriter and politician from the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. He was the founder and leader of the MGR Kazhagam party. He served as a Cabinet Minister in five governments from 1977 to 1996, was a three-time Member of Legislative Council and a two-time Member of the Legislative Assembly. He was the Leader of the House for Legislative Assembly and Leader of ADMK party of the Legislative Council. He was the architect behind the ADMK organization, unified the MGR fan clubs for the party formation. He was called as the 'Chanakya' of AIADMK politics in the 70's and 80's.

The 2022 Tamil Nadu urban local body elections to the local government in Tamil Nadu were held in urban areas in February 2022. The Greater Chennai Corporation, alongside 20 other municipal corporations of Tamil Nadu, went to polling on 19 February 2022 to elect councillors to represents the wards in the respective cities; the elected councillors will choose a mayor from amongst themselves.
