Fairport is an unincorporated community in Paradise Township, Russell County, Kansas, United States. [1] It is located about 12 miles north of Gorham near the west county line and next the Saline River.
In 1879, Knight & Bradshaw built Fairport Mills, a steam and water-powered flour mill, at a site on the Saline River northwest of Russell, Kansas. [2] A rural post office had opened near the site in October 1878 under the name Clarkson, but changed its name to Fairport in 1881. [3] The community of Fairport grew up around the mill and, by 1910, had local trade and a population of 75. [4] The post office closed in 1959. [3]
Fairport lies in the Smoky Hills region of the Great Plains on the Saline River which wraps around the east, north, and west sides of the town in a meander. [5] [6] Fairport is roughly 14 miles (22 km) northwest of Russell, the county seat. [6]
Fairport had a two year high school in connection with the common school until 1940 when Fairport High School joined Paradise High School. [7]
Paradise-Fairport Road, an unpaved east–west county road, enters Fairport from the east, turns north through the town, then turns west and exits the town, becoming Fairport-Natoma Road. [6] [8]
Russell County is a county in the U.S. state of Kansas. Its county seat and largest city is Russell. As of the 2020 census, the population was 6,691. The county was named for Avra Russell. The city of Russell was the home of former U.S. Senate Majority leader and 1996 GOP presidential nominee Bob Dole for many years.

New York State Route 31F (NY 31F) is an east–west state highway located in the vicinity of Rochester, New York, in the United States. The western terminus of the route is at an intersection with NY 96 north of the Monroe County village of Pittsford. Its eastern terminus is at a junction with NY 31 in the Wayne County hamlet of Macedon. Along the way, NY 31F serves the villages of East Rochester and Fairport and connects to Interstate 490 (I-490) in the town of Pittsford. From Fairport eastward, NY 31F roughly parallels the Erie Canal, which the route crosses over twice: once west of Fairport and again north of Macedon.
K-99 is a state highway in the U.S. state of Kansas. The highway runs 234.473 miles (377.348 km) from Oklahoma State Highway 99 (SH-99) at the Oklahoma state line near Chautauqua north to Nebraska Highway 99 (N-99) at the Nebraska state line in Summerfield. In the US state of Kansas, I-70 extends just over 424 miles (682 km) from the Colorado border near the town of Kanorado to the Missouri border in Kansas City. I-70 in Kansas contains the first segment in the country to start being paved and to be completed in the Interstate Highway System. The route passes through several of the state's principal cities in the process, including Kansas City, Topeka, and Salina. The route also passes through the cities of Lawrence, Junction City, and Abilene.
